Kimberly-Clark nears $3.5 billion sale of global tissue business to Suzano, WSJ reports
A deal could be completed as soon as Thursday, the report said on Wednesday.
Reuters could not immediately confirm the report. Kimberly-Clark and Suzano did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
Reuters had reported in April citing people with knowledge of the matter that along with Suzano, Southeast Asia's Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) and Asia Pulp & Paper Co (APP) were the final bidders for Kimberly-Clark's international tissue business, valued at around $4 billion.
The unit, which was put on the block by Kimberly-Clark as part of a restructuring initiated last year, generates around $500 million in annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA).
The sale is proceeding as U.S. President Donald Trump's broad trade tariffs weigh on Kimberly-Clark's business outlook. The consumer goods company slashed its annual profit forecast due to increased costs in April as a result of the tariffs.
In 2022, Suzano announced a deal to buy the Irving, Texas-headquartered company's tissue paper operations in Brazil for an undisclosed sum.

Price of gold eases after Trump rules out tariffs on imported bars
The price of gold has eased after Donald Trump announced tariffs would not be placed on gold bars. His social media statement on Monday put an end to uncertainty which had sparked panic in global trade of the precious metal. Investors sold off the metal as Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that 'Gold will not be tariffed'. The White House had earlier said it would clarify 'misinformation' about tariffs on gold bars, which are duty-free. On Friday, the price of gold futures jumped to a record high after it was reported that the US would put tariffs on imports of 1kg bars. That decision was seen as a big setback to Switzerland, which dominates the bullion market, with $36bn (£27bn) of exports making up more than two-thirds of the country's trade surplus with the US in the first quarter, according to Swiss customs data. Switzerland was hit with a blanket 39% tariff on all imports from the country, from gold to luxury watches, chocolate and cheese. However, Trump's statement on Monday allayed concerns about bullion exports, and US gold futures dropped 2.4% to $3,407 per ounce after Trump's post on Monday, reducing a premium over spot gold, the global benchmark, which fell 1.2% to $3,357. On Tuesday, gold prices were flat as investors awaited US inflation data. The Swiss Association of Precious Metals Producers and Traders (ASFCMP) welcomed the statement by Trump but said it must be followed up with a 'formal' decision. 'President Trump's statement is an encouraging signal for trade stability,' said Christoph Wild, president of the ASFCMP. 'However, only a formal and binding decision will provide the certainty the gold sector and its partners require.' A White House official told Reuters that the Trump administration was preparing an executive order 'clarifying misinformation' about tariffs on gold bars and other products. The gold market, considered a safe haven investment sector for customers ranging from individual investors to sovereign funds, was thrown into disarray last week when the US Customs and Border Protection said that 1kg and 100-ounce cast bars were not exempt from tariffs. The authorities clarified their position in response to a letter from a law firm representing a metals financier after they were suddenly faced with tariffs. Sign up to Business Today Get set for the working day – we'll point you to all the business news and analysis you need every morning after newsletter promotion Ross Norman, chief executive of Metals Daily in London, said most physical gold being flown to New York, where the gold futures market is based, would have been held back in bonded warehouses while representatives sought urgent clarification from the White House. 'I am delighted to hear the crisis has been averted,' he said. 'It will come as an enormous relief to the bullion markets, as the potential for disruption was incalculable.' Norman said gold bullion investment was a major market in the US, where customers could buy gold in their local supermarkets, including Costco. A kilo bar costs about £89,000 and coins, weighing an ounce, can be bought for £2,500. The metal is also used as a safe haven to hedge against inflation by commercial investors. Bullion refers to gold and silver officially recognised as being at least 99.5% pure and is in the form of bars or ingots rather than coins.

Trading platform eToro beats profit estimates on retail investing boom
Aug 12 (Reuters) - Stock and crypto trading platform eToro beat Wall Street views for profit in the second quarter on Tuesday, as retail investors maintained a firm risk appetite despite broader macroeconomic uncertainty due to new tariffs. Shares of eToro rose nearly 1% in premarket trading after results. Retail trading activity has been strong this year, buoyed by gains in U.S. equity markets and renewed interest in high-risk assets such as cryptocurrencies and tech stocks. Analysts say volatility from geopolitical tensions and shifting trade policies has done little to deter individual investors, who have been quick to capitalize on market swings and look for opportunities to "buy the dip". Net contribution, which deducts the cost of revenue from cryptoassets and margin interest expense, jumped 26% to $210 million from the year-ago quarter, driven primarily by increased trading activity. New-age fintech platforms have chipped away at the dominance of Wall Street incumbents in recent years, luring younger and tech-savvy investors with low fees, slick mobile apps and access to a wider range of assets. Funded accounts, referring to customers with deposited money, increased 14% in the quarter to 3.63 million, eToro said. A combination of accessible trading apps, volatile price moves and a steady flow of market news has kept retail engagement high, helping these platforms sustain growth. The financial technology company's assets under administration grew by 54% year-on-year to $17.5 billion. The company went public in May in a bumper U.S. initial public offering, with its shares surging on debut after pricing above the marketed range. They had ended the previous session about 6.3% above their IPO price. eToro posted an adjusted profit of 56 cents per share in the three months ended June 30. Analysts, on average, had expected 50 cents, according to estimates compiled by LSEG.

A once-booming US city is now swamped with homes for sale
A once-hot housing market is now in freefall as the number of homes for sale has hit the highest level in years. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is experiencing a major downturn, with the amount of homes for sale hitting levels not seen in more than a decade. Due to the surplus, houses sitting on the market are seeing price slashes. The numbers mark a stark contrast to the pandemic-era home buying frenzy in the city that saw bidding wars, record price growth, and a flood of out-of-state buyers. A combination of factors is contributing to the problem. Many sellers had been holding off on listing thinking they would be able to get more money down the line. But a flood of them listed simultaneously and the market now has too many homes for sale. Interest rate uncertainty, a wave of new construction, and slowing demand are also hurting. In July, active listings in Dallas-Fort Worth reached almost 32,000, according to Nick Gerli (pictured), CEO of real estate data consulting firm Reventure. That number is around 60 percent more than the July average of 20,000 for each July going back to 2017. Gerli said the current housing supply is 'through the roof' in a post on X, adding that the inventory surge is 'happening pretty much everywhere in DFW.' 'This is the most selection the market has had since the tail end of the last downturn in 2011–12,' Gerli wrote. Home prices are down 4.6 percent over the last year, with a current average value of $315,056, reports Zillow. Reventure forecasts a 7.8 percent drop in Dallas-Fort Worth home values over the next 12 months. Gerli described the market as 'overvalued' by 22 percent and predicted prices will eventually hit rock bottom. Dallas wasn't always in trouble. Between March 2017 and a peak in May 2025, home values in Dallas grew from $185,000 to $331,000, reports Zillow. For potential buyers, the shift could bring an opportunity to own a home at a reasonable price. In May, the Texas city was one of only 10 metros across the country where home prices fell, reports Redfin. It was a year-over-year drop of 3.4 percent. There were 29,084 homes listed for sale in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington in May 2025. In May 2024, there were just 6,010.
