Perodua to produce EV by October

SERDANG: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) aims to finalise production of electric vehicles (EVs) by October, with plans to market them by the end of this year.
President and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the EVs would be over 30% locally assembled at its new factory in Rawang, Selangor with a price of below RM80,000 each.
'But after a few months of production, with the localisation of critical components, we hope to increase the local assembly content to over 60%,' he told a press conference after unveiling the EV prototype during the Malaysian Autoshow 2025 here yesterday.
Zainal Abidin said the EVs, with an expected monthly production of 500 units, would be targeted at young buyers and small families who would benefit from an affordable car.
He also stressed that the model's long-term value was a key priority, particularly regarding battery quality and resale price.
'If people buy an EV but are not confident about its battery quality, the car's value will drop after eight years.
'So, we are ensuring that even after eight or nine years, the car will still retain its value because we control the battery quality. You can always get a new battery from us,' he said. — Bernama

Honda Malaysia recalls 87,490 vehicles over fuel pump issue
KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia today announced a product recall involving 87,490 units of Honda vehicles to replace their fuel pump as a precautionary measure. The affected models include Accord (year of model: 2013 - 2017), BR-V (2017 - 2018), City (2014 - 2019), City (Hybrid) (2018, 2019), Civic (2017, 2018), CR-V (2018 - 2020), HR-V (2015 - 2018), Jazz (2015 - 2020), Jazz (Hybrid) (2018) and Odyssey (2017 - 2019). "The fuel pump's impeller may swell after prolonged fuel immersion, potentially preventing the vehicle from starting or causing the engine to stall while driving," the company said in a statement. A total of 84,073 units of the Jazz, City, Civic, Accord, BR-V, HR-V, CR-V and Odyssey are involved. Meanwhile, a total of 3,417 units of the Civic and CR-V are affected by an issue with the high-pressure fuel pump, which may crack due to prolonged use and excessive stress, potentially leading to a fuel leak or giving rise to a fuel odour while driving or idling. The affected models involved in the product recall for high-pressure fuel pumps were Civic (2023, 2024) and CR-V (2024). Honda said all affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product recall. Customers can also check if their vehicle is affected in the recall via the Honda Touch application. Honda Malaysia urges all affected customers to contact any Honda authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receipt of the notification to replace the fuel pump, subject to parts availability. "The replacement of the affected fuel pump and high-pressure fuel pump is free of charge, and all costs related to this replacement activity will be borne by Honda Malaysia. RM1,000 immediate aid for 10 UPSI students in ICU
PUTRAJAYA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will provide RM1,000 each in immediate aid to 10 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) warded in the intensive care units of two hospitals in Perak. Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the donations are through Yayasan Kebajikan Negara under the "Skim Pemberian Ehsan Kepada Keluarga Mangsa". She said her deputy, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, will visit the affected students on her behalf. "Eight students are being treated at Taiping Hospital, while two are in Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh," she told reporters after officiating the Women Seminar 2025 "EmpowerHER: Engage Energise Elevate", here today. Nancy said the ministry will also look into aid and support for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. "I think the families need time to grieve as well. It is not just about giving money. What they need most right now is emotional support," she said, adding that the ministry is ready to offer the services of professional counsellors. "But we cannot simply show up immediately, people are still devastated," she said. The tragic crash occurred between 12.30am and 1am yesterday on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, when a chartered bus carrying UPSI students from Jertih to Tanjung Malim overturned after colliding with a Perodua Alza. The accident claimed the lives of 15 students and left 33 others injured, including the bus driver, his assistant, and the Alza's driver and three passengers.
