Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are forced to move Venice wedding party venue due to massive protests from locals

Daily Mail5 hours ago

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and bride-to-be Lauren Sanchez 's have been forced to change one of the venues for their $48million Venice wedding because of 'rising global tensions', it was claimed today.
Their nuptials have already attracted huge controversy, with protests by locals angry at the couple for 'taking over the city' for the planned three day festivities.
A team of former U.S. marines has already been hired to provide security for the event by Bezos, which is due to take place over three days from June 26 in the iconic lagoon city.
The original plan was for a huge party at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia on Saturday night - but it has now been moved to another venue in the Arsenale area of the city, according to local media.
Il Gazzettino said the days leading to wedding would be 'tension filled' and the move to the venue was due to it being 'easier to control' as large scale protests are expected.
But they also added 'the winds of war and rising global tensions between the U.S. and Iran ' were also being taken into consideration - there is a large American airbase at Aviano just 50 miles away.
On Tuesday a meeting is due to take place between local authorities and police and security teams to discuss the wedding which has been greeted with fury by many Venetians.
Not welcome: Protesters display a banner reading 'No Space for Bezos!' on the Rialto Bridge
On Monday, Greenpeace activists unfurled a huge banner in St Mark's Square, the iconic heart of Venice, protesting against the wedding.
It showed an image of Bezos face and the slogan: 'If you can rent Venice for your wedding then you can pay more tax.'
Activists from British group 'Everyone Hates Elon' were also involved and said they had carried it out to highlight the 'environmental and social injustice of the wedding'.
One said: 'Bezos encapsulates an economic and social model which is steering us towards collapse.
'All to often now social injustice travels on an equal par with the climate, on one side the arrogance of a few billionaires who have a lifestyle that devastates the planet, the other people who suffer daily from the environment crisis.'
Venice tourism councillor Simone Venturini told DailyMail.com: 'Venice is honored to host a private event like Jeff Bezos's wedding, chosen from destinations around the world for its singular beauty and character.
'This celebration highlights our city's international appeal and its capacity to welcome high-profile events with both discretion and efficiency.
'The objections voiced by a few dozen professional protesters - driven solely by a desire for media attention - do not represent the spirit of Venice; they reflect little more than social envy.
'Venice has always been - and remains - open, welcoming, and respectful, ready to embrace every visitor who honors our city's heritage.'
'Our heartfelt thanks to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez for their decision to donate substantial sums to organisations dedicated to safeguarding and protecting our lagoon.
'Now that's a genuine act of love for the city, unlike those contrived protests'.
Bezos, 61, is the world's third richest person with an estimated with of $221billion and is the founder of Amazon and space tech firm Blue Origin.
Hundreds of high-profile guests including members of the Trump family, Katie Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Kim Kardashian are expected to attend and the wedding will take over the island of San Giorgio opposite the iconic St Mark's Square.
Campaign group No Space for Bezos has organized a huge protest for next Saturday with demonstrators being encouraged to bring googles and inflatables so they can dive into canals and disrupt taxis ferrying guests.
On its social media the group says: 'Jeff Bezos and his clique of super rich people are not welcome in Venice' adding that the city cannot be 'a showcase for the elite'.
Conversely a pro Bezos campaign group called 'Yes, Venice can' has formed in recent days welcoming the wedding for bringing funds and publicity to the city.

My dreams came true when I married my husband, he looks exactly like my celeb crush & is always stopped in the street

