Jacksonville police make arrest in East Arlington beauty store shoplifting case where owner died
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the December 2024 shoplifting case at an East Arlington beauty store where the owner was killed.
David Pulliam Jr., 29, remained in the Duval County jail Thursday morning on $100,000 bond. He was arrested on April 10, according to jail records. He's facing charges of petit theft and resisting while committing theft.

Police said Pulliam stole $289 worth of merchandise from Beauty Max, 11900 Atlantic Blvd., and ran out of the store to a car that was waiting for him.
The owner of the store, Ilson Kim, 64, ran after the shoplifter who got into a car that was waiting for him in the parking lot of the Kernan Village shopping center.
Kim was runover and died from her injuries.
Another woman, Tashina Dobbins, 41, was arrested two weeks later and charged with felony petit theft. She's now wanted after missing her court date Monday. A Duval County judge has issued a warrant for her arrest, according to court records.

Inmate dies at Jacksonville hospital before making it to Duval County Jail, police say
An inmate died at a hospital while in police custody before he made it to the Duval County Jail, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Adam Christopher Torrens, 59, was arrested on May 17 in Clay County on a violation of probation warrant out of Duval County, JSO said. JSO said Torrens' violation of probation stemmed from his local arrest on February 18, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (domestic). While in Clay County Sheriff's Office custody, Torrens was being treated at a hospital in Clay County. Torrens remained at the Jacksonville hospital until Tuesday, when he died. 2 Jacksonville Fire Chief applicants have been the subject of Action News Jax investigations
As the City of Jacksonville looks to replace outgoing Fire Chief Keith Powers, Action News Jax has learned some of those applying have been the subject of controversy in recent years. The 17 candidates in the running to become the next chief of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department come with a combined total of more than 330 years of fire experience. The diverse slate of applicants includes educational backgrounds ranging from bachelor's to master's and even two doctoral degrees. Five are military veterans. Their fire experience is equally diverse, with one candidate holding the position of a rank-and-file firefighter, while others currently serve in top-level positions like District, Division, and Battalion Chief. 'We'll be interviewing those folks that we feel are most qualified to do the job and we'll move on from there,' Mayor Donna Deegan said Tuesday. Deegan will be tasked with appointing the new Chief. In 2023, she announced a series of ten new leadership appointments at JFRD, along with a new program aimed at growing the next generation of leadership from within the department. 'Safety is job one and I think Chief Powers has done an amazing job with that over the years,' Deegan said. But two of the current candidates have been the subject of Action News Jax investigations. JFRD Lieutenant Todd Smith faced sexual harassment claims during his time as Chief of Emergency Preparedness in 2022. He resigned from his post days after Action News Jax broke the story in 2023. [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Candidate and current Fire District Chief Bryon Iveson also made headlines in April when Action News Jax revealed he faced an internal investigation and had been reassigned to desk duty after allegedly forcing a Muslim firefighter to break his Ramadan fast. When asked about the controversy surrounding the two applicants, the Mayor told us she'll be looking for a candidate that can unite the community. 'We need to pick somebody that will bring this community together, but also make sure that it is safe,' Deegan said. The mayor's pick will serve as Acting Chief as their appointment moves through the council confirmation process. Man breaks in and kills neighbor to steal his Xbox a second time, FL cops say
A man stole his neighbor's Xbox, then when his neighbor bought a new Xbox, he broke in again, killed him and stole his new Xbox, Florida authorities said. James Conyers, 45, was convicted of second-degree murder and dealing in stolen property, and now he's been sentenced to life in prison, Duval County records show. His attorney declined to comment to McClatchy News on June 3. The investigation began when Terrill Trumble, 28, didn't show up to work July 24, 2023, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He wasn't answering his door, but one of his friends noticed his back door was unlocked, police wrote in an arrest report. When he went inside, he found Trumble dead on the bathroom floor with a gunshot wound to the head, and his new Xbox had disappeared, according to police. Neighbors at the apartment complex said Trumble had ongoing issues with Conyers, adding Conyers had 'bragged' about breaking into Trumble's apartment and stealing his Xbox and a shotgun a month earlier, according to police. Trumble bought a new Xbox, but on July 23, 2023, Conyers' girlfriend reported that he had disappeared from their apartment with her gun and her vehicle, officers said. He came back later that day but refused to explain why he had taken her gun, she told officers, according to the report. The next day, Trumble was found dead, police said. Conyers denied killing Trumble, saying they were friends and had no issues, but detectives said they found out someone had sold both of Trumble's stolen Xboxes to a gaming store. Trumble's new Xbox was sold to the store hours after he was killed, investigators said. Phone records showed Conyers was in the same area of the store when the Xboxes were sold, and he had looked up the store online, police said. The bullet used to kill Trumble was fired from Conyers' girlfriend's gun, investigators said. Detectives said they learned Conyers had previously been convicted of manslaughter in South Carolina from a similar incident in which Conyers' friend was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. He was prohibited from possessing a firearm. A jury found Conyers guilty in April, prosecutors announced.
