Called Device Priority, the upgrade will see certain devices receive boosted download speeds.
The most used devices will be given priority over the less popular tech.
Certain phones, laptops and tablets will see improved performance after the free upgrade.
Sky explained to The Express: "Whether it's wearable tech, home appliances, working from home, 4K streaming or gaming, by prioritising household devices, people can get the most out of their WiFi.
"Other devices will stay active, but the prioritised device will get the best performance."
Sky have confirmed that those with the firm's Wi-Fi Max service will get Device Priority from today at no extra cost.
The relevant settings can be found in the MySky App, switching them on will allow customers to prioritise a device in the home for up to 8 hours.
Customers will be able to use their settings to give the best download speeds to specific devices.
Laptops used for work, consoles used for gaming or TVs used for streaming can be given priority connections.
The move comes as Sky says people now have more devices connected to home Wi-Fi than ever.
Each device jostles for the best internet connection with routers trying to share priority equally.
The majority of home devices require huge amounts of data to operate.

Having too many trying to connect and download at once can slow down the whole home network.
Prioritising certain devices will allow customers to reduce clashes between devices.
Wi-Fi Max is a broadband add on service that can be purchased on top of your original Sky package.
The add on offers a range of new features including the Device Priority settings.
The cost of the add on can vary between £5 and £7.50 depending on broadband packages and available deals.
A monthly charge for Sky Wi-Fi Max will be added to your existing broadband bill if you choose to purchase the add on.

Double eyes on the prize with EZVIZ CB90 Dual Lens surveillance camera and solar panel

I've reviewed many EZVIZ cameras in the past, so much so it's got to a stage where my first ever device from the Chinese surveillance giant doesn't quite fit the bill any more. The said camera focuses down my drive onto the back door, has a fixed view (ie non pannable)and has to be taken inside every three months ago to recharge, as it's not compatible with any solar device. But time and cameras move on and, while my nigh-on decade-old device still works perfectly, its battery is probably nearing the end of life and it can now enjoy a quieter, sedate life used inside the home and hard wired, no longer battered by the harsh Yorkshire elements. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad That's because its big brother replacement and one of EZVIZ's latest behemoths in the surveillance world, the CB90, now takes pride of place on my house's side wall, solving all of my problems in one fell swoop with its two 'eyes' on the prize. The CB90 and solar panel This is a premium dual-lens battery-powered security camera designed for comprehensive home surveillance and all round protection. Featuring panoramic and whole-picture vision, it provides both wide-angle coverage and zoomed-in details. With dual rotations and co-detection smart tracking, it enhances monitoring flexibility. So now my drive is covered back door-wise by one of the camera's lenses, while the one below is trained up my drive, taking in my parked car and the street. And no more leaning out of my upstairs side window every quarter to grab the device for indoor charging, given that the included 8W solar panel is now doing the job for me. The CB90's 10,400mAh rechargeable battery, powered by the solar panel, and weatherproof design seem to promise long-lasting, eco-friendly performance. Additional features include Wi-Fi 6 support and storage options with EZVIZ CloudPlay or, if you're like me, via a microSD (up to up 512GB). Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Designed for use in outdoor areas, it is more than comparable with its hard-wired sisters without the need for any complex installation, saving both power and power-drilling time (though some Black and Decker work (other manufactuers are available) is obviously required to affix both camera and solar panel). Person and vehicle detection Connecting up is easy. For new EZVIZ users, it's simply a case of downloading the EZVIZ app from the Play/Apple store and on the home page click on the big '+' sign to add a new device. A few moments later hey presto, your camera is up and running. It's always best to get this done first, and then test site your camera in a place where it can connect to your wifi, though in my experience the outdoor battery cameras have always worked wherever sited on my semi-detached's three walls. Keep your camera handy as,like with many eco-conscious manufacturers these days, there is no paper manual included in the kit. Instead, there's a QR code to scan and download it yourself. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The camera boasts innovative design and features, including the EZVIZ AOV [Always-On -Video] technology, which gives 24/7 coverage without rapidly draining the battery and the need for constant recharging. EZVIZ CB90 Many battery cameras on the market only record very limited footage triggered by detections, as the cameras tend to operate in sleep mode to conserve energy. Many brands eliminate the option for continuous recording as it can quickly drain the battery. The CB90 however can combat any security void by embedding the EZVIZ AOV Technology in its chips. In AOV mode, the cameras wake themselves at user-defined intervals, creating time-lapse videos for motion-free periods. Users can fast-forward to relive the changes in the monitored environment, without going through large video files that take up huge storage space. It will also significantly reduce the battery consumption compared to the traditional 24/7 recording mode. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Additionally, EZVIZ cameras maintain their AI-powered person detection functionality in AOV mode, recording standard-speed video whenever a person enters the detection area. Furthermore, the AOV technology greatly extends the detection range, going beyond the limits of PIR sensors, which is commonly used in most industry-standard battery cameras. The dual lens camera means you can have two lenses trained in opposite directions For people who appear during an AOV time-lapse recording period, the cameras can pick up any activity up to 25m away, sending alerts and switching to standard-speed recording to ensure no moment is missed. The camera is equipped with a rechargeable battery with a capacity of up to 10,400 mAh enabling it to maintain a stable working condition, in any mode, for an extended period. Even in winter, the large battery ensures the camera operates up to 120 days uninterrupted. The solar panel is able to utilise two hours of instant and continuous charging by sunlight to keep a camera running non-stop for approximately 24 hours. Like any device, time will tell about its performance, but so far things are looking good... and now in two directions as well. Parents' banks could be emptied overnight in terrifying Fortnite ‘V-Bucks' raid that targets kids playing hit game