A LOVED-UP bride claims her "dreams came true" when she married her Line of Duty lookalike crush - who's constantly stopped in the street by adoring women. Kelsey Willmott has been smitten with Scottish actor Martin Compston who famously played Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in the hit BBC drama, since the first series. 5 5 So when the 30-year-old stumbled across Arron Willmott's profile on Bumble in March 2021 she immediately swiped right, drawn to his brunette locks, facial hair and chiselled jaw line. After chatting on the app for two weeks, the pair met for a walk for their first date, with Kelsey admitting she was initially unaware of how similar the pair locked. But weeks into their fledgling relationship Kelsey was stunned when she suddenly realised why she initially had the hots for the 31-year-old - who was the spitting image of the hunky actor. After dating for three-and-half years they got engaged before getting hitched on May 2 at a stately home in Somerset. As she walked down the aisle towards Arron, Kelsey said it was a "dream come true" as not only was she marrying her "perfect" partner but also a man that looked like Martin Compston. It's not just loved-up Kelsey who's noticed the similarity, with Arron being stopped daily in the street by strangers remarking on the uncanny resemblance. While Kelsey's own friends cheekily commented "only she could marry someone who looks like her celebrity crush" when she shared a video about it on TikTok. Kelsey, from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, said: "We met on Bumble and I made the first move. "I hadn't clicked about the similarities initially but I just knew I liked what I saw. "A few weeks into our dating the penny dropped and I realised he looked so much like him [Martin Compston]. Martin Compston reveals reason why he wears an elastic band on his finger instead of his wedding ring "I'm a big fan of Line of Duty and have watched all the series. I said to him 'you do look like Martin Compston' and when you see it you can't unsee it. "Martin Compston is a big celebrity crush and right up my street. I think subconsciously I 100% swiped on Arron [because he looked like Martin Compston]. "My aunty said to me 'he looks exactly like the man on Line of Duty'. It was something people kept mentioning. "I don't think my parents had really realised my crush on Martin Compston. "I may have said he was 'fit' when watching the programme but you're not constantly going on about it as you think there's no chance. "You could say I got my chance now as I'm with someone who looks exactly like him. 5 5 "I think as Arron has gotten older, he looks more like him as Martin is a bit older than Arron. "When I was walking down the aisle towards him it was surreal. Aaron is physically everything that is my type, but also the person he is as well. "It was like a fairy tale and everything you pictured it to be when you're younger. My dreams came true. "My friends always say I come up smelling of roses because only I could marry someone that looks like my crush." Martin Compston first starred in the lead role of Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott in 2012 when the BBC police drama Line of Duty first aired. The series then returned in 2014 for five more series in which the 5ft 6in actor was seen to continue his star role as a detective in an anti-corruption squad. Kelsey says that Arron is told on a daily basis in public that he looks like Martin Compston, usually by women. She said: "After the TikTok went viral, we were both laughing as it's something we know he looks like and friends and family know. "But when you get strangers saying they can't tell the difference between them, it's crazy. "People have come up to him to tell him he looks really like the guy from Line of Duty. "It's probably girls in the street that have a similar crush on Martin Compston, as awful as that is to think. "They are probably looking at him thinking 'he looks like Martin and is quite good looking'." Arron says he couldn't describe the feeling when he first saw Kelsey walking down the aisle but footage shows him wiping tears from his cheeks in the emotional moment. 5 The 5ft 11in bloke says he is a big Line of Duty fan so doesn't mind the daily comparisons but says he is thankful for being taller than the Scottish actor. Aaron, also from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, said: "I love Line of Duty so it's pretty cool. I don't mind [the comparison] but I'm a little bit taller than him, thank God. "I get told on a daily basis I look like him. When people see me they always think they've seen me before and then the penny drops." After sharing a video on TikTok of photos of Arron next to the Line of Duty star, the post racked up more than 300,000 views, with users apparently stunned by how similar they look. One wrote: "Is this a really bad game of spot the difference, because I am struggling." Another added: "She really said copy and paste."

Rachel Stevens' ex husband Alex Bourne debuts pregnant wife Lily's baby bump - three years after divorcing S Club 7 singer

