Education Ministry says investigating claim Pakistani national officiated school sports event in Perak
IPOH, June 27 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) is investigating claims that a Pakistani national officiated a school sports event in the Kerian district, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
'We are looking into the matter,' she told reporters briefly after attending the Perak-level Maal Hijrah 1447H celebration, which was officiated by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah here last night.
A video recently circulated on social media showed the man being given the honour of launching the athletics meet at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sama Gagah in Simpang Empat Semanggol.
Meanwhile, Fadhlina expressed her gratitude to the Sultan Nazrin for posthumously conferring the Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq Award on her late mother, Datin Dr Siti Zalikhah Md Nor.
'She was a lecturer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a defender of syariah law. Empowering women in all aspects was her life's work and area of expertise.
'On behalf of my family, I would like to thank His Royal Highness and the state government for this meaningful recognition,' she said.
Earlier, Sultan Nazrin presented the award to Fadhlina, who accepted it on her late mother's behalf. — Bernama

PETALING JAYA : The attorney-general (AG) has asked lawyer Shafee Abdullah to show cause why committal proceedings should not be brought against him over his description of a court proceeding as 'a Nazi-Germany kind of hearing'. In a letter dated June 23 and handed personally to Shafee, the AG sought a reply from him within seven days. 'If you do not provide a satisfactory explanation within seven days from the date of this notice, criminal prosecution will be initiated against you,' the letter, sighted by FMT, read. The letter was signed by deputy public prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin on behalf of AG Dusuki Mokhtar and sent pursuant to Order 52, Rule 2B of the Rules of Court 2012. The provision states that any formal notice to show cause why a person should not be committed to prison or fined must be served personally. The letter claimed that Shafee, who acts for ex-prime minister Najib Razak in his ongoing criminal charges and civil suits, made the remark during a press conference on May 29, which was live-streamed via Najib's Facebook page. The letter alleged that the words spoken as a whole could undermine public confidence and interfere in the administration of justice. Malaysiakini last month reported Shafee's criticism of a court order to temporarily stop all proceedings linked to Najib's royal addendum, during which the lawyer allegedly compared the decision to 'a Nazi-Germany kind of hearing'. Shafee clarified to the media that the remark was made during an exchange with a reporter and was intended to educate the public, not undermine the judiciary. He also said the remark was made solely in the context of explaining the meaning and essence of a 'judicial decision'. Najib has obtained leave from the Court of Appeal to begin judicial review proceedings to enforce a royal decree which allows him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest. However, proceedings have been suspended pending the disposal of the AG's appeal to the Federal Court, which will be heard next week.

PUTRAJAYA, June 27 – Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has expressed concern over the government's move to revise and restructure the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), warning that the last-minute decision could undermine public confidence in the national policy document. Responding to a statement by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Rafizi said he was worried that this is a knee-jerk reaction towards public brickbats towards Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. 'I worry that the government is being reactionary, merely in response to a few recent social media replies directed at Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil regarding 13MP. 'Some netizens discussed 13MP and replied to his comments, which appeared to downplay or erase my involvement in the preparation of the document,' he said in a statement here. Rafizi warned that the announcement to 'revise and restructure' 13MP has raised concern among civil servants, market analysts monitoring national policy, and the public at large. The Pandan MP noted that the 13MP was developed solely by civil servants, without the involvement of external consultants, in under a year – making it the fastest-prepared Malaysia Plan to date. With only two weeks remaining before the final draft is sent for printing, Rafizi questioned if the restructuring would be rushed and whether it would bypass the consultative process with stakeholders and experts. He also warned that politicising the 13MP would do a disservice to the thousands of civil servants who worked on it and could erode public trust in the final document. 'If that happens, it would be a grave injustice to those who have worked tirelessly — often for over 12 hours a day — over the past year,' he said. He stressed that the Malaysia Plan serves as a binding framework for national policies and programmes over five years, typically developed through a non-political and rigorous process. Rafizi explained that 13MP's preparation had involved a bottom-up approach through the Inter Agency Planning Group, Technical Working Groups, and engagement sessions with state governments, industry players, and MPs between September and December 2024. Simultaneously, a top-down approach was conducted by the Ministry of Economy and policy experts to develop structural reform proposals, which were deliberated with the Prime Minister and a Special Cabinet Committee from February to April this year. Earlier, Chief Secretary to the Government and Cabinet Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan has been tasked with carrying out the duties and functions of the Economy Minister with immediate effect — beginning with revising the 13MP for the July Parliamentary session. On May 28, Rafizi had announced his resignation from the post of economy minister, following a defeat for the deputy president post in the recent PKR party elections.
