Terror Pakistan spread in present-day Bangladesh, rapes and murders by its army there cannot be forgotten: PM Modi in Bengal

India Gazette7 days ago

Alipurduar (West Bengal) [India], May 24 (ANI): Noting that the country's enemy will have a huge cost to pay if there is a terror attack in India, PM Modi on Thursday said Pakistan had resorted to terrorist action against India after partition in 1947 and that the terror it spread ahead of creation of Bangladesh and the rape and murders committed by its army there cannot be forgotten.
The Prime Minister, who was addressing a rally here, referred to the success of Operation Sindoor in which precision strikes were conducted on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK in response to Pahalgam terror attack.
'Now that I am standing on the sacred land of Sindoor Khela, it is only right that we speak about a new resolve against terrorism -- Operation Sindoor. On April 22, the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam shook the nation. The pain and anger felt across West Bengal were deeply understood,' he said.
'I could feel your outrage. The terrorists dared to wipe off the sindoor from the foreheads of our sisters. But our brave soldiers made them realise the power of that sindoor. Pakistan, the country that nurtures terrorism, has nothing positive to offer to the world. Since its very inception, it has been a breeding ground for terror and violence. But India has changed. We no longer tolerate such cowardly acts. And Operation Sindoor is our firm answer,' he added.
PM Modi said Operation Sindoor has not ended. 'We are the people of worship Shakti, Mahishasuramardini. From this land of Bengal, this is a declaration of 140 crore Indians that Operation Sindoor is not over yet,' he said.
'After the Pahalgam attack, India has now told the world that if there is a terrorist attack, the enemy will have to pay a heavy price for it,' he said.
PM Modi said India had carried out surgical strikes thrice inside Pakistan.
He said 'terror and genocide are biggest expertise' of Pakistan Army.
'When there is a direct battle (against India), their defeat is certain, that is why Pakistan's Army takes help from terrorists. It started attacking India after the partition in 1947. After a few years, the terror it spread in what is now Bangladesh, the way its army committed rape and murder in Bangladesh, no one can forget it,' he said.
Bangladesh emerged as a separate country in 1971 after the War of Liberation against Pakistan.
PM Modi said Pakistan, the country that nurtures terrorism, has nothing positive to offer to the world. 'Since its very inception, it has been a breeding ground for terror and violence.'
Operation Sindoor was India's decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Launched early on May 7, Operation Sindoor led to the death of over 100 terrorists. India also effectively repelled subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases.
In his speech, PM Modi also launched a scathing attack on Mamata Banerjee government and said West Bengal needs freedom from 'politics of violence, appeasement, riots and corruption' and that the people are looking towards 'BJP's development model'.
PM Modi took several jibes at the Trinamool Congress government, and said West Bengal is surrounded by many crises simultaneously.
'First is the crisis of violence and anarchy spreading in the society. Second is the unsafety of our mothers and sisters who are being subjected to heinous crimes. The third crisis is of the extreme despair and rampant unemployment spreading among the youth. The fourth crisis is of the continuously declining trust in the system. The fifth crisis is of the selfish politics of the ruling party, that steals the rights of the poor,' he said.
PM Modi said the youth and poor families suffer the worst consequences of corruption. He alleged that the education system of West Bengal is being ruined.
'We saw how corruption ruins everything in the teacher recruitment scam. The TMC government in their tenure destroyed the future and families of thousands of teachers and left their children helpless. The whole education system of West Bengal is being ruined. The absence of teachers has put the futures of lakhs of students at risk. The TMC leaders have committed such a huge sin. The limit is that even today these people are not ready to accept their mistake. Instead, they blame the courts,' he said.
PM Modi attacked the TMC government over violence in Murshidabad and Malda.
'Whatever happened in Murshidabad and Malda was an example of the government's ruthlessness here... In the name of appeasement, hooliganism was given a free hand. Imagine the horrific situation when the people of a party running the government identify and burn people's houses, and the police act as mere spectators. I ask the poor people of Bengal, is this how a government runs?... Here, the court has to intervene on every issue. Otherwise, nothing gets resolved. The people of Bengal do not trust the TMC government anymore... 'Bengal mein machi cheekh pukaar, nahi chahiye nirmam sarkar',' he added.
PM Modi accused TMC government of hostility towards the tribals, poor, Dalits, backward classes and women.
'The TMC government is stalling the development of the poor tribal communities... TMC doesn't care about the tribal community's respect. When the NDA government made a tribal woman a Presidential candidate for the first time, TMC was the first party to oppose that,' he said.
'Why is TMC being hostile towards the poor, Dalits, the backward classes, women, and tribals?... Unfortuantely, the people of West Bengal are not getting the benefits of the Ayushman scheme... The ruthless government didn't let the people of West Bengal get Ayushman cards... Many poor people are not able to get permanent houses because of the TMC government, because their leaders are demanding cut and commission from the poor,' he added.
PM Modi accused the TMC of being interested only in playing politics.
'The West Bengal government was absent from the NITI Aayog Governing Council's meeting in Delhi. TMC only wants to play politics 24 hours. They do not prioritise West Bengal's development or the country's progress. The Central Government policies that have been implemented here in West Bengal are not being fulfilled... The TMC government has stalled 16 major infrastructure projects in West Bengal,' he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of City Gas Distribution project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts in Alipurduar at West Bengal. (ANI)

Mango Man Padma Shri Kalimullah Khan names his new variety after Operation Sindoor

