The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) has donated $16,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF), following the sale of its campaign posters from the 2025 General Election.
The posters, which went on sale for $20 each, initially raised $7,000 and a cheque for the amount was presented to STSPMF general manager Lau Hui Ling at the party's headquarters in Changi Road by SDA chairman Desmond Lim and secretary-general Abu Mohamed on May 25.
On May 26, Mr Lim announced on his personal Facebook account that another $1,000 was raised, and that he would personally match the total sum of $8,000 dollar-for-dollar, thus bringing the total donation to $16,000.
At the event, Mr Lim said his belief that all children deserve support and encouragement motivated SDA to donate funds raised from the sale of its campaign posters to STSPMF.
He separately made a personal donation of $5,000 to Willing Hearts, a local charity that provides free meals to the needy.
An STSPMF spokesman thanked SDA for its fund-raising efforts, and Mr Lim for his personal donation. 'We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to this charitable initiative in support of our cause to help children and youth in need.'
This is the second time that SDA has donated proceeds from its election poster sales to STSPMF. In 2020, it donated $10,000 to the fund following that year's general election.
STSPMF is a community project initiated by ST, and assists some 10,000 children and youth from low-income families each year with their school-related expenses.
In GE2025, SDA garnered 32.32 per cent of the vote against PAP's 67.68 per cent in Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.

REUTERS/Thomas Peter Russian attacks kill five in Zaporizhzhia, injure several in Kharkiv, regional officials say Russian shelling and air attacks killed five people outside the southeastern Ukraine city of Zaporizhzhia, while a drone attack on the northeast region of Sumy injured at least six early on Monday, including two children, regional officials said. Ivan Fedorov, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said three women died in a series of Russian shelling incidents targeting the village of Ternuvate, east of Zaporizhzhia late on Sunday. A shop and several homes were badly damaged. A man died in a nearby district in a Russian strike by a guided aerial bomb, Fedorov said. A total of nine people were injured in the Russian attacks and a private home was destroyed. Two children were among those injured in a Russian drone attack on the Sumy region, Oleh Sinehubov, the governor of the region, said on Monday on Telegram. "A 7-year-old boy is among the victims," Sinehubov said. He added that several buildings throughout the regions were damaged. The attacks come as both Russia and Ukraine are about to meet for a round of peace talks, trying to find a way to end the war that Russia launched with a full-scale invasion on its smaller neighbour more than three years ago. Ukraine drone attacks on Russia spark fires, disrupt traffic, officials say

Ukraine's overnight drone attacks on Russia's Kursk and Voronezh regions sparked residential fires and disrupted traffic on a major highway, regional officials said early on Monday. Russian air defence units destroyed a total of 162 Ukrainian drones overnight, downing 57 of the air weapons over the Kursk region that borders Ukraine. Falling debris from destroyed drones in the Kursk region sparked fires at several houses and damaged private apartments, acting governor of the region, Alexander Khinshtein, said on the Telegram messaging app. In the southern Russian region of Voronezh, where Russian air units destroyed 16 Ukrainian drones, regional governor Alexander Gusev said drone debris cut through power lines which fell on the M-4, a major expressway. A small section of the highway, which links the cities of Moscow, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar, was closed, Gusev said. Falling drone debris also damaged the facade of several houses, he added on Telegram. There were no injuries reported, the governors of the regions said. The attacks come as both Russia and Ukraine are about to meet for a round of peace talks, trying to find a way to end the war that Russia launched with a full-scale invasion on its smaller neighbour more than three years ago. Lavrov, Rubio discuss settlement of war in Ukraine, upcoming talks, say media reports

FILE PHOTO: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov speaks during a press conference following a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Moscow, Russia, May 27, 2025. Pavel Bednyakov/Pool via REUTERS/File Photo Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed on Sunday prospects for settling the conflict in Ukraine and Russia-Ukraine talks set for Monday in Turkey. 'The situation linked to the Ukraine crisis was discussed,' the ministry said in a statement on its website. 'S.V. Lavrov and M. Rubio also exchanged views on various initiatives concerning a settlement of the Ukraine crisis, including plans to resume direct Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul on June 2.' The US State Department, which noted the call was at Russia's request, said Rubio reiterated US President Donald Trump's call for continued direct talks between Russia and Ukraine to achieve 'a lasting peace'. The ministry also said during the conversation that Rubio expressed condolences over deaths that occurred when two bridges were blown up in separate Russian regions bordering Ukraine. 'It was stressed on the Russian side that competent bodies will proceed with a thorough investigation and the results will be published. The guilty parties will be identified and will without doubt be subject to a worthy punishment.' Russian officials said at least seven people were killed and 69 injured when the two bridges were blown up on Saturday.
