Fleetwood's defending impresses boss Pete Wild in opening day away success
Club captain Elliot Bonds sealed the win five minutes after the break, firing home a rebound.
Wild said: 'It was a proper League Two away performance. We had to be good in both boxes – that's what this league is all about. We've been in it for four years and know what it takes to win away.
'Sometimes we won't have the ball, so we need to stay solid and take our chances when they come.'
Wild praised his team's pressing and Davies' composure, adding. 'Their keeper made a few mistakes and didn't get away with them – we were on the front foot and worked on that press.'
On the second goal, he said: 'The first 15 minutes after half-time is always tough. Getting that goal when we did was very pleasing. I've been saying all week to our players that everybody has to chip in with goals.
'Last season, if games ended in the 88th minute, we'd have 17 more points. The subs used their experience well to see the game out and that ruthless edge was probably missing across pre-season when we've not scored enough goals for the chances we created.'
Barnet manager Dean Brennan had no overriding emotions leading his side into their first EFL game in seven years but was left disappointed by the manner of the defeat.
'It's just another game. I'm not caught up in the emotions or what we achieved in the past – that's history,' said Brennan.
'We lost a game I wanted us to win. We didn't hit the standards we've set, especially over the last couple of years. Our unbeaten home record is gone.
'There were some OK phases but we weren't good enough around the box. Some players went off-script and looked nervous, despite handling big games in the past.'
On Danny Collinge's ruled-out goal, he added: 'Offside or not, I haven't seen it back, a breakthrough would've been nice.
'I said yesterday the first goal would be huge, given how Fleetwood would set up. They managed the game better than us in both boxes.
'The first goal came from poor goalkeeping. We were in control, had plenty of box entries, but then gave the ball away – it was kamikaze.
'The message to the players is clear: we can't perform like that. If we keep replicating those performances, we'll lose a lot of games in this league.'

MK Dons boss Warne targets new left-back
MK Dons boss Paul Warne says the club are in the market for a new left-back after Joe Tomlinson limped off in the early stages of his side's 1-1 draw at Offord's second-half strike grabbed Warne's side a share of the spoils and maintained their unbeaten start to the League Two the former Derby County head coach confirmed the club are aware of his desire to strengthen at full-back before the transfer window shuts on 1 September."My director of football [Liam Sweeting] is waiting for me after this chat," Warne told BBC Three Counties Radio."We were looking to bring another full-back into the building anyway [before Tomlinson's injury] because we haven't got loads."It sounds like a classic but it sharpens your pencil a little bit. If this had been 1 October, it would have been a bigger issue."I'm saying all this, Joe [Tomlinson] might wake up tomorrow and feel amazing and he might be fine by next week, we don't know."But it definitely highlights the weakness in our squad."

East Kilbride hand over footage from alleged racism incident in Stranraer clash to Police Scotland
Kilby have conducted their own internal investigation and now passed information on to the authorities East Kilbride Football Club has announced they have handed over video footage to Police Scotland following Saturday's alleged racist abuse aimed at Kilby star Joao Balde. Towards the end of the League Two clash with Stranraer at K-Park, Balde - who had missed some big chances the last time the sides met in a play-off defeat for EK in 2024 - scored an overhead kick right in front of the visiting support. The Portuguese midfielder then celebrated in front of the Stranraer fans and it is alleged one supporter made a racist slur towards him. A fan was soon ejected from the stadium following a short stoppage in play, while Balde ended up being sent off for a second booking just moments later for a late tackle. Now the club has passed on all information they have to police. It is understood the League Two club have reviewed CCTV footage and match footage from their own club TV channel, as well as compiling player statements. A statement from the club today read: "East Kilbride FC can confirm the conclusion of its internal investigation into an alleged incident on Saturday against Stranraer FC. "Footage and relevant information has now been passed on to the relevant authorities and this matter will now be dealt with by Police Scotland." Kilby skipper Jack Leitch had to hold Balde back after the incident as EK players surrounded the alleged perpetrator. Leitch said at the time: "Joao repeated what was said to me and then I called the guy out on it. "The fan was denying it to me and I just stayed with Joao after it. It's just ridiculous and disgusting." Following the game, Stranraer FC posted on social media: "Stranraer Football Club takes a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of racist and discriminatory behaviour. "The club has been made aware of an allegation during today's game at K Park. We treat any such reports with the utmost seriousness and will work with East Kilbride FC and the relevant authorities to ensure the incident is investigated thoroughly." It is the second time during his spell at the club that Balde has made a racism complaint. Last season, he was subjected to racial abuse during a Challenge Cup win over Airdrie. Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

Crewe will not rest after 100% start
Crewe Alexandra defender Mickey Demetriou says it is "rewarding" to be top of the early League Two table but the club will "not rest" on the success they have had so Alex have made an excellent start to the campaign with four wins from their first four games to lead the division by two points from Grimsby Town."It's only four games in but it's nice to be there," Demetriou, 35, told BBC Radio Stoke."We could be somewhere else in the table so it's rewarding." After wins over Salford City, Accrington Stanley and Crawley Town, the Alex's latest victory came courtesy of a 4-1 hammering of previously unbeaten Fleetwood Town."We're playing well and playing some good football but we can't rest on that - we need to keep building and keep improving," Demetriou said."We conceded a penalty and didn't keep a clean sheet [against Fleetwood] - so that's something we can work on."We also could have scored a few more goals too, so if we're being critical, we just want the best."Former Kidderminster Harriers, Shrewsbury Town and Newport County centre-back Dementriou is the oldest player in the Alex he embarks on his third season with Crewe, he says the sense of togetherness at the club can take them a long way this term."Team spirit in the changing room is massive and if you haven't got that then there's no point being out on the pitch," he said."The cohesion and spirit we've got is second to none and it's something we pride ourselves on."As the oldest player in the changing room I want to make sure that happens - the most successful places I've been have been built inside that changing room. It's massive."Crewe travel to another unbeaten side - Gillingham - on Saturday.