For over a decade, Kalimullah Khan, a farmer and horticulturist from Uttar Pradesh, has been creating hybrid mango varieties and naming them after celebrities. Actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and even politicians like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Sonia Gandhi have all got mango trees that produce a deliciously special fruit that's named after them. After the success of Operation Sindoor, the 85-year-old created two new types of mangoes that he has named after India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the missile strikes against Pakistan called Rajnath aam and Sindoor aam. The Padma Shri awardee says. 'These fruits are for people who've done extraordinary work. From the moment the Indian army's operation was a success, I wanted to grow a mango that was dedicated to this feat and the architect behind it. For these two mangoes, we mixed chausa, amigudarsha, langda and dasheri in different proportions to create a tasty variety of the fruit for this season and it will be available till the month of July.' "We felt compelled to dedicate a special mango to this act of bravery. From the moment the army operation was successfully completed, it was in our minds that this year a variety should be dedicated to the victorious force, along with the architect behind it. So we came with the variety," shares the second son of Kalimullah, Nazimullah Khan, who along with his father previously bred the 'Namo aam' in 2014 and the 'Yogiji aam' in 2017. These mangoes are a rare treat that can be relished by visitors to the farm: 'We don't sell the fruits but distribute it for free to visitors. They are a tribute.' While the farmer prefers using dasheri mangoes in his passion project, he is secretive of the varieties used to grow these mangoes. 'Many kinds of mangoes are used in this process till we get the right flavour,' says Kalimullah, whose favourite is the Aishwarya aam.

Sanjay Jha-led delegation briefs EAM Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor outreach

The all-party parliamentary delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha on Thursday met External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and briefed him on the support received during their recent five-nation diplomatic outreach on the Operation Sindoor. The delegation which met EAM Jaishankar included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Hemang Joshi, and Pradan Baruah, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M)'s Rajya Sabha member John Brittas, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and former diplomat Mohan Kumar. During their visits to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, the delegation presented dossiers and evidence on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism relating to Pahalgam terror attack and also informed them about India's military action under Operation Sindoor. Speaking to IANS after the meeting, JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha said, "There was a very positive atmosphere in Indonesia. We received support, and their statement was in favour of India. Malaysia, however, appeared a little neutral. We noticed every country had its own approach. In many places, we got a positive response; in some, it was neutral, and in a few, there were questions. But this was the aim of our tour -- to understand and share perspectives." "We shared with them our firm stand against terrorism," he added. Responding to criticism from sections of the Opposition regarding alleged losses suffered during Operation Sindoor, Jha asserted, "The strongest message we sent globally was that India stands united. When I introduced the delegation members as being from Kerala, Assam, Bengal, Gujarat, and from different parties, it sent a strong signal that the entire nation and political spectrum was speaking in one voice. If one or two voices dissent, they should reflect on whether they are aligned with the country or somewhere else." BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi said, "We received an invitation from the EAM's office, and today we all had a productive discussion. Each member shared detailed experiences from the countries we visited. The Minister was deeply engaged and asked many questions. We explained everything in depth. Now the MEA will take a call on the further steps." Referring to the criticism over timing of diplomatic outreach, Sarangi said, "The delegation completed its work with seriousness and gave its briefing. Even today, during the meeting with the EAM, leaders like Salman Khurshid and CPI(M)'s John Brittas were present, and there was great camaraderie and unity. That's what stood out the most."

PM Narendra Modi launches Aravalli Green Wall Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday planted a banyan sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi, symbolically launching the Aravalli Green Wall projects. On World Environment Day, which is celebrated today, PM Modi also highlighted the importance of reforesting the Aravalli range under the Aravalli Green Wall project. 'In the Aravalli range and beyond, in addition to the traditional planting methods, we will encourage new techniques especially in urban and semi-urban areas where there are space constraints. Plantation activities will be geo-tagged and monitored on the Meri LiFE portal', PM Modi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He highlighted that the region faces multiple environmental challenges which the government is committed to addressing. 'It is widely known that the Aravalli range is one of the oldest on our planet, covering Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. The past several years have brought to the fore several environmental challenges relating to this range, which our government is committed to mitigating. Our focus is to rejuvenate areas linked with this range. We are going to work with the respective local administrations and going to emphasise things such as improving water systems, curbing dust storms, stopping eastward expansion of the Thar desert and more,' PM Modi wrote. 'Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we strengthened the #EkPedMaaKeNaam initiative with a special tree plantation drive. I planted a sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi. This is also part of our effort to reforest the Aravalli range - the Aravalli Green Wall project,' he said. Also Read: Govt to soon launch Green Wall project to save exploited Aravallis HT reported on June 4 that the Aravalli Green Wall project will look at large-scale landscape restoration across 4 states by removal of prospis juliflora (a kind of mesquite) and planting of native species, especially in reserved forest areas under the forest departments. Trees such as the khair (Indian gum arabic), ronjh (White-barked Acacia); dhau (axlewood), pilkhan (white fig), salai (Indian frankincense), among others, are native to the belt. Aravallis are likely the country's oldest mountain range, spanning 670 km, and runs in a southwesterly direction from Delhi to Gujarat. It boasts 22 wildlife sanctuaries including four tiger reserves (Ranthambore is one) and bird parks. It is the source of important rivers including the Chambal. And it hosts the only primary forest in the National Capital Region, with tools from the lower Palaeolithic period (3.3 million years to 300,000 years ago) and cave art being found in the hills around the forest.