R' ex husband Alex Bourne has shared the first snap of his pregnant wife Lily's baby bump - three years after his split from the S Club 7 singer. The property mogul, 47, tied the knot with art dealer Lily, 31, at Lime Kiln lodges in East Sussex in February surrounded by their family and friends. And on Monday, Alex took to his Instagram Stories and shared a stunning snap of Lily as she debuted her baby bump during a summer break. In the snap, the art dealer looked radiant while showing off her blossoming baby bump in white summer dress. Lily also took to her Instagram Stories and shared a snap in a white knitted dress of her growing bump along with a sweet snap of Alex. The happy couple, who live in London, have jetted off on holiday for some relaxation in a mystery sun-soaked location. It comes just a month after Lily took to Instagram in a shared post with her new hubby to announce their pregnancy. She shared a carousel of snaps from spring, but two included her growing baby bump. 'A new chapter,' she captioned the snaps - as her baby bump could be seen as she went for a stroll with a bunch of flowers. S Club star Rachel, 46, announced she had separated from her childhood sweetheart, Alex, in July 2022, just one month shy of their 13-year anniversary. Alex and Lily then got engaged last summer on Hampstead Heath after meeting earlier that year. Rachel and Alex's two daughters, Amelie, 12, and Minnie, nine, were both in attendance at the wedding and were both bridesmaids. Rachel herself has also found love with Dancing On Ice skater Brendyn Hatfield, going official in November 2023 after first being paired together on the ITV show. She did not appear to be in attendance at the wedding. Lily looked stunning in a bespoke lace gown in snaps shared to both of their Instagram accounts from the big day. They penned in the caption: 'A little more from our big day. Still on cloud 9. 'Words can't begin to describe our happiness. Thank you to all of our family and friends for being there on our special day.' Last June Alex gushed about his girlfriend at the time Lily and confessed that he would like to get married again one day. He said: 'I'm very grateful for what I have in life. My new partner is a wonderful person and she works in art. She's a beautiful person inside and out. 'I'm a very open-hearted person and I think love is an amazing thing. I've got a wonderful partner and incredible family and a business that I'm proud of. 'Why not get remarried one day? I'm a romantic and a passionate person and I think life is about loving.' He also opened-up for the first time about his 'terrifying' split from Rachel. Alex admitted that he struggled during the early stages of their separation, especially navigating co-parenting. But the former actor insisted that he and Rachel are now on good terms, having moved on with new partners, who their two daughters 'adore'. Alex, who is Co-founder and Director of London House, explained: 'It was terrifying at the start and it's not easy – and maybe I am making it all happy families - but we've handled it really well. I guess we are a blended family and I'm totally cool with it. 'I'm happily in a relationship and have a supportive partner, who my kids absolutely adore. Both myself and my ex-wife are in happy relationships and we are very supportive of each other. 'My children are such kind, loving people, who I am very proud of, so they made it easy to introduce them. They really, genuinely want us to be happy and we are.' The prime real estate agent, who co-founded prime real estate agency London House, added that the former couple had worked to 'avoid animosity' with introducing their new partners. He said: 'We were very grown up about the whole introducing partners thing. Everything has been handled with a lot of sensitivity and respect and that avoids animosity and unhappiness. 'Our children are everything and all we want is for them to be happy.' Alex's candidness came a week after Rachel lifted the lid on their separation during an appearance on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, comparing it to 'jumping off a cliff.' She admitted: 'It's a lot of navigating, especially with the girls because they've always been at the forefront. 'I'm very lucky, their dad is a great dad and we've always been so aligned with keeping them really safe in it and being really honest. 'We've had great advice on how to age-appropriately speak to them and help them feel safe in it all, because that was my biggest fear - how they are going to be in all of this.' She continued: 'You're changing your life. It's not only a marriage it's a family around it, it's your friendship groups, your home, your children. 'Changing your whole life, for me it felt like jumping off a cliff, like wow, it's the unknown. 'But I've always believed that we have to be happy, we have to be true to ourselves and it's not something you decide overnight, it's something that takes so much thought and questioning. 'I haven't talked about it a lot publicly because I'm so mindful of everyone involved.' The former couple were childhood sweethearts and reconnected in the mid-2000s when Rachel was launching her solo career and Alex was still trying to make it as an actor in Los Angeles. They got engaged in June 2008 after 18 months of dating and tied the knot at Claridge's in London the following year. The pair walked down the aisle to S Club 7 's hit Never Had A Dream Come True and her bandmates - Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O'Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole and Tina Barrett - were there to watch them say 'I do'. Discussing her new relationship with Brendyn, Rachel went on: 'We've just been really mindful and thoughtful of everyone involved and it was a very slow process, but when you go through growth in your life, you change and your outlook on life changes. 'You realise this is what I need, this is what I want, this is what I deserve. And everything is new and it all just kind of happens.' She added: 'It all just evolves and it's not black and white, it's just an amazing growth experience.' Last year Rachel revealed how falling for Brendyn led to her 'messy' split from Alex, with their marriage already on the rocks. Speaking to The Sun she admitted: '[The split] was messy. I knew that we were growing, that I was growing apart, but I was in turmoil, because first of all my kids'. Rachel went on to recall how she felt telling now ex-husband Alex about Brendyn admitting: 'It was really scary, because I knew as soon as I said that, that was it.' It was in July 2022 that Rachel announced on Instagram that she had split from her husband of 12 years. Insisting they would be keeping things amicable, she wrote: 'I just wanted to share with you all that after time and consideration, the difficult decision has been made for Alex and I to separate. 'While we are no longer partners in marriage, we will remain partners in parenthood to our beautiful girls and continue with love and respect for each other. 'I feel so incredibly grateful for the life we built together and will now continue to be focused on moving forward united as a family.'

