Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attend Game 4 of Stanley Cup Final between Panthers and Oilers

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Pop superstar Taylor Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce were among the celebrities that flocked to Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday to watch Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers.
Kelce, a Super Bowl-winning tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is a known hockey fan along with his brother Jason Kelce. And ever since Swift and Kelce began their high-profile romance in 2023, the 14-time Grammy Award winning singer has been known to pop in on big sporting events — including the last two Super Bowls — and cause an excited frenzy for fans.
There were rumblings ahead of Thursday's game that the couple might attend the final.
A helicopter landed near Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, ahead of the game. The VIP entrance to the area was also closed off and the media elevator was not available to be used for a period of time before pregame warmups began.
Swift recently announced that she regained control over her entire body of work. In a lengthy note posted to her official website, Swift said that all the music she's ever made now belongs to her after she has purchased her catalog of recordings — originally released through Big Machine Records — from their most recent owner, the private equity firm Shamrock Capital.
Over the last few years, Swift has been rerecording and releasing her early albums in an attempt to regain control of her music.
Other celebs in attendance included former Miami Dolphins star defensive end Jason Taylor, who banged the drum before the game. Miami Heat captain Bam Adebayo was joined by former Heat captain Udonis Haslem on the drum on Monday.
The defending champion Panthers led the best-of-seven series 2-1 heading into Thursday's game.

Mexican FA accused of silencing clubs seeking promotion reinstatement

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Two Mexican clubs seeking to reinstate promotion and relegation say the Mexican Football Association is trying to silence and punish them after they appealed to sport's highest court. Last month, 10 of the 15 clubs in Mexico's second division filed the appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Since then, four of them have opted out leaving six in it: Leones Negros, Venados FC, Atlético Morelia, Cancún FC, Club Atlético La Paz and Mineros. The FMF halted promotion in 2019 and agreed with the second division teams to reinstate it in 2026, but there are no current plans to do it and that is why the clubs went to CAS. 'We can't ascend to the first division because the league is kidnapped,' Giovanni Solazzi, the Cancún FC vice president said this week. 'If there is sporting justice, promotion must return.' Alberto Castellanos, the Leones Negros president, also criticized the federation for what he called 'monopolistic practices.' On Wednesday, the federation wrote to Solazzi and Castellanos informing them they were being investigated because their statements may have breached the code of ethics. The clubs could be fined up to 450,000 pesos (about $23,000), stated the letter, seen by the Associated Press. 'The FMF is clearly pursuing an intimidatory process intended to silence and punish the clubs for appealing to CAS,' said Eduardo Carlezzo, the owner of the legal firm representing the clubs in the appeal. The owners of the 18 top flight teams voted to halt promotion and relegation for six seasons, arguing it would help to consolidate the second-division clubs. As a payoff, the second tier clubs share an $8 million pot. Since the CAS appeal, the second division teams claim they have not received any payments. 'The federation suspended the financial compensation the day after the appeal was launched and is now threatening disciplinary sanction over comment,' Carlezzo said. 'These actions constitute a serious and blatant infringement of the freedom of expression and the access to justice guaranteed by the Mexican constitution.' ___ AP soccer:

Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch showed 'unmatched composure' as young player

Article content Knoblauch, the pride of Imperial, Sask., would become head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, who are battling in the Stanley Cup championship final against the Florida Panthers. But back in the mid-1990s, Knoblauch was a young player on the North Stars in what was then the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League and is now known as the Saskatchewan U18 Male AAA Hockey League. Knoblauch played two seasons with the Stars, helping the team win a Mac's Invitational championship in 1995 at Calgary. 'That goes way back,' Nilson said this week from his hometown in Warman. 'He had something special about him. He's very intelligent, quiet-but-he-knows-what-he's-doing kind of kid. You know what I mean? He's not a kid anymore, but a grown adult, but I still call him a kid. 'I can remember him coming in. He actually belonged to Portland (Winterhawks, of the Western Hockey League). Portland called and said, 'I've got two guys from Saskatchewan who would like to play AAA' and I said 'okay, what about them?' I was told 'one is 6-foot-5 and the other 6-foot-2.' I said, 'Send them both.' I couldn't care who they were. That was about it.'

Belmont Stakes to be run at Saratoga Race Course again in 2026, a third time in a row

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The Belmont Stakes is set to be run at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York for a third consecutive year in 2026. Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York Racing Association announced Friday that it will be the third and last time the Triple Crown finale is held there before returning to Belmont Park on Long Island in 2027. 'Saratoga has served our fans and stakeholders extremely well as the temporary home of the Belmont Stakes during the construction of a new Belmont Park on Long Island,' NYRA president and CEO David O'Rourke said. 'Belmont Park will always be the home of the Belmont Stakes and we look forward to its return to the newly reimagined Belmont in 2027.' It was confirmation of an expected extension of the race's stay at Saratoga while Belmont Park undergoes nearly a half-billion dollar renovation project. It is on track to reopen in September 2026, with the Breeders' Cup returning to New York at Belmont Park in the fall of 2027. The Belmont will again be run at 1 1/4 miles instead of its traditional 1-1/2 mile distance that has been known as the 'test of the champion.' That has been the case the past two years, as well, because of the configuration of the main dirt track. ___ AP horse racing:
