Which Wisconsin natives are in a position to be selected during the 2025 NBA draft?

The fast-approaching 2025 NBA draft carries a lot of intrigue for Wisconsin Badgers fans. Much of that intrigue surrounds the draft stock of star wing John Tonje. The All-American is fresh off a dominant 2024-25 season that included per-game averages of 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists, plus shooting rates of 46.5% from the field, 39% from 3 and 91% from the free-throw line. Although that top-end production should generate significant NBA interest, he's an older draft prospect at 24 and may have already reached his offensive ceiling. Tonje is a near guarantee to be selected during the draft's first two rounds. The questions are, how early, and by which team? Tonje's draft position aside, Wisconsin basketball fans aren't restricted to following the college level. High school basketball in the state has reached new heights over the past few years, with several notable in-state products excelling in the NBA. Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton's breakout run to the NBA Finals headlines that list. Another notable player is poised to join Haliburton and other Wisconsin natives during this week's draft. In addition, several others are projected as undrafted free agents. Here are those players, plus where they stand in CBSSports' latest top-100 player ranking: Which Wisconsin natives are in position to be selected during the 2025 NBA draft? Duke guard Kon Knueppel UCLA guard Kobe Johnson Memphis guard Tyrese Hunter Knueppel is the one Wisconsin native likely to hear his name called during the draft. He's a projected top-10 pick after a standout true freshman season at Duke. Both Johnson and Hunter are ranked about 30 spots too low to threaten the draft's 59 picks. Therefore, both will likely look for an NBA Summer League or G League opportunity to showcase their talents and earn a full-time roster spot. That trio of Wisconsin natives will look to join a group in the NBA that currently includes Patrick Baldwin Jr., Johnny Davis, Tyler Herro, Tyrese Haliburton, Sam Hauser, Jalen Johnson, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, and others. Don't be surprised if Knueppel is a household name sooner rather than later. Cooper Flagg Could Create a Familiar Anthony Davis Problem for Mavericks

Cooper Flagg Could Create a Familiar Anthony Davis Problem for Mavericks originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Since they won the NBA's draft lottery in a stunner last month--with a less-than-2% chance at the first pick--the Mavericks have left no doubt about what their intentions are this week. They're taking Duke star Cooper Flagg and they're going to keep him. Advertisement But what's of more interest among NBA executives, coaches and scouts, it seems, is what the Mavericks then do with Flagg. At 6-foot-8, he has combo-forward size, meaning he can play either small forward or power forward. He has the defensive chops to handle either, though with an increasing number of versatile 4s who play on the perimeter, he'd probably make more sense in that role. "That's where I'd like to see him, in that stretch-4, point-forward kind of role, where you're setting up and running everything through him," one Western Conference coach said. "That's the natural fit. But I am not sure you're going to do that on that team." Cooper Flagg (51) participates in the 2025 NBA Draft Combine at Wintrust Arena. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images The reason? The Mavericks have Anthony Davis in place, and Davis has never been shy about his desire to play power forward, though he generally fits better as a versatile center. The Mavericks have center options--Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively--which has allowed them to plant Davis at power forward. Advertisement By estimate, the Lakers played Davis at center around 98% of the time in the past three seasons. The Mavericks had him there only 42% of the time, in his nine games in Dallas last year. Davis does not want to play center--it's been a point of contention for him just about every season of his NBA career. The Mavs could trade Gafford, which would create more minutes for Davis to absorb at center, with Flagg at power forward. But it's not clear how that will go over with the incumbent star. "They can be effective for stretches with Lively and AD and Cooper Flagg as your frontcourt," the coach said. "But the best thing in today's game is going to be having AD at the 5 and Flagg at 4. You do that, though, and you're going to have the same complaint from Davis that he's always had. There could be some awkward looks there." This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 24, 2025, where it first appeared.
