Telangana: Woxsen University, IBM India sign MoU across business & technology disciplines
Hyderabad, June 5 (UNI) Woxsen University has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IBM India Private Limited, forming an academic-industry partnership aimed at technology education across business and technology disciplines. The five-year collaboration will enhance curriculum, foster hands-on industry training, and offer globally recognized IBM certifications, Hyderabad based University said in a release here on Thursday. The collaboration spans Woxsen's School of Business and School of Technology, directly benefiting students enrolled in MBA (Business Analytics) and BBA (Data Science & Artificial Intelligence), while extending its impact to technology students across the university. Students from both schools will gain exposure to IBM's enterprise tools used by Fortune 500 companies. Walmart's Flipkart secures approval for direct lending in India
Walmart's Flipkart has secured a lending licence from the Indian central bank and banking regulator, enabling it to offer loans directly to customers and sellers on its platform, a spokesperson for the company confirmed after Reuters reported the development citing documents and a source. This is the first time the Reserve Bank of India has granted a large e-commerce player in India a non-bank finance company (NBFC) licence, allowing it to lend but not take deposits. Most e-commerce platforms currently offer loans in tie-ups with banks and NBFCs, but a lending licence will enable Flipkart, India's largest e-commerce firm, to lend directly, a more lucrative model for the group. The central bank issued its certificate of registration, a document that officially recognises a company as an NBFC, to Flipkart Finance Private Limited on March 13. Reuters has reviewed a copy of both the certificate of registration and the approval letter also dated March 13. The approval has not been previously reported. Flipkart, in which U.S. retail behemoth Walmart holds a more than 80% stake, applied for the licence in 2022, according to the central bank's approval letter. The Reserve Bank of India did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comments. The e-commerce giant may commence its lending operation "in a few months", according to a source aware of the matter who declined to be identified as the talks are private. A final decision on the launch will be subject to the completion of various internal processes such as the appointment of key management personnel and board members and the finalisation of business plans, the source said. Flipkart plans to lend directly to its customers on its popular e-commerce platform and through its fintech app the source said. It may also offer financing to sellers on the platform, they added. At present, the e-commerce giant offers personal loans to customers through tie-ups with lenders such as Axis Bank , IDFC Bank and Credit Saison. Flipkart, last valued at $37 billion in 2024 when it raised $1 billion in a funding round led by Walmart, is shifting its holding company from Singapore to India. Walmart also aims to take the 17-year-old company public. Walmart bought a controlling stake in Flipkart in 2018, which also gave it ownership of PhonePe, a fintech firm also preparing for an IPO. Earlier this year Flipkart's rival Amazon acquired a Bengaluru-based non-bank lender Axio, but the deal is yet to be cleared by the central bank.

Infosys to give cash sops to employees taking part in interviews to help hiring
India's second largest software major Infosys has introduced a cash reward policy for senior employees who conduct interviews for lateral hiring, in what is seen as a move to boost employee morale. An employee will earn 700 points (Rs 700) per interview. Employees can claim the incentive for interviews in the past five months as the programme takes effect retrospectively from January 1, sources told ET. This is the first time Infosys has embarked on such an incentive-led programme, a senior employee said. The Bengaluru-headquartered IT major's policy, however, limits the cash incentive for hirings within India. This is an acknowledgement of employee support for the interview process as the IT sector focuses on lateral recruitment over slowing campus hiring. According to an employee, this move is to encourage team managers and mid-level leaders to get external talent and push employees to reach out to more quality candidates. At Infosys, tech professionals such as track leads, architects and project managers across job level 5 and 6 (JL5 & JL6) routinely interview candidates shortlisted by the talent acquisition team for lateral hiring over 2-3 rounds before the candidate progresses to the HR round. The company, however, has excluded employees in the HR and talent acquisition teams, sub-contractors and titleholders (senior leadership) from the reward programme. Employees cannot claim the incentive if an interview is cancelled or a candidate does not show up. Infosys's reward programme comes at a time when the $280 billion software services sector is experiencing a shortage of experienced people with specialised skills, especially in AI, amid growth pangs due to weakening global demand and trade wars in their key growth markets. The Salil Parekh-led firm also conducts weekend recruitment drives in which many candidates participate. At such events, an employee could participate in 10-15 interviews a day assessing a candidate's competence in software skills such as Python, Java, Machine Learning, DevOps, etc. The cash reward encourages to interview more candidates. A senior Infosys executive said the scheme was aimed at pacifying a section of employees disappointed with pay hikes of 5-8% for FY24 and the subsequent lower performance bonus payout for the March quarter. 'Earlier, we did not get any such cash incentive for interviews done. In fact, the company gave us compensatory leaves for the interviews conducted at the campus over the weekends,' the employee said. While not many firms have such a policy, some large and mid-sized technology companies such as Honeywell , Accenture and Sonata Software are known to give both cash and non-cash incentives to encourage employees to be part of interview panels and be invested to attract best talent from the pool of available candidates within the industry. Honeywell India vice president (HR) Arppna Mehra said they reward employees by way of a training outside of his or her domain area, helping them acquire leadership skills.
