'These pastel underwear sets made me feel sexy after a breakup'

Daily Mirror12-05-2025

Nothing says 'new chapter' like a new lacy bra and knickers from a female-founded brand
Breakups are never easy - but this time around, I decided to flip the narrative. Instead of wallowing, I saw mine as a new lease on life. I was excited to rediscover my independence, lean into the confidence I'd let slip, and most importantly, feel sexy for myself again.
And if there's one sure fire way to do that, a brand new matching underwear set is top of my list. There's just something about slipping into a fresh bralette and knickers that makes me want to strut down the street with a girl power playlist blasting in my headphones.
So, in the spirit of self-love, I picked up two new £40 sets from Lemonade Dolls - a female-founded bound all about empowering women through lingerie that's as comfy as it is confidence-boosting. The pieces are designed for real bodies, with sizes and style to suit everyone - including fuller busts.
I opted for two sets from the brand's dreamy new spring collection: a lace bralette and Brazilian pants in soft green and blue, and another identical set in butter yellow and pink. As a pastel lover, these were made for me - but they've also pushed me out of usual comfort zone (goodbye, M&S neutrals).

When they arrived, I admit, I was a little hesitant at first. The bralette is non-wired and I worried it wouldn't give me much shape or support - especially as a 34C. But the fit surprised me; it offered just enough of a boost to give me cleavage, while still feeling comfortable and perky. Plus, it didn't come with the digging or pinching that sometimes comes with underwire bras.
If underwired bra is preffered, though, Boux Avenue has lots of cute designs. This floral sheer bra, for instance, has wired support and is a gorgeous pick for spring.
Bluebella is also a great choice for underwear, with a wide range of colours and designs available. I love this wired bra with a soft purple hue - although some sizes are already sold out.
The Lemonade Dolls knickers were a dream too - comfy, well-made and super soft. The lace didn't itch or feel scratchy - instead, it felt smooth against my skin and like something I could wear all day without a second thought.
The colourways are also worth a mention. The mix of hues in each set is so pretty and mood-lifting, it instantly made me feel like spring had arrived.
But more than they looked or felt, what really stood out was how they made me feel. I wore one of the sets under a short skirt, boots and a baggy T-shirt for a night out, with my hair and makeup done - and even though no one could see what was underneath, it gave me the biggest confidence boost.
So, for those navigating a breakup - a good lingerie set goes a long way. The new spring collection from Lemonade Dolls is available to shop here.
