Alliance Bank posts record year with net profit RM197.49mil, 2nd interim div of 9.9c/share
Alliance Bank group CEO Kellee Kam
KUALA LUMPUR: Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd has posted a record financial year, which affirms the success of its Acceler8 strategy and reinforces the longer-term growth trajectory, said group CEO Kellee Kam.
"We remain focused on sustainable growth and creating long-term value for all our stakeholders,' said Kam in a statement announcing the bank's latest quarterly result.
In its latest quarterly result (4QFY25), Alliance Bank recorded a net profit of RM197.49mil, up from RM177.74mil in the year-ago quarter, for an improved earnings per share of 12.76 sen against 11.48 sen previously.
The bank reported revenue of RM563.24mil during the quarter, compared to RM516.17mil in 4QFY24.
This brought the banks' full-year net profit to a record high of RM750.73mil, against RM690.48mil in FY24, and revenue also to a historical high of RM2.27bil from RM2.02bil in the previous year.
For its performance, Alliance Bank proposed a second interim dividend of 9.9 sen per share, payable on June 26, 2025, which brings its total payout in FY25 to 19.4 sen.
According to the statement, the bank's revenue growth was supported by improvements in both net interest income (NII) and non-interest income (NOII).
NII rose 13.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM1.95bil driven
primarily by higher loan volumes. Net interest margin stood at 2.45%.
NOII increased by 7.7% y-o-y to RM323.4mil, mainly due to higher foreign exchange sales and trade fees, wealth management income (excluding the one-time bancassurance business model fee recognised in FY24), and treasury and investment income.
The cost-to-income ratio stood at 48% as the bank continued its investments in technology and people.
Alliance Bank said its total gross loans expanded 12% y-o-y to RM62.4bil with growth recorded across all segments. The current account savings account (Casa) ratio, meanwhile, stood at 41%, supporte by a 14.7% y-o-y increase in customer deposits.

Alliance Bank steady on robust loans, healthy NIM
PETALING JAYA: CIMB Research is maintaining its 'buy' call on Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd with an unchanged target price of RM4.80. It stated that the lender's key catalysts include robust loan growth and a healthy net interest margin or NIM. In a report to clients, the research house said its target price of RM4.80 (ex-rights basis) was based on a return on equity (ROE) of 9.7% and a fair price-to-book value of one times to the lender's financial year ending March 31, 2026 (FY26). The bank's other key catalysts include benign credit costs and a potential merger, CIMB Research said. The research house said the bank's downside risks include higher-than-expected credit costs and higher cost of funds. In the report, it also noted that Alliance Bank had announced its rights issue price fixed at RM3.33. The entitlement basis is two rights shares for every 17 existing shares. 'These are in line with our expectations. 'The total funding raised from the rights issue of RM606.5mil is consistent with the earlier indicative amount of RM600mil. 'Overall, there were no major surprises in the latest rights issue announcement,' the research house said. CIMB Research said the bank announced in March a renounceable rights issue to raise gross proceeds of RM600mil with a rights issue price of RM4.20 per rights share (reflecting a discount of approximately 20% to the then-market price of RM5.09), with an entitlement basis of three rights shares for every 32 shares. The research house reiterated that the change was in line with its expectations and that the latest announcement did not come as a surprise, and was in line with its earlier estimate that the rights price may have to be adjusted down, owing to the drop in Alliance Bank's share price. CIMB Research estimated that the rights price might have to be revised down to RM3.20 (from the earlier indicative RM4.20) if set at a 20% discount to the current share price, with the number of rights increased to 186 million from the earlier indicative 145.1 million. This is based on an estimated revised entitlement of four rights shares for every 32 shares. The research house pointed out that Alliance Bank's key targets for FY26 included an ROE of more than 10% post rights issue, loan growth of between 8% and 10%, net interest margin of between 2.40% and 2.45%, net credit cost of between 30 and 35 basis points, cost-to- income ratio of 48%, and a dividend payout ratio of 40% to 50%.

Banking sector seen trading sideways amid tariff incertainty: CIMB Securities
KUALA LUMPUR: The banking sector is likely to trade sideways in the near term as investors await greater clarity on tariff developments, said CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd. The firm has maintained its "Neutral" stance on the sector but kept its "Buy" calls on Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd (ABMB), Public Bank Bhd (PBB), and RHB Bank Bhd, citing appealing dividend yields at current valuations. "Key upside risks include lower credit costs, stronger net interest margins, and potential bond gains from non-interest income. "Conversely, downside risks include a higher-than-expected cost of funds, liquidity outflows, and deterioration in asset quality," it said in a note. According to CIMB Securities, loan applications grew 10.1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in April 2025, from 4.4 per cent YoY in March. Approved loans expanded 8.8 per cent YoY in April compared with 9.6 per cent YoY in March. "Leading loan indicators were driven mainly by the corporate segment, specifically the purchase of fixed assets (other than land and buildings), construction, and working capital segments. "There may be an element of front-loading in the numbers, as Malaysia's export growth accelerated markedly to 16.4 per cent YoY in April, driven by the 90-day pause in tariffs," it added. Meanwhile, CIMB Securities noted that loan growth slipped marginally to 5.1 per cent YoY in April, compared with 5.2 per cent YoY in March. This was supported by the auto, residential, and non-residential mortgage segments. Deposit growth rose to 3.8 per cent YoY in April from 3.0 per cent YoY in March owing to stronger current account and savings account (CASA) deposit growth of 4.5 per cent YoY in April. Business deposit growth was higher at 3.1 per cent in April after a flattish 0.7 per cent YoY rate in March but remains lower than the 6–9 per cent YoY growth recorded in 1H24. The loan-to-deposit ratio eased slightly to 87.4 per cent in April from 87.6 per cent in March. Furthermore, gross impaired loans increased 0.7 per cent or RM216.4 million, month-on-month (MoM) in April, mainly driven by the household segments. The gross impaired loans ratio was stable at 1.43 per cent in April compared to 1.42 per cent in March, while loan loss coverage remained high at 91.0 per cent in April from 91.2 per cent in March.
