Pankaj Tripathi On Taking Break From Acting After Father's Death: ‘Didn't Sign A Film…'
Last Updated: Pankaj Tripathi said that he never officially announced a break, but following his father's death, he embarked on an introspective journey. Pankaj Tripathi is one of the finest actors in the Hindi film industry. He was recently seen in Criminal Justice: A Family Matter, which premiered on JioHotstar. The actor recently revealed that he took a 1-year-long break from acting, and did not sign a single film the past year. The break was intentional, and the actor shared that while he did not announce the hiatus, he embarked on an introspective journey. Pankaj Tripathi said that he needed the time to work on himself and heal-physically and mentally. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Pankaj Tripathi said, 'After my father's demise, I went on an introspective journey. I did not sign a film for one year, and I didn't announce that I was taking a break." He further added, 'I took time off to work on myself and heal, physically and mentally. That's why I've lost weight. I work out for three hours a day, six days a week. I also travelled — trips that I'd been putting off for a long time." Although Pankaj Tripathi fulfilled minor professional commitments over the last year- like ad shoots and patchwork for Anurag Basu's 'Metro…In Dino', he deliberately stepped away from media interactions and chose not to take on new scripts. He shared that he kept telling everyone that he doesn't have time, but that time was actually reserved for introspection. Pankaj Tripathi Reveals Why He Took A Break From Acting 'I'm at a point where I'm no longer working for the money. I need to do work that gives me something to look forward to," he said. He recalled that there was a time when he was counting days on projects just waiting for them to end. 'And I thought- this can't be right. I love this profession so much. I've made so many sacrifices to get here, and if I'm spending my days just waiting for shoots to wrap, then something's wrong. That's why I took a break," he explained. Pankaj Tripathi's father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, passed away in August 2023. He was 99. Post his father's death, Pankaj Tripathi dedicated his big National Award win to him and also opened a library in his village high school, as a token of remembrance for him. Meanwhile, Pankaj Tripathi will next be seen in 'Metro… In Dino', which is a sequel to the 2007 drama 'Life… In A Metro.' Helmed by Anurag Basu, the film features an ensemble cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Saswat Chatterjee in the lead. It will hit the big screens on July 2, 2025. First Published:

‘She might eat a 100 Shreya Ghoshals…': Chinmayi apologizes to Dhee after Mutha Mazhai from Thug Life goes viral
Singer Chinmayi's sensational performance of the song Mutha Mazhai from Thug Life at its audio launch received a lot of love. With the huge fanfare her version of the song is garnering, the playback singer has apologized to her colleague Dhee, who originally sang it in the movie. In a recent interview with The Hindu, Chinmayi candidly spoke about how delightful it is to see the response. She said, 'Actually, Dhee was not unfortunately available that day. I had sung the song's Telugu and Hindi versions, and I just did my job. Other than that, I was just a stand-in because the original singer wasn't there.' The singer went on to quote a dialogue from Kamal Haasan's Dasavataram, revealing how she sometimes questions the existence of a god. She added that when Dhee was included in the project, it was clear that the makers were going for something quirky, as she knew the latter had a special expression that was exclusive to her. Chinmayi went on to add how now it feels like she and Dhee are in some kind of wrestling match that they didn't sign up for. Acknowledging it, the singer highlighted how, as artists, they admire each other's works. Moreover, the singer also said, 'I really want to apologize to her. She's a young girl, and she started out a while ago. 15 years down the line, she might eat 100 Chinmayis or Shreya Ghoshals. She would have her own space, and comparing both our versions is not necessary. If you had asked an 18-year-old or 20-year-old Chinmayi to sing like this, she probably wouldn't.' For those unaware, the singer had recently become a viral sensation after singing the song Mutha Mazhai from Thug Life onstage. The response that followed led her to clear the air in such a manner. Chinmayi sings Mutha Mazhai at Thug Life audio launch The upcoming movie, Thug Life, is a gangster actioner starring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR in the lead roles. The movie directed by Mani Ratnam is slated to release on June 5, 2025.
