'We are looking into the matter,' she told reporters briefly after attending the Perak-level Maal Hijrah 1447H celebration, which was officiated by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah here last night.
A video recently circulated on social media showed the man being given the honour of launching the athletics meet at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sama Gagah in Simpang Empat Semanggol.
Meanwhile, Fadhlina expressed her gratitude to the Sultan Nazrin for posthumously conferring the Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq Award on her late mother, Datin Dr Siti Zalikhah Md Nor.
'She was a lecturer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a defender of syariah law. Empowering women in all aspects was her life's work and area of expertise.
'On behalf of my family, I would like to thank His Royal Highness and the state government for this meaningful recognition,' she said.
Earlier, Sultan Nazrin presented the award to Fadhlina, who accepted it on her late mother's behalf. — Bernama

Sun Haiyan, a senior diplomat and former ambassador to Singapore, was detained in early August around the time Liu Jianchao, widely seen as a potential foreign minister candidate, was taken in for questioning, two of the people said. Sun, the first woman to serve as vice-minister of the Communist Party's international department, was detained by Chinese authorities in connection with the questioning of Liu, the sources said. None of the sources knew the basis of the questioning of either diplomat. The sources requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter. The detention of Liu marked the highest-level disappearance of a diplomat since China ousted its former foreign minister and president Xi Jinping's protege, Qin Gang, in 2023, following an unexplained public absence. His detention followed a work trip to Singapore, South Africa and Algeria. His house was searched in early August. The disappearance of Sun, vice-minister of the Chinese Communist Party's international department, alongside the highly visible Liu, adds to questions about China's foreign policy establishment at a time of rising tensions with Washington around trade and geopolitical influence. China's state council information office, which handles media queries for the government, and the international department did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Reuters could not verify if both Sun and Liu were still being detained. Neither could be reached for comment. Both their profiles remain on the international department's website. Sun's last public appearance was on Aug 1, when she attended a reception hosted by Nepal's embassy in Beijing. Sun, 53, was stationed in Singapore between May 2022 and July 2023. When she left her post, she hosted a 500-person reception at a luxury Singapore hotel, according to Chinese news reports. She joined the international department in 1997, where she served in a wide range of roles, including spokesman and head of the bureau responsible for ties with Southeast Asian countries. She also served as a district party committee official in the city of Zibo, Shandong province, in 2008. Originally from Hebei province, Sun holds a doctorate in law from Peking University, having also studied at Japan's Kyushu University.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he stepped down as Muda president in 2023 as he wanted to show that holding the presidency required being 'whiter than white'. PUTRAJAYA : Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has turned down Muda's offer to return as party president following his acquittal on corruption and money laundering charges, saying he needs more time to decide on the matter. Syed Saddiq, who temporarily stepped down as Muda president after his conviction by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in 2023, was offered the post in June when the Court of Appeal cleared him of all charges. 'I have informed the party's leadership that I need a little bit more time,' he said at an event here today. 'I want to spend time with my family, focus on my constituency work in Muar, and continue fundraising for local needs. 'I've already relayed my decision to the party leadership, and I will leave it at that.' he said. Syed Saddiq said he stepped down as Muda president in 2023 as he wanted to show that holding the presidency required being 'whiter than white'. He was convicted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court of abetting in criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of assets and money laundering in November 2023. The former youth and sports minister was sentenced to seven years' jail, a RM10 million fine and two strokes of the rotan. The sentences were stayed pending an appeal to the Court of Appeal. On June 25, the Court of Appeal unanimously acquitted him after Justice Noorin Badaruddin said the prosecution had failed to prove the ingredients of the predicate charges of abetting in CBT and dishonest misappropriation. Noorin also said Syed Saddiq should have been acquitted without his defence being called during the trial. Acting Muda president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz then offered to return the party presidency to Syed Saddiq after stating that he had cleared his name in court. She said this was decided by Muda's central executive committee, which agreed that Syed Saddiq's return to leadership would strengthen the party, especially in gaining support ahead of the next general election.

S. Karunanithy takes helm as new Penang MACC director

Karunanithy has been appointed as the new director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Penang, succeeding Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, who now heads the MACC in Sabah. In a statement, the agency said the official handover ceremony was held today at the state MACC office, witnessed by MACC Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin. In his farewell address, Mohd Fuad thanked the Penang MACC team for their support and dedication during his tenure, noting significant achievements in operations, prevention and management throughout 2024 and 2025.
