Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever tumble in latest WNBA power rankings from The Athletic
The Indiana Fever are coming off a 1-2 record over the past week, dropping their overall record to 6-7. They picked up a testy home win over the Connecticut Sun to begin the week before dropping back-to-back road games against the Golden State Valkyries and Las Vegas Aces, blowing second-half leads in both games.

The Fever took a tumble in the power rankings this week, falling from third to eighth after a pair of road defeats. The Athletic dove deeper into the Fever's second-half struggles this season and why they've had problems closing games so far.
Indiana went on the road with a chance to build off its statement win over New York, but it came up short twice. Despite building double-digit second-half leads against the Valkyries and the Las Vegas Aces, the Fever's defense fell apart in those fourth quarters, dropping them below .500 yet again.
Although Indiana has an above-average defensive rating for the season, it is mostly propped up by blowout wins over the Chicago Sky. Against Golden State, the Fever were undone by poor defensive rebounding and an inability to defend without fouling (a problem that also existed in 2024). Against Las Vegas, fouling was again an issue, as was transition defense. The Aces took the lead for good on Aaliyah Nye's transition 3-pointer when Caitlin Clark sank a little too far back, leaving a clean look for Nye from the wing.
Indiana may withstand poor defense on the road if their offense traveled, but the Fever's league-best offensive rating of 111.9 points per 100 possessions drops to 94.6 (11th in the WNBA) away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark has made 44 percent of her 3s at home and is 1-of-22 on the road. If that normalizes, perhaps Indiana can resolve its road woes.- Sabreena Merchant

What's next for the Fever?
The Fever return to action Tuesday night when they face the Storm in Seattle. That tip-off is at 9 p.m. on NBA TV.
After that, they return home to host the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday. Tip-off against the Sparks is at 6 p.m. on Prime Video. To end the week, they'll travel to Dallas to face the Wings on Friday night. That tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ION. The Fever will look to bounce back and rise back up the power rankings.

