The deal, worth $165 million, keeps Doncic in Los Angeles for three more years before he is due for a five-year, $400 million-plus deal in 2028, according to The Athletic. While this was a monumental day for the Lakers, who traded for Doncic in February, there was one player noticeably absent at Doncic's press conference. Four-time NBA MVP LeBron James was not among the players photographed in attendance on Saturday NBA Fans Had Plenty of Thoughts After Noticing LeBron James' Lack of Attendance In a photo shared to X, players such as Maxi Kleber, Marcus Smart, Gabe Vincent, Deandre Ayton and Rui Hachimura were seen smiling alongside Doncic. While it was a big day for Doncic and the Lakers, many fans flooded to the comment section to call out James. "Except LeBron," pointed out one fan. "Ofc LeBron isn't there, he to busy training at the clippers facility," joked another. "While lebron playing golf in fog," said another. "no bron," asked a fourth. "LeDrama notably absent…Shocker," commented another. Why Was LeBron James Not at Luka Doncic's Contract Extension Press Conference? While Austin Reaves also wasn't pictured along with a handful of other players, James' absence spoke volumes on how this offseason has gone for him and the Lakers. It's unclear what course he was playing, but James shared multiple videos of himself on a golf course drenched in fog. James has also yet to comment on Doncic's extension to the media or even acknowledge it on social media. LeBron James Trade Rumors In June, James' agent Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania that the Lakers seemed to have a different mindset than the 40-year-old star. "LeBron wants to compete for a championship," Paul told ESPN. "He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career." Following this comment, James was spotted at the Cleveland Cavaliers' facility on July 4. James did address the photo upon its virality, expressing that he lives in Cleveland part-time. However, this wasn't the only time he was spotted working out at a facility associated with another team. This past week, he shared photos on Instagram of himself working out in front of the Los Angeles Clippers logo. While it was later confirmed that Klutch Sports now owns the facility, which used to belong to the Clippers, it's hard to imagine that James wasn't hoping to elicit some sort of reaction with the photos. What's Next for LeBron James? It's unclear if James actually wants to be traded or is just toying with the Lakers, but for the first time in his career, he doesn't really have any leverage. He opted into his $52.6 million player option in June, which makes his asking price via a trade or buyout extremely unreasonable. In addition to the fact that he chose to pick up the option, the Lakers don't have to trade him if they don't want to. Not to mention, ESPN's Bobby Marks reported one day after he picked up his option that there isn't a market for the aging star. So, whether he likes it or not, it appears James will continue to be a Laker. Wide receiver Keenan Allen's visit with the Chargers on Friday ended without him signing a contract to rejoin his first NFL team, but it sounds like the door remains open to a deal. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday that the visit with Allen "went well" and suggested that the team will keep the lines of communication open with the wideout. "Dating back from when I first took the job, competitors welcome at the Los Angeles Chargers, and the interest has always been there with Keenan," Harbaugh said, via Daniel Popper of Allen had 904 catches for 10,530 yards and 59 touchdowns during 11 seasons with the Chargers. He was traded to the Bears last year and became a free agent in March.

Nate Landman shaping up to be Rams' latest quality find at inside linebacker
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nate Landman is shaping up to be exactly what the Los Angeles Rams want at inside linebacker. He has settled in well as an effective communicator and good teammate and looks like a steady contributor on the field. The 26-year-old Landman has been one of the standouts of training camp for the Rams after signing a one-year contract for the veteran minimum salary in March, the kind of cost-effective find at the position that has become something of a trademark during Sean McVay's head coaching tenure in Los Angeles. 'I think there's some players that maybe the rest of the league doesn't value, that we value, and we kind of know about inside,' McVay said. 'I think we've had some success with guys that are unheralded.' Outside of one season with six-time All-Pro Bobby Wagner in the middle of the defense in 2022, the Rams in McVay's eight-plus years have tended to employ low-cost options, typically developed from within the organization. That was the case a year ago when undrafted free agent Omar Speights emerged in camp, making it palatable to trade starter Ernest Jones to the Tennessee Titans in the preseason. Jones was a third-round pick of the Rams in 2021 and quickly emerged as a productive player, starting 33 games in three seasons and making 320 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss and three interceptions. But with potential contract discontent looming for Jones last summer and a possible replacement in Speights emerging, Los Angeles chose to move on rather than commit the money Jones was seeking. The Rams made it through last season with Speights and veterans Christian Rozeboom and Troy Reeder manning the inside linebacker spots. Rozeboom signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract to join the Carolina Panthers in free agency after leading the Rams with 135 total tackles, which set the stage for Landman's arrival. Landman already had familiarity with some elements of the Rams' defensive structure from his time playing for the Atlanta Falcons. Landman worked last season under then-defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake, who is now a senior defensive assistant for Los Angeles, and head coach Raheem Morris. 'He practices the right way, a great communicator, fantastic teammate,' safety Quentin Lake said of Landman. 'Great addition for us, and I can't wait to see what he's going to do during the season as well.' Landman started 23 games the past two seasons for the Falcons, making 191 tackles, three forced fumbles and one interception in that span. He will be operating behind a formidable defensive line, which includes five top-90 picks from the past three drafts and key free agent addition Poona Ford, meaning Landman should be in position to make plays. It didn't take long for Landman to make an impression, delivering several audibly impressive hits when the Rams started working in pads. 'You can hear it, you can feel it,' McVay said. 'He's one of those guys.' What has also stood out is Landman's knack for knocking the ball loose, drawing comparisons to defensive back Charles Tillman and his 'peanut punch' to force fumbles. Landman said his proficiency comes from being able to read the situation, especially because he is more adept at using his right hand to attack the ballcarrier. 'Really, it's knowing when your opportunity is to go attack the football without sacrificing the integrity of the tackle,' Landman said. Working effectively alongside Speights, whom McVay expects to make significant improvements in his second season, Landman puts the Rams in position to have another efficient starting pair at inside linebacker. 'He's a glue guy,' defensive coordinator Chris Shula said. 'He can organize the whole defense, he can put a lot on his plate, he's always in the right spot, and you just feel how physical he is.' ___ AP NFL:
