Suspended Bihar ASI held with AK-47, arms cache; linked to illegal arms trade, army recruitment racket
PATNA: Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police on Friday arrested suspended assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Saroj Singh and four of his associates, recovering a huge cache of sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle, Insas rifle, carbine, and a large number of live cartridges from his ancestral house in Samastipur district.+
Acting on a complaint lodged by Prince Singh, mukhiya (panchayat head) of Raspur Patasiya panchayat, and Navin Singh, the STF at the state police headquarters, in coordination with district police, conducted a raid at Sultanpur village under Mohiuddin Nagar police station limits early Friday.
According to police sources, Saroj Singh and his associates opened fire at the police when they attempted to enter his residential premises. The police retaliated and fired in self-defence. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The police launched a search operation after Saroj Singh and his accomplices surrendered. A press statement issued by the state police headquarters revealed the seizure of one AK-47 assault rifle, one Insas rifle, one carbine, one .306 bore rifle, one double-barrel gun, and a large quantity of live cartridges.
Documents related to several plots of land were also recovered from the premises. Additionally, official seals of various government departments were found.
Raids were also carried out at Saroj Singh's rented accommodation at Saguna Mor and at the office of a private real estate company located in Rupaspur, Patna. During the search, land deal documents worth Rs 2 crore were seized.

New Delhi: Two Maoists were reportedly neutralised on Saturday in the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in Bijapur's Indravati National Park, which has entered its third day, with security forces intensifying their efforts against insurgents in the dense forest region. His elimination is considered a major success in the ongoing crackdown against Maoist insurgency. Mailarapu Adelu, known by his aliases Bhaskar, Jangu Dada, and Mahesh, was a prominent figure within the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation. Holding a pivotal role in the Telangana State Committee, he also served as the secretary of the Mancherial–Kumuram Bheem-Asifabad (MKB) divisional committee, an area of strategic importance for Maoist activities in the region. Bhaskar (53) hailed from Pochera village in Boath mandal, located in Telangana's Adilabad district. His influence extended beyond regional operations, as he was instrumental in shaping the Maoist movement's outreach and organisational structure within Telangana. The operation, which has seen fierce exchanges of gunfire, remains active, with security forces maintaining their positions in the area. Reports indicate that the encounter has been ongoing since Friday night, with intermittent firing from both sides. Meanwhile, in Dantewada, seven Maoists, including two with bounties on their heads, have surrendered to authorities. Among them are Juglu alias Sundum Kowasi and Dasha alias Burku Podiyam, each carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. Their surrender is seen as a positive development in the broader effort to dismantle Naxal influence in the region. The battle in Bijapur's Indravati National Park continues, with security forces determined to root out remaining insurgents. Gangster Shivam Andekar arrested for extorting money from fish vendor in Pune
The Pune city police on Friday arrested gangster Shivam Udaykant Andekar, 29, the leader of the notorious Andekar gang, and his aide for allegedly extorting money from a fish vendor. The police are now on the lookout for his other accomplices. Shivam was arrested after an FIR in the case was lodged at the Faraskhana police station on Friday following a complaint by a 38-year-old man who runs a fish stall in the Nana Peth market area. According to a press release issued by Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme of the Faraskhana police station on Saturday, since 2016, Shivam had allegedly been extorting Rs 50,000 per month from the complainant through his gang member Akash Pardeshi, 28, by threatening to kill him and shut his business. Pardeshi, who is from Lohiya Nagar, has also been arrested. Till April 2025, the accused allegedly extorted about Rs 48 lakh from the complainant, in cash and through online transactions, the police said. But from May, due to financial constraints, the complainant refused to pay the extortion money. According to the police, Shivam, a resident of Doke Talim area in Nana Peth, and his aides allegedly threatened to kill the complainant and ransacked his fish stall. The accused allegedly threw away material worth Rs 90,000 from the complainant's fish stall, the police said. The complainant said he requested Shivam to return his material and allow him to continue his business, but Shivam allegedly refused and insulted the complainant and his wife. After receiving the complaint, the police lodged an extortion case against Shivam and his five aides. Further investigation is on, Bhasme said. Police sources said that Shivam's father, Udaykant, was a former corporator who passed away in 2020. Shivam's uncle, Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, is known to be the key leader of the dreaded Andekar gang and was booked in multiple serious offences like murder and attempt to murder since 1995. Suryakant's son and former corporator, Vanraj Andekar, was shot dead on September 1 last year near his residence in the Nana Peth area.

NEET 2020 Fraud: AIIMS Student Nabbed In Dummy Candidates Scam Just Before Graduation
Last Updated: AIIMS Jodhpur student Sachin Gora was arrested for using a dummy candidate in the NEET-UG 2020 exam. Just months before completing his MBBS from AIIMS Jodhpur, a student was arrested on Friday for allegedly using a dummy candidate to appear in the NEET-UG 2020 examination, as reported by PTI. According to Rajasthan Police, the student, Sachin Gora, and another doctor have been arrested in the case, while a third doctor, currently serving as a health officer in Ghatwa, Nagaur, has been detained. Jaipur Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar stated that a complaint from the National Testing Agency (NTA), New Delhi, revealed that Sachin, who scored 667 marks, never appeared for the exam himself. Instead, a dummy candidate wrote the test on his behalf, reported PTI. The investigation found that Dr Ajit Gora's photo was used on Sachin's admit card. Ajit, who completed his MBBS from Bharatpur Medical College, is currently undergoing a one-year internship. Sachin is now in the final year of his MBBS course at AIIMS Jodhpur. Officials say the fraud was facilitated by Dr Subhash Saini, the health officer in Ghatwa, who allegedly took a payment to arrange the impersonation. A deal of Rs 60 lakh was reportedly fixed to clear the entrance exam using the dummy candidate. Both Sachin and Ajit have been arrested, while Saini has been detained for questioning. During interrogation, police also discovered that in 2013, Saini had accepted Rs 65 lakh to help another individual pass the NEET-PG exam. At the time, six people were arrested in connection with that case. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday granted permission to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to conduct the NEET-PG 2025 exam on August 3, stating it was convinced that the reasons provided by the board for selecting the date were genuine. This decision follows the court's earlier order on May 30, which barred the exam from being held in two shifts and directed that it be conducted in a single shift only.
