LIV Golf takes another swing at world ranking points
LIV Golf's request two years ago was unanimously rejected by OWGR due to concerns about the unconventional 54-hole format with no cuts while the events featured the same 48 players all season.
They formally withdrew an application to have players receive world ranking points from its tournaments in March last year but OWGR said they received a new application on June 30 and had commenced a review process.
"The OWGR Board is committed to a thorough evaluation process of all applications," Trevor Immelman, the chairman of the OWGR board of directors, said in a statement on Friday.
"LIV's application will be reviewed in accordance with OWGR's criteria to ensure fairness, integrity and consistency."
The stakes are high for LIV's star-studded roster as world rankings play a key role in determining entry into golf's four majors.
The lack of ranking points has seen LIV Golf players tumble down the rankings, with former world number one Dustin Johnson now ranked number 957 in the OWGR.
"We appreciate the interest of LIV Golf – and all Tours – in contributing to the global landscape of men's professional golf through OWGR," Immelman added.
"Further updates will be provided as the review progresses."

Matt Fitzpatrick is a 20/1 favourite with Sky Bet to win the Wyndham Championship starting today
The PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship is an open field according to Sky Bet - with the shortest-priced player in the market a healthy 20/1. It is Matt Fitzpatrick who enters as the favourite to win - as the Englishman looks to secure the third PGA Tour victory of his career. Fitzpatrick enters this weekend's tournament off the back of a strong performance at The Open Championship in Northern Ireland a fortnight ago - with the 30-year-old finishing tied for fourth at 11-under. It is Ben Griffin who is the second best-backed in the market at 22/1, while Keegan Bradley and Aaron Rai are next at 25/1 respectively. Griffin has had a breakout year in 2025 - winning both the Zurich Classic and Charles Schwab Challenge. Meanwhile, Bradley reigned supreme at the Travelers Championship in June, while Rai won the Wyndham Championship in 2024. In addition to the Outright Winner market, Sky Bet are offering three Price Boosts for this tournament. They require Fitzpatrick and Robert MacIntyre to both finish top 20 including ties, Rai to finish top ten including ties, and Griffin or Bradley to win outright. The odds for those three boosts have been enhanced to 5/1, 11/4 and 14/1 respectively. There is no jeopardy in Chelsea's confetti spending when Saudi friends will happily fork out for their misfits, writes IAN HERBERT
There's nothing quite like some vast Saudi generosity to send you skipping around a potential breach of spending rules and into the transfer market. Chelsea really will be laughing all the way to the bank, having cashed a mighty £43.7million for the Portuguese forward Joao Felix, a bang-average player now heading to Al Nassr.

Rickie Fowler climbing FedExCup points list, but he seeks more
July 31 - While professional golf's four majors have come and gone, there's still lots of money and prestige to be earned over the next month. The PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship, which begins Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., is the final tournament before the $100 million FedExCup Playoffs. That means it's the final chance for golfers to collect FedExCup points and claim one of the 70 invites to next week's $20 million FedEx St. Jude Championship. Rickie Fowler enters Thursday's play ranked No. 52 on the points list, so he's guaranteed a chance to play in Memphis. But only the top 50 players earn a shot to play the following week in the BMW Championship, and only the top 30 get to compete for $60 million at the Tour Championship. So there's plenty of motivation to excel at Sedgefield. "Yeah, I definitely believe there's some good golf coming up (for me) and it wouldn't be a bad thing if it happened to be in the next few weeks," Fowler said Wednesday. The 36-year-old Fowler has been steadily climbing the points list since he shared 15th place at the Truist Classic in mid-May. He shared 16th place at the Charles Schwab Challenge, tied for seventh at the Memorial, split 18th at the John Deere and snagged a share of 14th at the Open Championship with a final-round 65. What does the California native credit for his recent surge? As happens with so many athletes, he hasn't been bothered as much by injuries of late. "Just working on getting the body feeling better," he said. "(I've) struggled with a few things. Yeah, just been in a better spot and been able to go out and play as much pain-free as we can. But that's probably been one of the biggest thing(s), just allow myself to go play. "Definitely nice to see some trending in the right direction, some good solid finishes. Yeah, looking forward to hopefully putting together a good little run and finish up the season." Fowler finished 101st in last year's FedExCup points standings and did not get to play in either the Masters or the U.S. Open this year, so getting back into the top 70 is a notable achievement. But finishing among the top 50 would be that much more impressive because, in addition to the current FedExCup opportunities, it would unlock invitations to all eight signature events next year. Each event featured a $20 million purse this year. --Field Level Media
