Netflix's 2022 film, The Adam Project, is a heartwarming blend of sci-fi and action comedy, featuring Ryan Reynolds in the lead role, supported by an ensemble cast of Hollywood heavyweights.
The movie is helmed by Shawn Levy, a long-time friend and collaborator of Reynolds, with T. S. Nowlin, Jonathan Tropper, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett credited as writers.
Work on The Adam Project initially kicked off back in 2012. Tom Cruise was reportedly attached to the project at that time, but the film languished in development limbo until Netflix stepped in, acquiring its distribution rights.
Set in a dystopian 2050, this Netflix original casts Reynolds as Adam Reed, a fighter pilot who swipes a time jet to journey back to 2018, aiming to save his wife Laura (portrayed by Zoe Saldaña). Laura's assassination was orchestrated by Sorian (Catherine Keener), who seeks to control time travel, reports the Daily Record.

However, Adam's mission goes awry, resulting in him crash-landing in 2022 and encountering his 12 year old self (Walker Scobell).
In 2022, young Adam grapples with school bullies and has grown distant from his mother Ellie (Jennifer Garner), deeply affected by the loss of his father, Louis Reed (Mark Ruffalo), the previous year.
On 9 March 2022, Ryan Reynolds' film had an exclusive one-night-only showing in cinemas, swiftly followed by its debut on the streaming platform two days later, on 11 March. 'The Adam Project' quickly became a hit for Netflix, securing the position as the third most-watched film on the service worldwide at that time, with 157.6 million views in its initial 28 days.
Critical responses to the film were varied, with comments including: "I enjoyed The Adam Project, its past, present, and future permutations an exciting joyride fit for the whole family."
Meanwhile, another critic was less enthusiastic, saying: "It's an assemblage of ideas from other popular films that just hangs there with little cohesion. It's like watching a movie that hasn't been made yet."

One reviewer described it as "a movie with so many octopus ambitions is unlikely to pull off any of them, and that's the bind The Adam Project finds itself in."
Another said: "Funny, fast-paced and surprisingly tender."
Audience reactions were also split, with some viewers thoroughly enjoying the film while others were not as taken with Ryan Reynolds' latest venture.
One viewer gave 'The Adam Project' a solid middle-ground review, stating: "It's basically what you'd expect from a time travel movie. Really enjoy sci-fi stuff, and this was another solid addition. Nothing crazy, but nothing really against it. Thought it was a really good cast as well. Ryan Reynolds continues to shine in whatever role he is in. Had a good amount of laughs. Also thought it was visually well done. Overall, not bad!".
Conversely, another viewer was less impressed, commenting: "The type of movie that you'll forget 5min after you watch it. Full of clichés and the "science" part is beyond laughable."
Meanwhile, an enthusiastic fan shared their love for the film: "One of my favourite movies. Literally anything you will want from a movie, it's funny, it's exciting, it's emotional, it's interesting, it has great character and actors, just absolutely amazing, if you like action, fantasy, sci-fi, time travel - YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE! !".

Actor kicked off Edinburgh Jet2 flight and given lifetime ban over 'Pringles row'
The actor says he was "trying to defend himself" after claims he was "aggressive and drunk". An actor has hit out at Jet2 after being thrown off an Edinburgh flight and issued with a lifetime ban following a " row over Pringles". Mustafa Denizkan, also known as Elunico Hazaver, claims he was unfairly taken off flight LS721. The aircraft left Edinburgh Airport for Larnaca in Cyprus on May 10 at around 3pm, before it was diverted to Thessaloniki in Greece. Denizkan claims he was taken off the flight after an "argument between himself, a passenger and the cabin crew". However, he says that reports of him being "aggressive, drunk and dangerous" are incorrect, reports Edinburgh Live. The actor is known for starring in Turkish drama Gönül İşleri, and 2002 short film Yaprak. Taking to Instagram to "clarify", Denizkan said: "I am currently on medication for a number of medical conditions. "When the cabin crew started serving the passengers, I waited until the cabin crew trolley was in my row. When the member of the cabin crew came in the row I was, I waited until she asked me what I wanted to order and she continued pushing the trolley through the back without asking me anything. "After 10 minutes I pressed the button. A member of the cabin crew came and asked me what I wanted. "She was a bit rude. I told her I wanted water and Pringles. She told me to wait for my turn. I said okay. I waited for another 10 minutes and pressed the button again. The same person came and told me to wait again. I waited for another 10 minutes and pressed the button again." Denizkan claims he was asked to stop pushing the button. He then admitted raising his voice to the cabin crew, and was allegedly told he wouldn't be served. He continued: "Another passenger got involved and started to shout at me. The guy who shouted at me grabbed my necklaces and ripped them off and I tried to defend myself by pushing him away. That's all! "I did not punch anyone, I was not drunk. I did not abuse anyone." At the time of the incident, another passenger uploaded footage to TikTok of the incident. The clip, which was posted by @jj_bowe, said: "Jet2holidays: Where fists fly before the plane does." She accompanied the post by saying: "Shoutout to the guy who thought assaulting crew mid-air was a vibe - thanks for the five hour delay and the unexpected Greek mini-break, legend." Jet2 has been approached for comment. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. BBC Strictly Come Dancing 'signs up' Gladiators star after show controversy
BBC Strictly Come Dancing 'signs up' Gladiators star after show controversy Strictly Come Dancing bosses are said to be 'in talks' with a Gladiators star for the 2025 series Gladiators' Nitro, also known as Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, is set to join the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing. The 36-year-old has previously graced the BBC show's dance floor. In the 2024 Christmas special, he partnered with professional dancer Nancy Xu, 33, and their performance earned them one of the highest scores of the night—an impressive 37 points for their Street/Commercial routine. The former Olympic sprinter caught the attention of the show's bosses, who are keen to have him on board for a full season of the popular dance competition, now in its 23rd year. It's hoped that he can juggle his commitments with Gladiators, which typically films over the summer months. Strictly usually kicks off in August, but contestants are confirmed weeks prior and start training immediately to build their confidence before the live shows commence. They were in talks last year but couldn't get the timings to marry up with his work," reports the Mirror, whih has reached out to the BBC and Harry's representatives for comment.. Article continues below The source added: "He was a huge hit at Christmas prancing around in spandex and showing off his biceps. Producers were also impressed with his dancing." An insider also suggested that the addition of Nitro could draw a fresh audience to Strictly, as producers aim to replicate the family-friendly success of Gladiators. Strictly has faced its share of controversy and criticism in recent years, with allegations of misconduct by professional dancers and celebrity participants behaving inappropriately. Last year, Go Compare singer Wynne Evans caused a stir when he was seen touching dancer Katya Jones inappropriately. Further scandal ensued during the 2025 Strictly Live Tour when off-colour remarks made by Evans behind the scenes were leaked. Jamie Borthwick, another participant from the 2024 series, found himself embroiled in controversy this month following revelations that he used a derogatory term to describe the residents of Blackpool during the show's filming there. The previous year, Strictly was overshadowed by accusations from actress Amanda Abbington who claimed she was mistreated by professional dancer Giovanni Pernice. A BBC investigation was launched while Giovanni left the show, maintaining his innocence throughout. Harry appeared in the 2024 Christmas special where he danced with Nancy Hu (Image: BBC Studios/Guy Levy ) In another incident, professional dancer Graziano Di Prima confessed to accidentally kicking his celebrity partner Zara McDermott during rehearsals, leading to his departure from the show. Strictly Come Dancing is set to grace our screens once again this year, with the familiar judging panel of Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel Horwood all confirmed to return. There's speculation that this season could be Craig's last on the show, as he previously declared he would leave after reaching 60. Craig celebrated his 60th birthday this year, leading some viewers to worry that he might bow out after the forthcoming series. Yet, it seems he may have had a change of heart regarding his departure. Article continues below Speaking to The Mirror, he remarked: "I have no intention of quitting because it's a fantastic Saturday job that I intend to do into my 80s, as long as I'm still compos mentis, darling! and if I haven't been cancelled before then!". Nicola Peltz pays sweet tribute to her dad and snubs father-in-law David Beckham
Nicola failed to mention her father-in-law in her social media post celebrating Father's Day. Nicola Peltz posted a sweet Father's Day tribute to her dad Nelson Peltz on Instagram, but failed to mention her father-in-law David Beckham. This comes as another blow to David and Victoria Beckham amid their ongoing fallout with their eldest son Brooklyn Beckham and his wife. Nicola wed David and Victoria's firstborn child back in 2022 and once appeared to be rather close with the famous family. However, after their lavish wedding things started to go downhill and things really came to a head when Nicola and Brooklyn, 26, snubbed David's 50th birthday celebrations, according to The Mirror. At the time, the couple both didn't publicly acknowledge the footballing icon's milestone birthday and they snubbed all of his celebrations despite being in London and ever since Brooklyn has continued to prove his loyalties to his wife as he failed to post anything when David was awarded a knighthood from King Charles earlier in the week. Now, as today is Father's Day, Nicola shared a gushing tribute to her own dad on Instagram but not her father-in-law. She shared a series of photos throughout the years with her dad Nelson alongside a touching caption. Nicola wrote: "Happy Father's Day to the greatest dad in the world I am so lucky to be your daughter I love you more than you will ever know. Thank you for always being my constant support I love you beyond words. Happy Father's Day dad." Brooklyn's younger brothers Romeo and Cruz shared sweet posts for David online. Cruz shared a snap of him chilling in the sun with his sports star dad and captioned the post saying: " Happy Father's Day, I love you x." Meanwhile, Romeo posted two pictures of him and his father. One was of him as a child with David and he captioned it simply saying: "love you." Wife Victoria also shared a Father's Day post to David, she penned: " Happy Father's Day Sir @DavidBeckham!!! We love you so much." In a video clip of David and their children, she penned: "Happy Father's Day to the best daddy there is! You always lead with love and our four beautiful children are a reflection of that. We all love you so much." David shared his own public message to his children as he appeared to hint at the feud. He shared: "My most important & favourite job in life is being a dad... I'm so proud of all of you and like daddy ( sorry boys ) tells you every single day I will always be here for you no matter what... "Mummy thank you for doing the most important part and making me a father there is no greater gift in life than making me a dad... Happy Father's Day... I love you kiddies more than you could imagine." Brooklyn did not share a post for David on his social media. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
