House Of Kong: Gorillaz to celebrate 25th anniversary with immersive exhibition and concert series

Yahoo21-05-2025

Gorillaz, the famous virtual band created by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, are marking their 25th anniversary with a new exhibition at London's Copper Box later this year.
The immersive showcase, titled House Of Kong, takes place for a limited run from 8 August to 3 September, and will allow fans to peek behind the curtain of the virtual band's creation – all the way back to the release of their 2000 debut single 'Tomorrow Comes Today'.
A press release states: "Visitors to House of Kong will take a jaunt behind the curtain of Gorillaz' extraordinary world. A journey through the band's life of misadventures, musical innovation and ground-breaking virtual ways since these four outsiders – bassist Murdoc Niccals, singer 2D, drummer Russel Hobbs and guitarist Noodle – first came together to blow up a pre-digital world with the release of 'Tomorrow Comes Today' in 2000. An exhibition like no other, House of Kong is an experience for the brave and bold.'
Watch the trailer for House of Kong below (with a few cheeky callbacks to The Exorcist with the statue of Pazuzu as the main image) and buy tickets here.
House of Kong exhibition ticket holders will have exclusive presale access to the Copper Box Arena dates, which coincide with the exhibition.
Indeed, Gorillaz have announced four special live shows at the Copper Box Arena – on 29 and 30 August, as well as on 2 and 3 September.
In March, Albarn confirmed to French publication Les Inrockuptibles that a new Gorillaz album is on the way.
'I'm finishing a new Gorillaz album,' Albarn shared. 'One opera and one new Gorillaz album seems like enough for 2025! Unless someone accuses me of taking my foot off the gas!'
The opera he's referring to is The Magic Flute II: La Malédiction, an electro pop opera composed and performed by Albarn.
Hewlett confirmed the news of a new Gorillaz album on Instagram: 'Yes, the new album is coming out this year.'
The band's last release was 2023's 'Cracker Island', which was one of our favourite albums that year. In our review, we said: 'Inspired by Albarn's meeting with Princess Siribha Chudabhorn at a Blur concert in Bangkok in the '90s, it's dreamy pop at its finest. So, despite a quarter of a century in the game, it seems as though Gorillaz are very much here to stay. We couldn't be happier.'
The legendary gates of Kong will open to the public for the very first time on 8 August to 3 September at London's Copper Box.

French Open: 361st-ranked Frenchwoman Boisson upsets No. 3 Pegula. Gauff, Djokovic and Sinner win

PARIS (AP) — Loïs Boisson never had played at the French Open, let alone in the biggest arena at Roland-Garros. Nothing fazed the French wild-card entry and now she is in the quarterfinals. Boisson, ranked just 361st, threw her head back and roared after beating No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Court Philippe-Chatrier in the fourth round Monday. Advertisement She is by far the lowest-ranked woman to beat someone ranked in the top five at the French Open in 40 years. The lowest previously in that span was No. 179 Aniko Kapros, who eliminated No. 5 Justine Henin in the first round in 2002. Boisson also is the lowest-ranked woman to reach the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros since at least 1985. Quite a victory, considering Pegula was the U.S. Open runner-up last year. Understandably, Boisson was nervous as she served for the match and saved three break points. After Pegula missed an easy-looking winner at the net and clutched her head in her hands, Boisson had her first match point, the biggest point of her career. Advertisement Pegula returned a strong serve to the back of the court, where Boisson unleashed a forehand winner down the line. She then raised her arms and realized the enormity of her win. 'Thank you to all of you," Boisson told the crowd in her post-match interview. 'Playing on this court with such an atmosphere was really incredible.' Boisson made the notoriously hard-to-please crowd laugh when she added: 'I'm really happy on here. I can stay a long time if you like.' The crowd broke into chants of 'Loïs! Loïs!" and she waved back to them. She is the only French singles player left in either bracket and feels comfortable on clay, having played on it regularly since taking up tennis when she was 8. Advertisement Asked what her ambitions were for the rest of the tournament — she plays sixth-seeded Mirra Andreeva on Wednesday in the quarterfinals — Boisson replied, 'I hope to win, right?' That prompted more laughter from the crowd, which included tournament director Amelie Mauresmo, who has been criticized for the lack of women's matches during night sessions. What else happened at the French Open on Monday? Another women's quarterfinal was set up between No. 2 Coco Gauff and No. 7 Madison Keys, two Americans who each own one Grand Slam title. Gauff, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, won 6-0, 7-5 against No. 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Keys, the Australian Open title winner in January, defeated yet another American, Hailey Baptiste, 6-3, 7-5. Advertisement Over on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, the 18-year-old Andreeva, who reached the semifinals at Roland-Garros last year for her best performance at a major, got past No. 17 Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 6-3. They are pals, and Kasatkina playfully threw her wristband at Andreeva when they came to the net; Andreeva joked she would keep it. In men's action, Novak Djokovic earned his 100th career French Open victory and set up a quarterfinal against No. 3 Alexander Zverev, last year's runner-up. No. 62 Alexander Bublik surprised No. 5 Jack Draper 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 and next meets No. 1 Jannik Sinner, a 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 winner over No. 17 Andrey Rublev on Monday night. Sinner has won 18 consecutive Grand Slam matches. Djokovic overwhelmed Cam Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, and Zverev was leading 6-4, 3-0 when Tallon Griekspoor quit because of an abdominal strain. Who is playing at Roland-Garros on Tuesday? Advertisement The quarterfinals get started on Day 10. The women's matches are No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka vs. Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng, and three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek against No. 13 Elina Svitolina. The men's matches are No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti vs. No. 15 Frances Tiafoe, and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz vs. No. 12 Tommy Paul at night. Tiafoe and Paul give the United States two men's quarterfinalists for the first time since Jim Courier and Pete Sampras in 1996. There hadn't even been one from the country since Andre Agassi in 2003. ___ AP tennis: Jerome Pugmire, The Associated Press

