State govt to identify, deportillegal Bangladeshi immigrants

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma
's directives Wednesday.
At a high-level meeting held at the chief minister's residence, Sharma instructed officials to intensify surveillance and deport undocumented Bangladeshi nationals. The meeting was attended by home secretary Anand Kumar, DGP UR Sahoo, and senior officers from the state intelligence branch.
The state has long struggled to detect such individuals, many of whom are believed to have obtained forged Indian identity documents such as Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar, PAN cards, and even passports. Officials say this significantly complicates verification and deportation processes.
"Despite repeated attempts, our efforts often faltered due to identity verification issues, especially in urban slums and informal settlements," a senior official told TOI.

An estimated 90,000 Bangladeshis are believed to be living in Rajasthan. Following the meeting, DGP Sahoo held a video conference with district SPs, instructing them to intensify local detection operations and coordinate closely with the state special branch (SSB).
Sources said that the city police had uncovered an organised racket in Nov last year, facilitating the illegal stay of Bangladeshi nationals by supplying fake identity documents. Eleven Bangladeshi nationals were deported during that operation.
"Coordination with central agencies like the ministry of external affairs (MEA) and ministry of home affairs (MHA) remains a key challenge in executing large-scale deportations," the official added.
The state govt now plans a multi-agency campaign across districts to identify both illegal immigrants and networks that enable their stay. Action would also be taken against those who assist them in acquiring forged identity documents, officials said.

'If Trump were president in 2022, there would be no war': Putin after Alaska meeting; US President says no deal with Russia over Ukraine conflict
President Donald Trump greets Russia's President Vladimir Putin Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. AP/PTI(AP08_16_2025_000011A) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday claimed that he would not have invaded Ukraine if Joe Biden had not been in office, a remark seen as courting Donald Trump, even as US tariff threats persist. 'I'd like to remind you that in 2022, during the last contact with the previous administration, I tried to convince my previous American colleague the situation should not be brought to the point of no return when it would come to hostilities,' Putin said after his nearly three-hour summit with Trump in Alaska. 'And I said it quite directly back then. 'That's a big mistake today, when President Trump is saying that if he was the president back then, there will be no war — and I'm quite sure that it would indeed be, so I can confirm that.' 'I think that, overall, me and President Trump have built a very good business-like [relationship],' he added. Trump has frequently expressed the belief that Putin would not have initiated the invasion had he been president in 2022, but he did not appear to engage with the dictator's provocation on Friday. Ahead of the meeting in Alaska, Trump, while in his flight, told Fox News that this Ukraine war is Biden's war and he was the one who screwed up. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "I'm not doing it based on history, based on anything else — I'm doing it based on a deal. If we make a deal, great. If I see that there's no hope of making a deal, I'm out of there... This isn't my war. This is Biden's war. Biden screwed this up..." Putin said. Trump subtly reminded Putin that he would not engage in any business dealings with Russia until the Kremlin ceased its three-year war on Ukraine, highlighting the US' leverage. 'We … have some tremendous Russian business representatives here, and I think everybody wants to deal with us. We've become the hottest country anywhere in the world in a very short period of time,' he said. 'We look forward to dealing — we're going to try and get this over with. '… We'll have a good chance when this is over.' Trump said that he and Putin did not reach an agreement to resolve Moscow's war in Ukraine, though he characterized the meeting as 'very productive.' 'There were many, many points that we agreed on,' Trump said at a joint press conference with Putin. 'I would say a couple of big ones that we haven't quite got there, but we've made some headway. So there's no deal until there's a deal.'

Need for awareness of Constitution stressed
Ongole: The speakers at the programme, 'Indian Constitution- Minimum Awareness' and prize distribution for the elocution competition held in Ongole on Saturday, emphasised that the Indian constitution guarantees freedom, equality, and empowerment, but the people with no awareness of it are losing them one by one. Prakasam Zilla Abhivriddhi Vedika president and Samyukt Kisan Morcha district convener Chunduri Rangarao presided over the meeting that was held by the Prakasam Zilla Abhivriddhi Vedika, Organisation for Protection of Democratic Rights, Democratic Rights Protection Forum, and other public fronts, and in which former Chief Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar Acharyulu, former Agriculture Minister and state convener for Samyukt Kisan Morcha Vadde Sobhanadriswara Rao participated as the chief guests. Addressing the gathering, Sridhar Acharyulu expressed concern that many Indians still lack basic constitutional knowledge and are confused over the celebrations of Independence Day and Republic Day. He noted that Dr BR Ambedkar enshrined equal rights, freedom, and liberty for all citizens in the Constitution, but ruling parties make amendments according to their preferences. He criticised the attempt of the Election Commission to delete 65 lakh votes in Bihar and appreciated the Supreme Court intervention. He questioned the fate of democracy in the State when the locals are forced not to use their right to vote. He warned the youth to keep track of their vote and exercise their right to elect only people with no criminal background. He highlighted economic inequality, stating that while a few corporate forces accumulate wealth worth lakhs of crores, the majority's economic situation deteriorates significantly. Former Agriculture Minister Sobhanadriswara Rao emphasised that constitutional awareness helps citizens understand both their rights and duties. He criticised rulers for trampling the constitution while allowing corporate forces to exploit national resources. He noted that 48 percent of national wealth is concentrated among 21 corporate entities. Rangarao observed that the makers of the constitution wanted everyone in the country to prosper with development, education, and opportunities, but this was not achieved even after 79 years of Independence. He said that though people are educated now, they do not have the minimum understanding of their constitutional rights and duties. That is why, he opined, the rulers are infringing on the rights of the public. Other speakers, Retired Degree College principal Sanku Manorama, Senior Advocate Panguluri Govindaiah, OPDR president Chavali Sudhakar, Chunchu Seshaiah, and others observed that the constitution is in crisis now. They said that the rulers are promoting religious patriotism while endangering secularism in the country. They said that the people claiming themselves as public servants were torturing the public, and are even pressuring the judges. They said that though the constitution is not comprehensive, the fundamental rights are still able to protect the public. The seminar concluded with the prize distribution for the winners of the elocution competition, which was held from July 20. Saisri from Addanki GGH School won first prize, Farhan from Markapur ZPHS secured second place, and M Nandini from Etamukkala ZPHS received third prize, along with several consolation prizes from others.

Rajamahendravaram: The free bus travel scheme for women was launched in East Godavari district by the Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh on Friday. The inaugural event was conducted at the RTC complex in Rajamahendravaram. Following the launch, Minister Durgesh, accompanied by officials and other public representatives, embarked on a bus ride to interact with female passengers. He presented the first 'zero-fare' ticket to a traveller. The Minister explained that to avail of the free travel, girls, women, and transgender people must present a valid government-issued ID such as an Aadhaar card or Voter ID. Approximately 186 buses have been designated for the scheme in East Godavari district, and they are expected to cover over 56,000 km daily. The scheme is applicable to five types of buses: Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, city ordinary, Metro Express, and Express. Free travel is also extended to AP Enclave buses going to neighbouring States, a measure intended to assist residents of border villages who frequently travel to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha and Telangana. The Minister highlighted the inclusion of transgender people in the scheme as a 'revolutionary' step, aimed at providing support to a community that often faces social neglect. Minister Durgesh emphasised that the coalition government is committed to delivering its promises. He mentioned that in addition to free bus travel, plans are underway to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to women and unemployment benefits to youth. He also pointed out that other pledges, such as the increase in NTR Bharosa pensions, free gas cylinders through the Deepam 2 programme, and the release of pending paddy dues from the previous administration, have already been implemented. The Minister concluded by asserting that the government's focus is on public welfare and that the recent by-election results in Pulivendula and Ontimitta prove there is no significant Opposition in the State.
