On3 college football expert excited about Oklahoma Sooners offense
The Oklahoma Sooners have made several significant additions through the transfer portal this offseason on both sides of the ball. But one of the spring portal additions has a chance to be one of the most impactful in the SEC in 2025, and that's the move to bring in Jaydn Ott.
Ott came to Oklahoma from Cal, where he amassed 3,333 total yards of offense and 30 touchdowns during his career with the Golden Bears. That came despite playing with an injury throughout the 2024 season, which led to the lowest yardage total of his collegiate career. Now, in a backfield that features the other big splash this offseason, John Mateer, OU has a dynamic duo to lead their offense in 2025.
It's an addition that has On3 college football analyst J.D. PicKell fired up about what Oklahoma's offense can be in 2025.
"The math just got harder defending Oklahoma," PicKell started. "Because you think about John Mateer... Does some stuff downfield, obviously, plus what he can do with his legs. Javonnie Gibson, when he gets healthy, he's a tremendous threat for them. All spring long, he was, at least until he got dinged up. Deion Burks, he's healthy, he's a dawg for you. You go down the list, there's a lot of dudes to defend here in the pass game themselves, plus John Mateer with his legs. Now you add in a guy like Jaydn Ott and all his production he had at Cal a year ago, plus you can throw him the football. The math is tough. The to-do list to defend Oklahoma as an offense just keeps on getting longer to the point where if you're a defense, I don't know how you check all the boxes."
Ott's abilities out of the backfield will create opportunities for John Mateer. Both in the traditional passing game and at the mesh point in the read-option game. Teams will have to account for Ott when Mateer appears to be handing it off. Because if they don't, Ott could be off to the races and create a big play on the ground. But if teams overplay Ott in the read-option game or run-pass option, Mateer will get more room to work. And he's proven capable of creating big plays on the ground and through the air.
The Sooners have made a number of impact additions on offense this season but need their offensive line to be better than it was in 2024 for it all to come together. If it does, the Sooners could position themselves to be a Collge Football Playoff contender in 2025.

Florida baseball adds former UCF right-handed pitcher via NCAA transfer portal Florida baseball added another player through the NCAA transfer portal with the addition of former UCF Knights right-handed pitcher Russell Sandefer, according to Jacob Rudner of Baseball America. Clemson makes a huge move in the transfer portal landing shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger

Clemson makes a huge move in the transfer portal landing shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger Clemson baseball has landed one of its first portal additions of the offseason. App State shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger has committed to the Tigers after making a visit to campus on Thursday, according to multiple sources. The standout freshman brings immediate impact potential after an impressive debut season in Boone. Lichtenberger was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year in 2025, hitting .341 with 13 doubles, three home runs, two triples and 44 RBIs. He recorded 24 multi-hit games, reached base in 46 of 52 regular-season contests—including the first 34 games of the year—and also swiped seven bases in nine attempts. His 70 hits ranked among the top 10 in the conference. With Andrew Ciufo exhausting his eligibility, Clemson had a clear need at shortstop heading into next season. While incoming freshman Dax Kilby is a highly regarded option, there's a strong chance he's selected in July's MLB Draft, potentially opening the door for Lichtenberger to step into a starting role right away. How ESPN's Football Power Index ranks Auburn's 2025 opponents

How ESPN's Football Power Index ranks Auburn's 2025 opponents Half of Auburn's 2025 opponents begin the season ranked in the top 25 of ESPN's Football Power Index rankings. For anyone in the SEC, the schedule is always a grueling one. Despite the conference not having a national championship in the last two seasons, the league is still regarded by most as the best in college football. The Auburn schedule for 2025 is a tough one, but it is also a manageable one. The conference schedule is the same as 2024 except the home and away portion is flipped. The Tigers add Baylor, Ball State, South Alabama, and Mercer to the schedule. This week ESPN released their Football Power Index rankings, and Auburn ranks No. 14 in the country. The FPI gives Auburn a win prediction of 7.5 games with a 21.8% chance of making the College Football Playoff. Eight wins would be a huge improvement after the previous four seasons, but is it enough for Hugh Freeze? Time will only tell on that discussion. The schedule of opponents will also go a long way in determining the final record. Auburn will be playing good teams most weeks. The opener versus Baylor will be important, and a 1-0 start is pivotal. The FPI is projecting the Bears to go 7-5 this upcoming season and place sixth in the Big 12. Baylor closed out the regular season with six consecutive wins before losing the LSU in their bowl game. They finished 8-5 and will be looking to continue their 2024 momentum. Auburn will host the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the FPI rankings this season in Alabama and Georgia. Both teams are projected to win ten games and play in the College Football Playoff. Auburn has not beaten the Crimson Tide since 2019, and it has been even longer since they beat the Bulldogs. The last win over Georgia was in 2017. Auburn will have a tricky two-game stretch early in the season when they visit Oklahoma and Texas A&M in back-to-back weeks. The Sooners are looking to be more competitive this season and FPI has projected them at seven wins. The Aggies win total is projected at eight wins, and they should be a team in the College Football Playoff discussion. The road trip to Norman, Oklahoma could be an emotional game. Quarterback Jackson Arnold will be looking to have a big game versus his former team. Here is a look at Auburn's schedule, broken down by ESPN FPI ranking: Oct. 11 vs. Georgia (No. 2) Nov. 29 vs. Alabama (No. 3) Sept. 27 at Texas A&M (No. 8) Sept. 20 at Oklahoma (No. 16) Oct. 25 at Arkansas (No. 22) Oct. 18 vs. Missouri (No. 23) Aug. 28 at Baylor (No. 33) Nov. 1 vs. Kentucky (No. 34) Nov. 8 at Vanderbilt (No. 56) Sept. 13 vs. South Alabama (No. 83) Sept. 6 vs. Ball State (No. 132) Nov. 22 vs. Mercer (FCS-N/A) Contact/Follow us @TheAuburnWire on X (Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Auburn news, notes, and opinions.