The Young and the Restless spoilers: Damian fired and Holden gets intriguing new job

When The Young and the Restless' Damian (Jermaine Rivers) and Holden (Nathan Owens) arrived in Genoa City, it seemed as if the two were a packaged deal. After they dropped the charade of Holden pretending to be Damian, it was revealed that Damian was a CEO working for Aristotle Dumas, and Holden was Damian's right-hand man. Additionally, Damian and Holden were best friends. Fast forward to the present, and the dynamic between the duo has become rather complex. Damian has slowly been trying to repair a relationship with his mother, while getting to know Nate (Sean Dominic) as his brother and trying to earn some trust with Lily (Christel Khalil) and Devon (Bryton James). Holden, on the other hand, has more or less felt like an outsider in Genoa City, with no one willing to give him the benefit of the doubt outside of Claire (Hayley Erin). Although he has a romantic history with Audra (Zuleyka Silver) and would like to at least be her friend, she's been rather prickly and dismissive of him. Despite Holden's borderline pariah status, he's remained in town, knowing he's at least working as Damian's number two for Aristotle. Sadly, in The Young and the Restless episode airing on June 2, Damian gets the news from Aristotle's assistant that he's been fired ahead of Aristotle's secret French bash. While Damin doesn't seem terribly bothered by the news since he just accepted a job offer at Winters, he is concerned about what this now means for Holden. Even though Lily got Damian a job at Winters, she hasn't extended that same courtesy to Holden, so it looks like he'll be unemployed. But loyal to his friend, Damian tries to get Holden a new role at a new company in Genoa City. After sharing the firing news with Lily, Audra and Nate, Damian gets the idea to pitch Holden to Audra. Damian surmises that Holden could be a great employee for Audra at her new business, Vibrante. Of course, Audra gets a bit cagey about the idea. She even makes excuses why Holden won't be a good fit. However, Damian counters that Holden is a great employee. With all that being said, we have a feeling that Holden has no intention of returning to LA, at least not in the foreseeable future. The suave and vesper-drinking newcomer probably plans to stick around in Genoa City, but he will need a new job. If we had to guess, he'll land at one of three companies. First, we can't rule out the possibility that Audra will reluctantly offer Holden a position at Vibrante. While she obviously has some residual feelings for him and rather not work so closely together, we think she'll come to realize that if she pushes too hard against the idea, Lily and Nate may grow to suspect she doesn't want to partner with him because they still share a romantic connection she's trying to deny. So, rather than give Lily more ammunition not to trust her, Audra will bite the bullet and hire Holden. If Holden doesn't wind up at Vibrante, our next best guess is Newman Enterprises. Holden may not know a ton about Aristotle, but he's worked at Aristotle's companies. Therefore, Victor (Eric Braeden) may see Holden as an asset in this bubbling war with the mystery tycoon. Plus, with a glowing recommendation from Claire, Victor may be willing to give Holden a trial run. It should also be noted that we've always gotten the vibe that Holden is willing to play in those grey areas, and with Michael (Christian LeBlanc) no longer working for The Mustache, he may be able to use Holden's unique abilities. Now, if Holden doesn't find a home at Vibrante or Newman Enterprises, then perhaps Holden will take his talents to Chancellor with Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). It bears repeating that Nikki could truly use some more assistance in the executive suite at the huge corporation. Yes, she has Claire working for her, but a company this size likely needs some more executive experience, especially with Aristotle lurking about to take the business. Again, Claire could put in a good word for Holden with her grandmother. Wherever Holden ends up, we can't wait to see his next act. He's new on the CBS soap, but he's intriguing to watch. New episodes of The Young and the Restless air weekdays on CBS. Episodes become available to stream on Paramount Plus the next day.
