Rock legend buried at sea in special ceremony after star requested he ‘sleep with the fishes'
THE Damned guitarist Brian James has been buried at sea in a special ceremony.
The punk rocker's body was laid to rest on the ocean floor off the coast of Newhaven, East Sussex.
Nine friends and family — including his widow Minna — sailed out from Eastbourne to witness the burial on April 28.
It followed a small memorial service at a church near the couple's home in Brighton.
Minna told The Sun: 'It was a beautiful day and the sea was calm.
'We've been together since I was 18, so it was very emotional.
'A burial at sea is pretty unusual, but it was in his will so we had to do it.'
A local funeral firm had to apply for a certificate from the Marine Management Organisation.
The musician died at the age of 74 on March 6.
A source said: ''Brian now sleeps with the fishes, which is what he wished for before he died.
"He was a true original in life and has carried that on in death.
''The spirit of punk never left him and he was adamant he wanted his final resting place to be at sea.
''A few loved ones went out on the boat for around three hours and watched as his coffin was dropped into the drink.''

Adolescence has amassed 141.2million views since its debut on the streamer on March 13. It has also triggered a national debate and led to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer saying schools should show it to children. Sir Keir said he watched the series with his 14-year-old daughter and son, 16. He added: 'As a dad, I have not found it easy viewing.'

A sketch show which features different British people from all walks of life that are engaged in all sorts of comical scenarios. Starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams, the pair created iconic pop culture characters. Viewers loved obnoxious council estate teenager Vicky Pollard, morbidly obese scrounger Bubbles Devere, slimming coach Marjorie Dawes, despondent office worker Carol Beer, disgraced politician Sir Norman Fry, of course the iconic Lou and Andy! The Catherine Tate Show (2004-2015) - A sketch show starring the likes of Catherine Tate. She made iconic characters such as rowdy schoolgirl Lauren Cooper with her line 'Am I bovvered?'. Other characters featured Bernie the nurse, the aga saga woman, complaining couple Janice and Ray, and of course her infamous 'Nan', Joannie Taylor. The last character herself spawned multiple specials and even a movie. Gavin and Stacey (2007 - Present) The series tells the story of Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page). The pair embarked on an online and telephone romance for six months. But when they finally decide to be together properly, their friends and family get in the way. Ruth Jones and James Corden created the beloved show, which has been going for over a decade.
