‘Best wedding ever': Chinese couple gets married at dog shelter, celebrates big day with over 200 rescued dogs

Indian Express4 hours ago

A Chinese couple is winning hearts across social media as they tied the knot at their dog shelter. The wedding guests' list included over 200 stray dogs.
Yang, 31, was once a successful construction entrepreneur. But in 2020, his business suffered a loss, the South China Morning Post reported. Determined to pay his employees, Yang sold his home and two cars before declaring bankruptcy.
The report further stated that Yang lost five puppies to illness during his childhood. He then committed himself to rescuing and caring for stray dogs. He used his modest savings to open a dog shelter, initially accommodating just 10 animals and operating it independently.
'I had only 23 yuan left in my pocket at that time. That was the entirety of the shelter's funds,' the SCMP quoted Yang as saying.
He further reached out to people and built a network of volunteers to support his dog shelter. In 2022, Zhao, 25, a university student, joined the shelter as a volunteer. Deeply moved by Yang's story and work, she donated all of her part-time income to help purchase dog food.
Yang and Zhao fell in love and worked together towards their mission to rescue stray dogs. 'I didn't meet Yang at his wealthiest, but I witnessed him at his kindest,' Zhao said. Their combined efforts transformed the shelter, which now accommodates over 200 rescued dogs and over 8,000 volunteers throughout the years.
After three years together, the couple decided to marry, and chose the shelter itself as the wedding venue. Yang said it was important to him that the dogs are part of their special day.
On May 25, the couple got married and walked down a makeshift aisle, surrounded by more than 200 dogs and over 300 volunteers.

Another user commented, 'Better blessings compared to humans who would hv had all sorts of opinions and criticisms…..God bless their marriage to eternity.'
'Best wedding place, their blessing will bless both of you for life long happiness.. may god bless both of you for making good choice,' a third user reacted.

Farhan Akhtar's 120 Bahadur: What was Charlie Company? The unit behind Rezang La that made history in 1962

In November 1962, 120 soldiers from Charlie Company were stationed at this high-altitude post to defend the Chushul sector — a location of immense strategic importance read more Long before it became a symbol of unmatched courage, Rezang La stood as a remote, wind-swept mountain pass in the eastern sector of Ladakh, near the village of Chushul. Towering at nearly 18,000 feet above sea level, this icy terrain became the backdrop of one of the most legendary last stands in Indian military history. At the heart of that stand was Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Battalion. In November 1962, 120 soldiers from Charlie Company were stationed at this high-altitude post to defend the Chushul sector — a location of immense strategic importance. Braving freezing winds, unforgiving terrain, and mounting pressure, they stood firm in the face of an advancing enemy, determined to hold the line at all costs. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Commanded by Major Shaitan Singh Bhati PVC — a leader whose quiet strength inspired unflinching loyalty — the men of Charlie Company displayed unparalleled courage on the night of November 18, 1962. They pushed back successive attacks from their post at Rezang La. If the Chinese had taken control of Rezang La, it would have given them a tactical advantage to launch further attacks on the Chushul airfield — a critical military asset located just over an hour away. Though the battle came at a staggering cost, their valour left behind a story that continues to echo through military institutions and history books alike. Charlie Company became a symbol of sacrifice — a reminder of how a handful of brave hearts rewrote the narrative of an entire war. Now, their extraordinary story comes to life in 120 Bahadur, with Farhan Akhtar portraying Major Shaitan Singh Bhati PVC. Directed by Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar (Excel Entertainment), and Amit Chandrra (Trigger Happy Studios), the film is an Excel Entertainment production.
