Neighbors in Morrison work along firefighters for National Wildfire Preparedness Day
MORRISON, Colo. (KDVR) — On Saturday afternoon, neighbors from four different neighborhoods in Morrison met at KingFisher Lake Park to receive their new Firewise signs.
The four neighborhoods that are recognized within the Willow Springs community are Whale Rock, Sundance, Willow Springs North and Triangle Park.
'The effort to become Firewise took on new urgency after the Marshall Fire in 2021 in Boulder County, and two fires closer to home- the Snow Creek Fire in July 2022 and the Quarry Fire in 2024,' stated Ronda Scholting, the Public Information Officer with West Metro Fire.
Those areas were recognized as Firewise USA sites by the National Fire Protection Association. What that means for the neighbors in the area is that they have worked hard and been proactive in reducing wildfire risk.

The other thing neighbors are being recognized for is their strength in the community, coming together to make sure the neighborhood is as prepped as possible to reduce wildfire risk and protecting the homes in the area.
'Concerned about the risk of fire in the wildland/urban interface, many residents came together to take action, leading to the creation of local Firewise committees and a focus on community-wide wildfire preparedness,' Scholting said.
Those signs will be posted in the areas. Firefighters with West Metro Fire will also be at the presentation of the signs.

Windsor sets mosquito traps around town as part of summer management program
DENVER (KDVR) — The Town of Windsor says it set up 14 mosquito traps in 'various locations' around town as part of its 'high-performing' comprehensive mosquito control program this summer. The town is partnering with Vector Disease Control International for the program, which includes adult mosquito surveillance, field inspections and control applications, Windsor said Wednesday. 'The Town of Windsor and VDCI are committed to continue approaching mosquito management from a data-driven perspective, spraying as necessary throughout the season to reduce the chances of humans contracting West Nile Virus,' Windsor said in a news release. The mosquito traps are monitored on a weekly basis, while treatment is determined by mosquito population data, according to the town, which said mosquitoes caught by the traps are counted and identified by species. Control applications are also performed in areas where traps catch 100 adult mosquitoes or more, while field technicians also 'regularly' inspect standing water sources, the town said. Windsor is advising residents to help control the mosquito population this summer by regularly checking their properties for standing water — including clogged drains, puddles, vehicle tires, flowerpots and kiddie pools, among other things. DENVER (KDVR) — A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for Monday evening as scattered thunderstorms could become strong to severe, producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. Denver is in a marginal risk, which is level one on a scale of one to five, for strong to severe storms that could produce strong wind gusts and hail. The risk increases to slight, or level two, in east and especially northeastern Colorado for strong storms that could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and in some cases rotation that could lead to a tornado. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued in eastern and northeastern Colorado through 8 p.m. During this time, storms could become strong to severe, producing damaging wind gusts and hail. Rain will pick up late Monday night and will be heavy at times after midnight as low temperatures fall to the 40s.