Jeff Bezos' 'rock' who'll be by his side as he weds Lauren Sanchez: Adopted father fled Cuba as a teen - and bravely invested in 'start-up' Amazon

When Jeff Bezos weds his girlfriend of six years, Lauren Sanchez, in Venice this week, there'll be one man by his side who's been a constant in the Amazon mogul's life - and even funded his global brand when it was a mere start-up. Despite protests from locals, Italy 's Lagoon City will play host to one of the biggest celebrity weddings in recent decades, when the billionaire Amazon CEO, 61, marries ex journalist Sanchez, 55. The guest list, thought to be just under 200 people, could feature some of the most famous faces in the world - with Oprah, Kim Kardashian and Bill Gates all rumoured to be jetting in to help the happy couple celebrate. However, it is Miguel Bezos, the man whose name the entrepreneur took when he was just four, after his mother Jacklyn married him in 1968, who will steel his nerves as Sanchez walks down the aisle. Miguel, who goes by the name of 'Mike', legally adopted Bezos and raised him as if he was his own son - backing his business ventures even when Jeff warned him he might lose his money. Now 79, Miguel has frequently been dubbed a 'rock' in the Amazon billionaire's life and he's likely to play a major part in this week's three-day nuptials. As one of the world's richest men, Jeff - worth around $227billion - has frequently made reference to Miguel's extraordinary rags-to-riches life, after his father fled his native Santiago de Cuba, the second largest city on the Caribbean island, when Fidel Castro seized power. Three years ago, he presented Miguel with the award for 'embodying the heart of the immigrant story' at the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Awards. Father and son: Miguel Bezos has been a constant in the life of the Amazon mogul since he adopted him when he was just four, after he married Jeff's mother Jacklyn in 1968 (Pictured: Miguel and Jeff at the Statue Of Liberty Museum Opening Celebration at Battery Park on May 15, 2019) Jeff became visibly emotional as he described how Miguel had left for the US at just 16 'fighting for a better life' after Castro nationalized his father's successful lumber mill business. He said Miguel had endured 'tough experiences' saying immigrants quickly learned how to be resilient. He said: 'That's certainly the story of my dad. He came from Santiago, Cuba. He was 16. He spoke no English, he had to make his way. 'He had those tough experiences. I think in every immigrant you'll find a deep optimism and a deep resilience too. 'My dad is an intense hard worker. My dad is warm and he teaches an easy smile. He adds he and his siblings could not 'have had a better role model.' Earlier, in 2019, he bought his father a star, costing $2million, on a piece of artwork at the Statue of Liberty museum in New York which honours immigrants. The Amazon founder is actually the biological son of Ted Jorgensen - and was born on January 12, 1964 as Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen - but became estranged from his father when he split from his mother Jacklyn 17 months later after his birth. Soon after Jacklyn started dating her co-worker, Mike Bezos, and, after the pair were wed, she asked Jorgensen's legal permission to allow her new husband to adopt their son, Jeffrey, and he agreed. Jorgensen was only revealed as Bezos's biological father in October 2013 and only learned the identity of the son when approached by a writer working on a biography. Reporter Brad Stone, author of 'The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and Amazon,' tracked Mr Jorgensen down to a small bike repair shop in Glendale Arizona in 2012. He was stunned to discover Mr Jorgensen had no idea who Bezos was or his intimate connection to him. Jorgensen said: 'I'm anxious about it. I would like to connect with him. I'm not in great health. 'I don't plan on dying just yet but it does make me think, it plays a part in wanting to see him. 'I'm his biological father and I just want to shake his hand and tell him he's done well and be recognized as his father. I would want that no matter what he turned out to be.' The pair never reconciled before Jorgensen's death in 2015 but a year before he died he begged his son to get in touch with him. Jorgensen, who owned a small biker repair shop in Arizona, told MailOnline: 'I don't think he will come to me now. I haven't heard a word from him or had any sign that he wants to connect with me. 'I hoped with the publicity it might happen but I can't blame him. I guess I wasn't a very good father.' When asked about his biological father in 1999, Bezos told Wired: 'The reality, as far as I'm concerned, is that my dad is my natural father. 'The only time I ever think about it, genuinely, is when a doctor asks me to fill out a form.' Shortly after getting married, Miguel graduated in maths and computer science from the University of Albuquerque in New Mexico. The talented graduate was offered a job with Exxon, and the family moved to Houston, Texas - upping sticks whenever a new role with Exxon came up. Bezos eventually went to Princeton, where he graduated in 1986. Miguel and Jacklyn backed their son's ideas, investing $245,573 in Amazon back in 1995 - despite Bezos warning them it was incredibly risky. Speaking of their investment in the past, Miguel said: 'We were fortunate enough that we have lived overseas and we have saved a few pennies so we were able to be an angel investor. The rest is history.' That stake, around 3.4 per cent of the company, is likely to be worth over $30billion now, although it is not known exactly how much the couple still own. In 2023, the Amazon CEO relocated from Seattle to South Florida, revealing he wanted to be closer to his parents. 'My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger,' Bezos said. 'I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami. Also, Blue Origin's operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral.
