Which Wisconsin natives are in a position to be selected during the 2025 NBA draft?
The fast-approaching 2025 NBA draft carries a lot of intrigue for Wisconsin Badgers fans.
Much of that intrigue surrounds the draft stock of star wing John Tonje. The All-American is fresh off a dominant 2024-25 season that included per-game averages of 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists, plus shooting rates of 46.5% from the field, 39% from 3 and 91% from the free-throw line. Although that top-end production should generate significant NBA interest, he's an older draft prospect at 24 and may have already reached his offensive ceiling.
Tonje is a near guarantee to be selected during the draft's first two rounds. The questions are, how early, and by which team?
Tonje's draft position aside, Wisconsin basketball fans aren't restricted to following the college level. High school basketball in the state has reached new heights over the past few years, with several notable in-state products excelling in the NBA. Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton's breakout run to the NBA Finals headlines that list.
Another notable player is poised to join Haliburton and other Wisconsin natives during this week's draft. In addition, several others are projected as undrafted free agents. Here are those players, plus where they stand in CBSSports' latest top-100 player ranking:

UCLA guard Kobe Johnson
Memphis guard Tyrese Hunter
Knueppel is the one Wisconsin native likely to hear his name called during the draft. He's a projected top-10 pick after a standout true freshman season at Duke. Both Johnson and Hunter are ranked about 30 spots too low to threaten the draft's 59 picks. Therefore, both will likely look for an NBA Summer League or G League opportunity to showcase their talents and earn a full-time roster spot.
That trio of Wisconsin natives will look to join a group in the NBA that currently includes Patrick Baldwin Jr., Johnny Davis, Tyler Herro, Tyrese Haliburton, Sam Hauser, Jalen Johnson, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, and others. Don't be surprised if Knueppel is a household name sooner rather than later.

The Indiana Fever are coming off a 1-2 record over the past week, dropping their overall record to 6-7. They picked up a testy home win over the Connecticut Sun to begin the week before dropping back-to-back road games against the Golden State Valkyries and Las Vegas Aces, blowing second-half leads in both games. Following the return of Caitlin Clark and a big win over the New York Liberty, the Fever came in third in last week's WNBA power rankings from The Athletic. The Fever took a tumble in the power rankings this week, falling from third to eighth after a pair of road defeats. The Athletic dove deeper into the Fever's second-half struggles this season and why they've had problems closing games so far. Indiana went on the road with a chance to build off its statement win over New York, but it came up short twice. Despite building double-digit second-half leads against the Valkyries and the Las Vegas Aces, the Fever's defense fell apart in those fourth quarters, dropping them below .500 yet again. Although Indiana has an above-average defensive rating for the season, it is mostly propped up by blowout wins over the Chicago Sky. Against Golden State, the Fever were undone by poor defensive rebounding and an inability to defend without fouling (a problem that also existed in 2024). Against Las Vegas, fouling was again an issue, as was transition defense. The Aces took the lead for good on Aaliyah Nye's transition 3-pointer when Caitlin Clark sank a little too far back, leaving a clean look for Nye from the wing. Indiana may withstand poor defense on the road if their offense traveled, but the Fever's league-best offensive rating of 111.9 points per 100 possessions drops to 94.6 (11th in the WNBA) away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark has made 44 percent of her 3s at home and is 1-of-22 on the road. Pelicans trade McCollum and Olynyk to the Wizards for Poole and Bey, AP source says
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to trade veteran guard CJ McCollum, center Kelly Olynyk and a future second-round pick to the Washington Wizards for guard Jordan Poole, wing Saddiq Bey and the 40th overall pick in Thursday's second round of the NBA Draft, a person with knowledge of the agreement said. The person spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been announced. McCollum, a 12-year veteran who has averaged 19.6 points per game throughout his career, now joins his third team since 2022 after spending the bulk of his career with Portland. Poole, a six-year veteran who has averaged 16.8 points per game, also joins his third franchise after spending his first four seasons with Golden State and the past two with the Wizards. The Wizards — who are clearly maximizing the youth movement now — will gain a ton of financial freedom in the deal, which they can use going forward to continue their rebuild. They easily could have around $100 million in cap space for the summer of 2026, largely by clearing $57 million in expiring contracts for McCollum and Olynyk this coming season. It's likely that Washington will look for guards with their two first-round picks Wednesday — No. 6 and No. 18 — and continue adding to the youth movement that started with the Bradley Beal trade. The Pelicans are entering a new era under the direction of Joe Dumars — a former NBA champion as a player and general manager with Detroit — who was hired in April to replace David Griffin as executive vice president of basketball operations. Last week, Dumars acquired a second first-round draft choice — 23rd overall — to go with the club's seventh overall pick in a trade that send a 2026 first-rounder to Indiana. Olynyk, a Canadian, spent less than a season in New Orleans after being dealt by Toronto as part of a deal that sent high-scoring wing Brandon Ingram to the Raptors. The 12-year veteran has averaged 10.2 points and 5.2 rebounds during his career. Bey, a 19th overall pick out of Villanova in 2020, has averaged 14.1 points per game with Detroit and Atlanta. He spent last season with Washington but did not play while recovering from reconstructive knee surgery. In the short term, the deal could also make the Wizards more competitive. They were next-to-last in 3-point shooting last season; McCollum and Olynyk should be improvements there. McCollum is a locker room leader, a union president and still a very productive player — one of three players averaging at least 20 points in each of the last 10 seasons.