There are some settings you should change immediately NITE TERRORS Parents' banks could be emptied overnight in terrifying Fortnite 'V-Bucks' raid that targets kids playing hit game Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CHILDREN who play hit video game Fortnite are being targeted by bank-raiding cyber-crooks. Parents are being warned that the game has become a "hunting ground for scammers" looking to steal your cash – by taking aim at gamer kids. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Fortnite players are being targeted by cyber-criminals Credit: Epic Games Fortnite is one of the world's most popular video games with hundreds of millions of players around the world – many of them children. Normally scammers target adults because they're the ones with money. But Fortnite allows crooks to target more vulnerable children, as it gives them a route to parents' bank accounts, cybersecurity giant McAfee is warning. "Millions of younger gamers pack its servers every month – along with fair share of scammers who want to target them both in and out of the game," said McAfees Jasdev Dhaliwal. It's all linked to V-Bucks, which is an in-game currency for buying virtual goodies – like costumes (known as "skins") for your character. They can also be used to buy access to battle passes for special in-game rewards But these V-Bucks are bought with real money, which is good news for crooks. "That's where scammers enter the picture," Jasdev, a director at McAfee, explained. "Because wherever money changes hands online, scammers are sure to crop up. "And with Fortnite in particular, players are more than willing to pay for V-Bucks, which can turn unwary kids into targets." I'm a gamer granny & I'm hooked on Fortnite – now I've landed deal with huge global brand He continued: "Bad actors out there do their best to capitalise on this mix of customisation, status, and money with several types of scams designed to lure in young gamers. "Put plainly, the game's economy gives scammers a powerful emotional hook they can set – the drive to stand out on the battlefield is high." FORTNITE V-BUCKS SCAMS REVEALED There are three main scams to watch out for, and all of them can result in your bank account being emptied. The first is a kind of phishing scam, which involves "luring children" into clicking links to fake websites. 4 V-Bucks can be used to buy special costumes for characters Credit: Epic Games They'll circulate on social media, promising rewards and discounted V-Bucks. But these fake websites will actually just steal your credit card info, which can then be used by crooks or sold on the dark web. The second type of scam is a social engineering con. This is where a crook will pretend to be a friendly gamer pal and build up trust with your child. THE PARENTING PROBLEM Here's advice from The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach... Trying to keep kids safe online is a nightmare. There are so many devices and apps and games that it can feel almost impossible to stay savvy about all of them. And there are probably apps you don't even realise kids are using. The first step is always setting up good parental controls. Most popular apps and gadgets have very strong controls that you can use to restrict and monitor a child's online activity. You can even set time limits. But it's not enough, so don't let it lull you into a false sense of security. Kids can get around locks and limits, so they're never foolproof. As for adults, the best defence against scams targeting kids is caution. Make sure that you explain to your child how scams work, the dangers of speaking to strangers online, and the common ways crooks try to trick people. Urge them to always speak to you if they're ever asked to spend money, share info, or download any files. Pausing to double-check is always safer than taking the risk. Fortnite might just be a game – but the crime is real, and very serious. Don't leave the safety of your bank account to parental controls. Picture Credit: Sean Keach But the crooks will use this rapport to convince your child to share credit card info to get "discounted V-Bucks or items". They might also get your child to download malware – hacked apps designed to steal your info or money – with the promise that it will generate free V-Bucks. The third scam works by hijacking your child's account and then holding it to ransom. A crook will promise your child free items, upgrades or V-Bucks if they hand over their login info. They can then take over the account, steal the info on it, and then hold it to ransom. They'll demand cash for the return of the account. And it can be tempting to pay: a Fortnite account can have thousands of hours of work put into it, and may have had a lot of money spent on it too. But even if you pay up, there's no guarantee that you'll get the Fortnite account back. Instead, it's best to report the theft to Epic Games. STAYING SAFE ON FORTNITE There are lots of ways to stay safe – from account settings to just talking to your kids about scams. 4 Fortnite offers a global multiplayer experience – but you can limit who your child is able to speak to Credit: Epic Games For a start, it's worth really driving home the fact that V-Bucks cost real money. Just because it's virtual in the game doesn't mean they don't have value. Also, make sure to remind them that it's impossible to know who a person is online. Strangers reaching out of the blue aren't the same as real-life friends. "Make sure you let them know it's always okay to speak with you or another trusted adult if a 'friend' asks them for personal info or anything that has to do with money," Jasdev said. "The same goes for asking them to chat on other apps outside the game, such as WhatsApp, or to meet up in person." 4 Cyber-criminals target children on Fortnite as a way to get access to their parents' bank accounts Credit: Epic Games To get started with parental controls, you'll want to go to Log in to your child's account, go to Parental Controls in the menu, sign in with a PIN, and then you can change what you like. One of the most important settings is always requiring a PIN for any Epic Games purchase. That way, your child can't authenticate a V-Bucks purchase without your say so. SET UP TIME LIMITS FOR FORTNITE Epic Games allows you to limit the amount of time your child spends in Fortnite... You'll find it under Time Limit Controls. You can limit how much time they spend on Fortnite each day. And you can even set specific time windows for when they're allowed to play. The time limits can then apply within that window. They'll see a notification when they have 30 minutes of playtime left. And after the time runs out, they'll be locked out until the next day. This works across all consoles and devices – so they can't just switch to another machine. They can request more time, but it's up to you whether to approve or deny it. Picture Credit: Epic Games You can also lock your child down to safer virtual games in Fortnite. And you can choose to require a PIN for your child to send or accept any friend request on Epic. You can block them from voice and text chat - or limit it to friends only. And you can also set up weekly Fortnite playtime tracking reports. It's also worth remembering that the various consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Windows PCs, smartphones and tablets will all have their own parental controls too. So don't forget to go into the device settings to make sure you've got the right controls set up. The Sun has asked Epic Games for comment and will update this story with any response.

