Shabana Azmi On Her Equation With Honey Irani
During a recent conversation with Filmfare, Shabana Azmi shed light on the key to her healthy relationship with Honey Irani.
"That was possible because no mud was flung there. The credit for that goes to Honey, me, and Javed. You're in a big hurry to explain ki ye jo aap galti samajh rahi hai iss ke basis dekhiye (what was assumed as a mistake must have a basis as well). But all three of us refrained from that and it was very wise," Shabana Azmi said.
In the docu-series Angry Young Men [Amazon Prime 2024], Shabana Azmi also shared how Honey Irani played a significant role in teaching Farhan and Zoya not to view her as an "evil stepmother." She said, "And I give huge credit to Honey because she could have easily filled the children with tales against me. She just didn't do that. She gave them the security that you do not have to consider her an evil stepmother. She and I have a very warm and really nice relationship."

Internet Praises Couple in China For Getting Married At Dog Shelter
A couple in China won the internet by tying the knot in a dog shelter. The wedding ceremony was completed in the presence of 200 rescued dogs and over 300 volunteers. The 31-year-old Yang hails from Tianjin City in northern China and operates the dog shelter, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported. The report mentioned that the man was once a rich construction boss with assets exceeding US$1.4 million. But the pandemic changed everything. As per the report, his business suffered huge losses because of the lockdown, forcing him to sell almost all of his possessions, including his house and two cars, in order to pay his debts and employees. Later, he became passionate about dog rescue and dedicated his life to making sure the furry friends receive all the love and care they deserve. The report also mentioned that he had lost five puppies to illness during his childhood, a heartbreak that played an important role in his decision. He also spoke to people for support and started to recruit volunteers. "I had only 23 yuan left in my pocket at that time. That was the entirety of the shelter's funds," Yang said as quoted. Zhao, the bride, joined the shelter as a volunteer in 2022. She was a university student at that time. She showed compassion for the dogs and even donated her entire part-time earnings to buy dog food. They started working together and grew closer. Their love blossomed, and they decided to get married. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 8days (@8dayssg) For the wedding, Yang insisted on holding the ceremony in front of his furry companions so that they could be part of the special occasion. And both agreed. One social media user called it "Super". He said, "The dogs must have been so thrilled and happy! Bless the couple for this wonderful thought!" "They will be blessed by those voiceless angels, their days are going to be filled with happiness as they both have a big compassionate loving hearts," another user added. "The only wedding guest I want," one user said.

VIDEO: MS Dhoni refuses to eat birthday cake at his friend's house for THIS reason and stands quietly at the back
When a phone-camera video from a modest Ranchi living room surfaced on June 22, it rocketed across social media within hours. The clip captured Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of the more private sporting icon in India, quietly attending long-time friend and tennis coach Surender Kumar's birthday gathering. Standing at the back while guests belted out the lyrics to 'Happy Birthday,' Dhoni blended into the chorus until the cake advanced in his direction. MS Dhoni: 'Feed Kaki first' The video was shared on the Instagram page of the cricketer's friend, Surender Kumar (a.k.a. ' Kaka '). In it, the host attempts to feed the second slice of cake to Dhoni, who quickly grinned and rejected the piece as he pointed to the host's wife. He then quipped in Hindi, 'Feed your wife first; you live here, I'll be gone soon..' The room immediately cracked up. The light joke doubled as etiquette advice, and Dhoni slipped back into the crowd. After being fed a piece by 'Kaki,' he once again offers a piece to Dhoni. However, Dhoni quickly stopped him, suggesting the children be fed instead. Only after the two youngsters were served did he finally accept a bite. The exchange lasted under a minute, yet users labelled it 'classic MSD,' praising the 43-year-old's restraint and social awareness. Viral numbers and genuine tears Kumar had posted the reel with the caption 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAKA SIR. THANK YOU SO MUCH MAHI SIR' with a cake emoji and hearts. The video quickly garnered attention, and amassed over 14,000 likes. A later video of events from the same day depicted Dhoni feeding Kumar as well. Within 48 hours the upload had drawn more than 600,000 views and 60,000 likes. As fans spotted Kumar wiping his eyes as Dhoni offered him cake, they realized just how personal the visit was. Replies ranged from 'Luckiest man alive' to 'That's why we love him… simplicity and down to earth….my captain!' Dhoni's pattern of private gestures The Free Press Journal notes this is as the second consecutive year Dhoni has turned up for the same friend's celebration, slipping in without PR staff or photographers. Away from public stadiums, the former India captain routinely shuns big parties. When he does venture out, he leaves with minimal fuss, drivers idling no longer than necessary. The birthday detour came a month after Chennai Super Kings' forgettable IPL campaign, where Dhoni collected 196 runs at 24.50 and CSK finished last. Results, however, have little effect on his aura. Fresh off his ICC Hall of Fame induction, Dhoni's real legacy seems to be the ease with which he trades global stardom for small-town courtesy. He proves yet again that charisma can look a lot like good manners.

How Zohran Mamdani used pop culture to make politics personal for South Asians in New York
When Zohran Mamdani launched his campaign for mayor of New York City, he didn't just knock on doors or shake hands at community centers — he spoke directly to the city's massive South Asian population through a language they understood deeply: Bollywood. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The 33-year-old democratic socialist, now poised to become the Democratic nominee after defeating political heavyweight Andrew Cuomo in a surprise primary upset, used film dialogues, iconic songs, and multilingual videos to connect with immigrant voters who rarely hear their cultures reflected in American politics. And it worked — spectacularly. Credit: Instagram/ Zohran Mamdani Politics meets pop culture Almost 3 weeks ago, Mamdani posted a video on his social media account where he could be heard appealing to the voters to vote for him in this election. This was not your average promotional video, it was filled with Bollywood pop culture and desi moments. While the video starts with a close up of Mamdani explaining how there is less than 20 days left to the elections- however soon he turns to bollywood reference to put his case forward. The video bursts with iconic moments from classic and modern Bollywood films. There's Deewar, with Amitabh Bachchan's unforgettable 'Aaj mere paas buildingein hain…' line — followed by Mamdani responding, arms wide like Shah Rukh Khan, 'aap'.There's Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and there's even Apna Time Aayega, cheekily flipped into "Aapka Time Aagaya." But this isn't just nostalgia bait — it's smart politics. Mamdani used these references to explain real policy and voter strategy. He walked viewers through New York's ranked-choice voting system using none other than mango lassi as props — five cups, one for each ranking. It was quirky, charming, and instantly shareable. The language? A fluent blend of Hindi and Urdu. Deep roots, real connections Mamdani's outreach wasn't just performative — it was personal. Born in Uganda and raised in New York City from age seven, he's no stranger to blending cultures. His mother, filmmaker , made some of the most loved South Asian diaspora films — Monsoon Wedding, Mississippi Masala, The Namesake — but Mamdani carved his own path. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Before politics, he released music under the name Mr. Cardamom (and previously Young Cardamom), including the single Nani in 2019 featuring cookbook legend Madhur Jaffrey as his grandmother. But by 2015, he was already on the ground organizing, starting out as a campaign volunteer, joining the Democratic Socialists of America in 2017, and working behind the scenes for years. Bollywood as strategy, not sideshow With over 600,000 South Asian Americans living in New York — the second-largest South Asian population in the U.S. — Mamdani's Bollywood strategy was more than clever. It was essential. In neighborhoods like Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Kensington, and Curry Hill, where Hindi, Punjabi, Bangla, and Urdu are spoken at home, Mamdani's videos made voting feel less like a civic duty and more like a cultural moment.
