Shana Naidu, Kirana Naidu, Janana Naidu: Watch Sunil Grover's desperate attempts to enter Rana Naidu season 2

Indian Express7 days ago

As fans gear up for season 2 of Karan Anshuman and Suparn Verma's action thriller show Rana Naidu, Sunil Grover 'auditioned' to play the lead role in the new instalment, much to the chagrin of Rana Daggubati. On Tuesday, Netflix India dropped a hilarious video 'Rana Naidu vs Shana Naidu: Who will make it to season 2?'
The video starts with Daggubati performing action stunts in typical Rana Naidu fashion, before someone abruptly calls 'Cut!' When Daggubati angrily asks, 'Who called for cut,' Grover pops up dressed exactly like Daggubati, in a white shirt, dark suit, and even sporting the same moustache and beard. He introduces himself as Shana Naidu, the 'asli hero' of season 2.
Grover keeps mimicking Daggubati, who calls him a 'low-res version.' Grover proposes to Daggubati that he'd bring more tameez (manners) to season 2 as he's the most shareef (well-behaved). When Daggubati doesn't relent, Grover presents multiple options for the season 2 lead: Haryana Naidu, Kirana (shopkeeper) Naidu, Bandana Naidu, Aana Naidu, Jana Naidu, Banana Naidu, and Fulana Naidu, but Daggubati doesn't seem pleased.
Grover then pulls out the card he saved for the last: A Deepfake message from Daggubati's uncle and co-star Venkatesh Daggubati, asking Rana to let Shana be the season 2 lead. Rana doesn't fall prey, and makes Grover 'Rawana Naidu.' At the end of the video, Grover pops up again, cross-dressed, proposing 'Janana (woman) Naidu,' before Rana makes him run away.
Grover often cross-dressed as Gutthi on The Kapil Sharma Show. Now, he appears an Engineer Chumbak on The Great Indian Kapil Show, hosted by Kapil Sharma, season 3 of which will premiere on Netflix India on June 21. Meanwhile, Rana Naidu season 2 will drop on the platform on June 13.
An official adaptation of popular American series Ray Donovan, the show brought together the real life uncle-nephew duo for the first time. It follows the life of Rana Naidu (Rana), the go-to guy for everyone in Bollywood when they have a problem, and his tense equation with estranged father Naga (Venkatesh).

In season two, Rana Naidu embarks on one last job to secure his family's future before getting out of the 'fixing' business for good, but soon finds himself entangled in conflicts with his loved ones – and the looming threat of a ruthless underworld figure from his past. Season 2 also stars Arjun Rampal, Surveen Chawla, Kriti Kharbanda, Dino Morea, Abhishek Banerjee, and Sushant Singh.

The Kapil Sharma Show fame Ali Asgar on how his kids faced bullying in school due to his cross-dressing performances; says 'mere bete ne mujhe kaha aapko kuch aur aata nahi hai kya?'

