DRI seizes 119 kg Alprazolam worth Rs 24 cr in Andhra, arrests 8
New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) DRI officers have seized 119.4 kg of Alprazolam drug worth Rs 24 crore from a clandestine manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh and arrested eight persons, according to an official statement.
The officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Kakinada executed an operation resulting in the seizure of 119.4 kg of Alprazolam in lumpy form, valued at approximately Rs 23.88 crore in the illicit market, along with 87.8 kg in-process material.
The DRI officials also apprehended eight persons involved in illegal manufacturing and distribution of Alprazolam, including the mastermind, chemists, financiers and the buyers at the same place, the statement said.
Additionally, 3,600 litres in liquid form and 311.6 kg in solid form of illegally procured raw materials, equipment (two reactors, one centrifuge and one drier) used for manufacturing Alprazolam – a psychotropic substance – and a few incriminating documents were seized to aid further investigation.
Further, the statement said the investigation revealed that most of the arrested individuals had prior involvement in cases related to the clandestine manufacture of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and other criminal activities (murder, cyber-crimes and economic offences).
Initial interrogation revealed that these individuals conspired to undertake this illegal activity, having formed their network during their time in jail. Alprazolam was intended for transport to Telangana for adulterating Toddy, the statement added. PTI JD SHW

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected former Amtek Group chairman Arvind Dham petition seeking regular bail in connection with a Rs 2,700-crore bank fraud case . The complainants had alleged diversion of bank loans through cheating, fraud and criminal breach of trust and causing wrongful loss to the banks. The agency said the probe revealed that Amtek group had defaulted on loans exceeding Rs 2,700 crore taken from more than 15 banks. It said that the data on financial exposure of Dham's group of companies was about Rs 30,000 crore and the lenders including many public banks had been struggling since 2015 in order to somehow recover the liabilities, the process for which had now culminated into insolvency proceedings where a haircut of 99.91% of the amount had been proposed by the petitioner.

Delhi HC rejects Rotoffset plea against SPMCI's award of excise label printing tender to Rotatek
Synopsis The Delhi High Court dismissed Rotoffset Corporation's petition against Security Printing and Mining Corporation of India's (SPMCI) decision to award a tender to Rotatek Printing for a customized excise adhesive label printing machine. Rotoffset alleged fraud and manipulation by Rotatek, claiming it was a shell company. Agencies Delhi High Court The Delhi High Court Tuesday dismissed a petition by Rotoffset Corporation, Corporation, a Micro Small Medium Enterprise, seeking quashing of proprietary article certificates (PAC) issued by Security Printing and Mining Corporation of India (SPMCI) to Rotatek Printing & Packaging Technologies the decision of SPMCI, a wholly-owned Government of India firm, to award tender for the design and supply of a customised excise adhesive label printing machine to Rotatek, a Bench comprising Chief Justice Devender Kumar Upahyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela rejected Rotoffset's plea for a directions to the Central Vigilance Commission, Comptroller and Auditor General, Central Bureau of Investigation or any other investigating authority to conduct a thorough investigation into procurement transaction involving Rotatek-branded entities from 2012 (petitioner) had alleged that Rotatek Printing and its previous avatars were shell companies and had indulged in large scale fraud, fabrication and manipulation of documents resulting in the contract being awarded to the HC said that though the May 7 tender was in the petitioner's knowledge, it chose not to challenge it or its conditions at that stage itself. It submitted that it began execution of the contract, complied with tender's enhanced technical specifications, and substantially completed the machine by January SPMCI extending the delivery deadline to March 2025, the contract was abruptly cancelled in January 2025 citing non-performance, without granting a hearing or issuing a reasoned order, the petitioner after the cancellation, SPMCI issued proprietary article certificates in favour of a newly incorporated foreign company Rotatek Printing, which lacked legitimate original equipment manufacturer credentials, Rotoffset Corporation alleged, adding that Rotatek Printing was a shell company with no manufacturing history, misleadingly projected as an original equipment manufacturer for servicing obsolete Rotatek Corporation said that this procurement violatesd the General Financial Rules, bypasses competitive bidding, excludes capable Indian MSEs and undermined the "Make in India" and "Atmanirbhar Bharat" petitioner further alleged Rotatek S.A., the Original Equipment Manufacturer, was liquidated in June 2012 by the competent authority/Court in Barcelona, Spain and its name was changed many times, ostensibly, by creation of shell companies and lastly resulting in formation of a fraud company, i.e., Rotatek opposed the petitioner's stand, saying the tender was based on PAC and therefore, the petitioner cannot claim any grievance to that extent since the tendering authority has the competence and jurisdiction to decide as to how a tender is to be the government company submitted that Rotatek was not a stranger to the tendering authority as purchases had been regularly made from Rotatek since 1999 and there is no reason as to why the it would suspect or doubt the integrity of Rotatek.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday dismissed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's allegation that Bengalis were being attacked in his state, calling it 'completely baseless." He was speaking at News18 Odia's Rising Odisha Conclave 2025 in Bhubaneswar. Majhi said no Indian citizen was being harassed and that the state's police were only conducting checks to identify suspected Bangladeshi immigrants. 'Mamata Banerjee is lying. No Indian citizen and no Bengali is being harassed or tortured in Odisha. Police are only checking if there are any suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators," he said. The Chief Minister underlined that Odisha has for decades been home to Bengalis and has historically provided refuge during crises. 'After Partition and the creation of Bangladesh, Odisha arranged for clusters in many parts of the state for displaced Bengali minorities and including areas such as Koraput, Malkangiri and other districts. They continue to live peacefully here," Majhi said. He further added that those with proper documents remain undisturbed, while only those without proof of citizenship are asked to return to their native places. 'The state government has taken care of all citizens. But if Bangladeshi infiltrators are sneaking in and snatching livelihoods from Odia people, we are mandated to act," he said.
