LOUIS and HINTON, West Virginia, June 17, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PracticeLink, the nation's most trusted physician recruitment resource and home of the leading online physician job board, is proud to announce the recipients of its inaugural First Practice Fund, a biannual scholarship program designed to provide financial support to future healthcare leaders.
Launched on National Doctors' Day, the First Practice Fund received an overwhelming response in its debut year, with hundreds of applicants sharing their powerful personal stories and professional aspirations.
After careful evaluation, six extraordinary individuals have been selected to receive a $2,500 scholarship, one from each of the program's six focus categories, which included Internal Medicine, Hospital-based Medicine, Primary Care, Rural Medicine, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers.
Spring 2025 First Practice Fund Recipients:
Bryan Bui, DO
Alejandro Nieto Dominguez, MD
Sarah Eichinger, DO
Margaret Giggey
Dilpreet Singh, MD
Jill Wenger, PA
Among the recipients is Dr. Sarah Eichinger, who chose to divide her residency training between two hospitals to better serve underserved communities and Jill Wenger, PA, who left behind a successful career as a massage therapist to pursue her calling in neurodegenerative care, driven by a desire to better support patients living with these challenging conditions.
Recipients also include Dr. Bryan Bui, whose commitment to diversity and equity has been a cornerstone of his medical training. 'The First-Practice Fund Scholarship speaks directly to my experiences and aspirations,' said Dr. Bui. 'Financial support has always been a limiting factor in my education. Virta Health Selected by CMS to Join National Health Tech Ecosystem Innovating Treatment of Chronic Metabolic Disease

Partnership to drive data-driven, coordinated care for Americans on Medicare DENVER, July 30, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Virta Health, a leader in sustainable weight loss and diabetes reversal, announced today its selection by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to join the newly launched Health Tech Ecosystem Initiative. As one of a small group of trusted early adopters, Virta is proud to help lead a new era of digital innovation and interoperability to better serve Americans living with chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes, particularly those on Medicare. Under the leadership of CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Health Tech Ecosystem is a public-private partnership designed to accelerate modern technology adoption in healthcare. The initiative supports a voluntary, standards-based digital health environment, bringing together apps, EHRs, and providers to integrate with CMS Aligned Networks, with the end goal being the delivery of secure, user-centered, connected tools that provide real-world value to patients and providers. Virta will participate within the initiative's Diabetes & Obesity Prevention and Management pillar, one of three priority areas, bringing its expertise and clinically proven approach to reversing chronic metabolic diseases in older Americans. As part of its pledge, Virta will explore the use of real clinical data from CMS Aligned Networks for personalized support, and actively engage in the Health Tech Ecosystem working group to define the technical and functional framework alongside CMS and other early adopters. Virta also shares the goal of showcasing meaningful progress by early 2026, in alignment with evolving technical specifications. "Being selected by CMS for this critical initiative is both an honor and a responsibility," said Sami Inkinen, Co-founder and CEO of Virta Health. "Tens of millions of Medicare beneficiaries are living with chronic metabolic conditions that are reversible—not just manageable. This effort to unleash the full power of data-driven care is a major step toward transforming health outcomes and lowering tax payer costs at scale, and is directly aligned with our mission to reverse type 2 diabetes and obesity in one billion people." This partnership underscores Virta's commitment to closing the gap between information and action. This commitment will help reduce fragmentation, support provider decision-making, and improve the lives of people most impacted by chronic metabolic disease. About Virta Health: Virta Health is a leader in reversing chronic metabolic disease. Through a combination of precision nutrition, technology, and expert support, Virta empowers members to build longer, healthier lives—while reducing or eliminating the need for medications. Virta partners with the nation's largest employers, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers to improve the health of their members while reducing costs. Trump administration is launching a new private health tracking system with Big Tech's help