, popularly known for his comic roles in Comedy Circus, Comedy Nights with Kapil and , recently spoke about a challenging phase in his personal life when his children were subjected to bullying at school because of his cross-dressing acts on television. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He recalled a moment when his son, struggling to cope with the situation, asked him if he was capable of doing anything else. During an interview with The Lallantop, the seasoned actor also spoke about the reason of leaving The Show. Ali spoke about an important phase in his career during Comedy Circus where he first worked with Kapil Sharma. The actor shared that playing female characters in most of the episodes made him feel creatively unhappy. This pushed him to take a break from television on purpose. He said, "Before The Kapil Sharma Show happened we were doing a season of Comedy Circus which was judged by Daler Mehendi and Archana Puran Singh. We won the season and it was a great season. I learnt a lot and was working with Kapil for the first time. After that I didn't continue with Comedy Circus because while doing the season out of 26 episodes 18-19 episodes had me cross-dressing. There was a time when writers just wrote me playing female characters. By default they were like Ali will do it and other events or awards also offered me similar female characters. So out of seven days in a week, four days I was in female getup. It started bothering me. There's no doubt, I was getting work and was paid also well but there was no satisfaction. Intentionally then I took a break and trust me, I sat home for 9 months after that because I was getting the same female characters offered to play. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now I kept refusing all the offers and 9 months passed by, but then Jennie Aur Juju was offered to me and I grabbed it both hands." He further added, "Jeannie Aur Juju started off very well and after 4/5 months later Kapil offered me Comedy Nights With Kapil. They offered me to play the role of Kapil's Daadi and I straight away refused saying I don't want to do female roles. I told them my reservation but they convinced me to four-five episodes as the script was already written. They told me they will change after that and with the intention that things will change we went on floor. The show immediately went on-air and just after the first telecast the show got a bumper opening. People loved it so much that we never looked back and the character change we initially decided never came up. I was also juggling between Jeannie and Juju and Daadi became such a big hit, that I also did not pay attention." Speaking about his decision of leaving The Kapil Sharma Show, Ali said, "My character was not working and it became stagnant at one point. There was no development and after doing good work in the past I realised if I'm not enjoying the character how will I portray it. I felt it's better to leave than destroy a character which I've created it. I thought I should take a break and comeback later. I left the show with that intention. The characteristics of Daadi and Naani were similar. From dance, kiss, alcohol, everything was used. When we created Nani she was supposed to be visually challenged but there was SNP issue and we had to change. There was no development in the role and I just didn't want to work for the heck of it. Mujhe wahan rehkar sirf paise nahi kamane the. I decided to take an exit." In the same interview, Ali talked about the difficult time when his children were bullied at school because of his cross-dressing roles. He revealed, "During the Comedy Circus phase, when I was doing cross-dressing performances, my kids got bullied in school. That's when I decided to take a break and I was at home for 9 months as I kept refusing the female characters. We used to shoot four acts and they used to air Saturday Sunday and weekdays I used to perform at events same cross-dressing roles. They were young and in primary class, so other kids used to make fun of them. Tab mere bete ne mujhe kaha tha ke aapko kuch aur aata nahi hai kya? I felt before others start asking me, I better stop doing these roles. It was quite shocking for me. But God was kind and I got Jeannie Juju." ‘His silence roared…': Anand Mahindra calls ‘GOAT' Carlsen's ‘tantrum' a compliment for world champion Gukesh

In a powerful message for the Indian chess sensation, industrialist Anand Mahindra hailed Gukesh Dommaraju for his calm victory over five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen, saying the Indian Grandmaster's silent composure was louder than the Norwegian legend's visible frustration. Calling Carlsen 'GOAT', Mahindra shared a clip of the former slamming his fist into a table after suffering his first defeat by Gukesh in a classical game in Stavanger during the Norway Chess 2025 tournament. 'His silence roared louder than Carlsen's exit," Mahindra wrote in a post on X. 'Carlsen's visible frustration at the end wasn't just a tantrum — it was the greatest compliment the World Champion could receive from the GOAT. No fist pump. No smirk. Gukesh didn't need one. His silence roared louder than Carlsen's exit," he wrote. On Sunday, Carlsen had his opponent on the ropes for much of the match in the Norway Chess 2025 tournament but his composure cracked under the pressure of a ticking clock and he committed a blunder that handed India's Gukesh a decisive advantage, a Reuters report said. Carlsen slammed his fist on the table after the defeat before exchanging a quick handshake with Gukesh, apologising for his outburst and storming off. Magnus Carlsen's outburst left Gukesh shell-shocked on Sunday, although the world champion said he also sometimes loses his temper over the board. "I mean, (the win was) not the way I wanted it to be, but okay, I'll take it," Gukesh told "... I've also banged a lot of tables in my career." Carlsen hailed the reigning world champion Gukesh for his "fighting spirit" and praised him for capitalising on the opportunity during their encounter in the ongoing Norway Chess 2025. Carlsen had an upper hand over Gukesh for most of the match, but in the end, he couldn't control his nerves, and the teenager turned the tables around and went on to win the match. "I think like I remember being at that age myself. Sometimes our energy and fighting qualities is bigger than the quality of your moves. So for a long time, he was more or less blindly pushing, and then on a normal day, I won that game, and things work quite differently. The thing he does well is he really fights very well. He was there to take his chance, and he deserves credit for that, but that's the kind of chance that I really have to put away; otherwise, I have no chance," Magnus Carlsen told ANI after his win over Hikaru Nakamura on Monday. The 19-year-old world champion also became the second Indian player to beat Carlsen in the competition's history after grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. Following the win, Gukesh had jumped to third spot in the Norway Chess 2025 points table with 8.5 points, and now he is just one point behind Carlsen and American Fabiano Caruana.