Millions of iPhone owners warned over ‘big drop' in mobile value coming in DAYS with shock fall of up to £300
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MILLIONS of iPhone owners are being warned to sell up fast, with experts predicting a shock drop in mobile values of up to £300 in just days. Apple iPhones usually hold their value, meaning you can flog your old one for a tidy sum when it's time to upgrade. Sam Wilson, boss at Gadget GoGo, has urged iPhone owners to flog their handsets now if they want top dollar for their next upgrade. 'You've got just 30 days before the value starts to tank,' he warned. 'Every year, people hang on until after Apple's big reveal – and by then it's too late. The market's flooded with old models and prices nosedive.' more on apple APPY DAYS Unlock cheaper shopping bills and holidays with genius Apple 'AI tricks' Why the shock fall? Wilson said simply announcing a new iPhone is enough to make older ones plummet in value, with Pro and Pro Max handsets losing £150–£300 in the first month after launch. 'That's cash straight out of your pocket if you wait,' he added. So if you've got an iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max and plan to flog it to fund the shiny new iPhone 17, you might want to move fast. Even older models like the iPhone 13 (2021) or iPhone 14 (2022) could bag you more cash now than in a month's time, warns Wilson. 'Even if your iPhone's a few years old, the value will take a hit the second Apple drops its new one,' he said. Rumour has it the iPhone 17 range – including Pro, Pro Max and a wafer-thin 'iPhone 17 Air' – will be unveiled on September 9, with pre-orders from September 12 and on-sale date of September 19. Apple reveals 'Safety Check' trick to instantly stop exposing your pics and location That gives you just 30 days to cash in before prices tumble. 'Get the selling ball rolling now – even if you're eyeing up an upgrade in September,' Wilson urged. 'Plenty of buyback sites let you lock in today's price and keep your handset for a few more weeks.' With Brits hanging onto their mobiles for longer as yearly upgrades lose their sparkle, flogging your iPhone now could mean pocketing far more cash than if you wait. And you don't have to splash out on a pricey iPhone 17 either – the money could go towards a refurbished or second-hand model and still leave change in your pocket. iPhone tricks to try today Here are some of the best... Apple is expected to unveil as many as four new iPhone models. We are expecting the lot to include a premium iPhone 17 Pro smartphone, an upgrade on the rumoured iPhone 17. Expert Apple blog MacRumors revealed the changes we're expecting, including a larger battery. This will reportedly be made possible thanks to a slightly thicker design. iPhone 16 models were hailed for their impressive battery life (including in our iPhone 16 review), but the iPhone 17 Pro could offer even more juice. Apple is reportedly working on a more scratch-resistant screen. Apple may be creating a new anti-reflective coating for the display that makes it tougher. So, hopefully your screen will stay pristine for longer, giving you better resale value when you're done with it. Another quirky design change is the claimed move to a rectangular camera bump. On current iPhone Pro models, there's a raised square on the top-left of its rear casing where the camera lives. But the iPhone 17 Pro could see this bump stretch right across the back of the handset. It's still expected to only feature three cameras, keeping the current triangle layout. It's rumoured that we'll see an upgraded 24-megapixel selfie camera (up from the current 12 megapixels). That's in addition to the reported 48-megapixel telephoto camera on the back, which would be an increase from the 12-megapixel zoom lens on the iPhone 16 Pro. Other rumoured tweaks include a new aluminium frame (swapping away from titanium), an upgrade to 12GB of RAM, better cooling, a more powerful Apple A19 Pro processor, and an Apple-built Wi-Fi 7 chip for connecting to the internet. 4 Apple is expected to release the new iPhone 17 models in September Credit: Apple