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is pushing an initiative for millions of Americans to upload personal health data and medical records on new apps and systems run by private tech companies, promising that will make it easier to access health records and monitor wellness. Leaders from more than 60 companies, including major tech companies such as Google and Amazon, as well as prominent hospital systems like the Cleveland Clinic, will convene at the White House on Wednesday afternoon to discuss what the administration is calling a 'digital health ecosystem." The new system will focus on diabetes and weight management, conversational artificial intelligence that helps patients, and digital tools such as QR codes and apps that register patients for check-ins or track medications. The initiative, spearheaded by an administration that has already freely shared highly personal data about Americans in ways that have tested legal bounds, could put patients' desires for more convenience at their doctor's office on a collision course with their expectations that their medical information be kept private. 'There are enormous ethical and legal concerns,' said Lawrence Gostin, a Georgetown University law professor who specializes in public health. 'Patients across America should be very worried that their medical records are going to be used in ways that harm them and their families.' Officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, in charge of maintaining the system, have said patients will need to opt in for the sharing of their medical records and data, which will be kept secure. Officials say patients will benefit from a system that lets them quickly call up their own records without the hallmark difficulties, such as requiring the use of fax machines to share documents, that have prevented them from doing so in the past. 'We have the tools and information available now to empower patients to improve their outcomes and their healthcare experience,' Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator for CMS, said in a statement Wednesday. Once the system is set up, popular weight loss and fitness subscription service Noom, which has signed onto the initiative, will be able to pull medical records, including labs or tests, of its users into its AI-driven analysis of what might help users lose weight, CEO Geoff Cook told The Associated Press. 'Right now you have a lot of siloed data,' Cook said. Patients who travel across the country for treatment at the Cleveland Clinic often have a hard time obtaining all their medical records from various providers, said the hospital system's CEO, Tomislav Mihaljevic. He said the new system would eliminate that barrier, which sometimes delays treatment or prevents doctors from making an accurate diagnosis because they do not have a full view of a patient's medical history. Having seamless access to health app data, such as what patients are eating or how much they are exercising, will also help doctors manage obesity and other chronic diseases, Mihaljevic said. 'These apps give us insight about what's happening with the patient's health outside of the physician's office,' he said. CMS will also recommend a list of apps on that are designed to help people manage chronic diseases, as well as help them select health care providers and insurance plans. Digital privacy advocates are skeptical that patients will be able to count on their data being stored securely. The federal government has done little to regulate health apps or telehealth programs, said Jeffrey Chester at the Center for Digital Democracy. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and those within his circle have pushed for more technology in health care, advocating for wearable devices that monitor wellness and telehealth. Kennedy also sought to collect more data from Americans' medical records, which he has previously said he wants to use to study autism and vaccine safety. Kennedy has filled the agency with staffers who have a history of working at or running health technology startups and businesses. 'This scheme is an open door for the further use and monetization of sensitive and personal health information,' Chester said. Amanda Seitz, The Associated Press

Datavant Commits to CMS Aligned Network Framework to Accelerate Interoperability and Improve Secure Patient Record Exchange

NEW YORK, July 30, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Datavant, the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare, today announced its commitment to become a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Aligned Network. As part of this commitment, Datavant is accelerating initiatives already underway to make health information compliantly accessible, secure, and actionable. "The CMS Health Tech Ecosystem Framework reinforces what we at Datavant believe: every healthcare decision should be powered by the right data, at the right time, in the right format," said Datavant CEO, Kyle Armbrester. "Achieving true interoperability is difficult - but we will be able to overcome obstacles faster when we work together." Datavant has built the largest, most diverse health data exchange network in the U.S., working with more than 80,000 hospitals and clinics, every health insurance company in the U.S., 18 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, and more than 300 real-world data partners. The Company's privacy-preserving technologies and interoperability solutions directly support CMS' goals of modernizing health data exchange while maintaining the highest standards of compliance-by-design and data integrity. "The harsh truth is that healthcare today is running on decades-old technology systems and regulations. We cannot manage the vastness and complexity of health information today using yesterday's technology and practices. While there is a lot of work to do to bridge the gaps between disparate data sources to enable secure, compliant, and efficient use of health information for decision-making, this collective commitment is an essential step in the right direction. We look forward to building on our pledge and working with the Administration and companies across the industry to expand, innovate, and enable the compliant use of data to improve health outcomes," added Armbrester. About Datavant Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare. With a mission to make the world's health data secure, accessible, and actionable, Datavant works with payers, providers, life sciences, legal and insurance clients globally to accelerate insights. Datavant enables more than 60 million healthcare records to move between thousands of organizations across the healthcare ecosystem, more than 80,000 hospitals and clinics, 75% of the 100 largest health systems, and 300+ real-world data partners.