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers Sunday in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. When the Thunder hoisted the coveted Larry O'Brien trophy, it also marked the official start of the offseason. Although the offseason is just a couple of days old, teams have been active in the trade market as the NBA Draft approaches. The Grizzlies and Pacers pulled off trades during the Finals. Memphis sent guard Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic in exchange for players and draft picks. Meanwhile, Indiana executed a deal that involved draft picks. Here's a look at other notable NBA trades so far this offseason: It wasn't clear Clint Capela would return to the Hawks for the 2025-26 season. Atlanta filled the potential void at center by acquiring Kristaps Porzingis from the Celtics in a three-team deal. The Brooklyn Nets were also part of the deal, USA Today Sports reported Tuesday. On Tuesday, ESPN reported a trade involving the Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans. The deal sent Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey and a draft pick to New Orleans. Washington landed star guard CJ McCollum, the 2016 NBA Most Improved Player; forward Kelly Olynyk; and a future draft selection. On Monday, reports surfaced about two-time NBA All-Star Jrue Holiday's future home. Holiday spent the past two seasons with the Boston Celtics, helping the franchise secure its record 18th NBA title last year. But the star guard will reportedly begin the 2025-26 season in the Western Conference with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Celtics received Anfernee Simons and a pair of future draft picks in exchange for Holiday. On Sunday, 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets. According to ESPN, the Phoenix Suns received Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green and six draft picks in exchange for the two-time NBA champion forward. The NBA Draft begins at 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, June 25, from the Barclays Center in New York. The second round is scheduled for Thursday, June 26. INDIANAPOLIS - The Rivals Five-Star is in the books and now it's time to hand out some hardware. At the Rivals Five-Star, not only was Wyatt an excellent defensive back with his length and ranginess but he flipped over to receiver where he had numerous catches and arguably the play of the day when he outjumped the defensive back to score a touchdown in 7-on-7. He then ran over and dunked the football over the goalpost. SPEED TO BURN: ERIC MCFARLAND McFarland didn't run the fastest 40 of the day - that went to new Florida State commit Devin Carter at 4.4 - but the 2028 star receiver won the Fastest Man Award because he beat everybody in the final. Not only does McFarland have straight-line speed but he's an incredibly dynamic route runner who is almost always open. SPEED TO BURN II: TYREEK KING King was a late arrival to the Rivals Five-Star but once he got going in one-on-ones and 7-on-7, the Tennessee commit was dynamic. He can always kick it into another gear and there always seems to be more speed for King to accelerate by defensive backs. The four-star receiver also has outstanding hands and catches everything thrown in his vicinity. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT OPEN 24/7: CJ SADLER One of the best plays of the day came from Sadler, who has North Carolina, Maryland and Colorado leading in his recruitment, when he caught a short pass, ran to the middle of the field, stuck his foot in the dirt to burn a defensive back and then changed directions and ran away from everybody. It seemed like whenever he wanted, Sadler could get open and make something big happen. STICK 'EM: AARON GREGORY Gregory's best play came early in 7-on-7 when he caught a ball on a crossing route, turned upfield and even when two defenders closed in on him, the Texas A&M commit ran by them into the end zone. The four-star from Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County consistently caught pass after pass, didn't drop anything and had a solid performance. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TEXAS A&M FANS AT ANGER MANAGEMENT: KEVIN BROWN The Penn State commit won this award at the Rivals Five-Star last summer in Jacksonville and now he's a two-time winner. His attitude is going to be a perfect fit in the Nittany Lions' locker room as he does everything with aggression, toughness and a predilection toward being overly physical. Plus, Brown pumped out 25 bench press reps which would have tied him for 10th among offensive linemen at this year's NFL Combine. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT ENERGIZER BUNNY: DAVERIN 'DEUCE' GERALDS The defensive line group was absolutely loaded and it was a shame that we could only hand out two MVP awards there because Geralds was outstanding on the inside. What we loved most about Geralds is that he played with so much energy and never backed down to anybody, winning a ton of reps using speed and power to his advantage. Ohio State, LSU, Ole Miss and others are heavily involved. MOUNTAIN MAN: GABRIEL OSENDA Think about this: Osenda is already taller than almost every offensive tackle in April's NFL Draft (only Boston College's Ozzy Trapilo was an inch taller) and he's heavier than every offensive tackle or offensive guard in pre-draft guides. The Tennessee commit is 19 pounds heavier than Alabama's Tyler Booker and 25 pounds heavier than Texas' Kelvin Banks Jr. He's huge and getting better and better each time we see him. FAST BALL: COLTON NUSSMEIER Whether right or wrong, a lefty quarterback is almost never going to look as smooth but Nussmeier throws an incredible fastball that looks like it could travel in the air forever. The four-star from Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus can put touch on it when needed but Nussmeier is best zipping it around the field and he has arm talent for days as LSU and others keep battling. POWER MAN: GRANT WISE At Rivals Five-Star Media Day, Wise predicted he would do 27 reps on the bench press. That's exactly what he did as the four-star Clemson offensive line commit won the bench press competition which was no surprise since he holds multiple state weightlifting records. Wise has not done many events over the years but he was very impressive here and did well for himself. His 27 reps would put him tied for sixth - sixth! - at this year's NFL Combine for offensive linemen. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH CLEMSON FANS AT BULL MARKET: KHARY WILDER Wilder is ranked right at No. 100 nationally and eighth at defensive end which is very respectable but his performance in Indianapolis should push him even higher before all is said and done. The Ohio State four-star commit has added 20 pounds of muscle in the last few months and had an absolutely dominant performance using his length and newfound power to win a ton of reps against some elite offensive linemen. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT HOT OR COLD: SAMARI MATTHEWS There were some times when Matthews got turned around and beaten during one-on-ones (but almost everybody lost reps to Tyreek King) but then the four-star cornerback was outstanding at other times knocking passes down and locking down receivers over and over. MASH UNIT: GREGORY PATRICK He hurt his ankle. He got hit in the face and had a bloody nose packed with gauze. But the four-star offensive tackle from Portage, Mich., kept bouncing back, lining up and competing all day long. Patrick had some struggles against some of the most elite defensive linemen but that toughness and that willingness to keep getting back up will be welcomed at Notre Dame. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NOTRE DAME FANS AT DOT 'EM: JAYDEN WADE Wade is special. The 2028 quarterback has all the talent in the world, was outstanding during 7-on-7 play and threw some of the nicest passes all day. Once he gets even more experience at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy as the starter this season, his recruiting could go even more parabolic. He's one of the next big-time guys, it just feels that way in every sense. FANCY FEET: DERREK COOPER During 7-on-7, Cooper would get the ball dumped off to him and it looked like he would go for a short gain but then he would run by defenders, get 10 or 15 yards and show off his explosiveness. The five-star was excellent in drills where he showed off great feet and burst, excelled in one-on-ones where linebackers were grabbing for him and then was terrific in 7-on-7 as well. THE SNUGGIE: JONTAVIUS WYMAN The best defensive back at the Rivals Five-Star, Wyman was incredible during one-on-ones with at least two interceptions and then he continued to lock up receivers throughout the 7-on-7 portion. The Miami commit was even beaten on one rep, closed ground and made an impressive interception. Wyman was really impressive in every setting. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MIAMI FANS AT YOUNG BUCK: KASI CURRIE The 2027 four-star defensive tackle is dripping with all kinds of potential. At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Currie is so physical and plays with an edge that he will only get better with more experience. Currie has had an excellent offseason and has emerged as one of the top 2027 defensive tackles in the West, if not the country. MR. VERSATILE: JOEY O'BRIEN O'Brien had some excellent moments at safety. But where the Notre Dame commit really shined was when he flipped over to receiver as he had one of the best catches of the day going over the top of a defensive back and holding onto the ball. Asked afterward, O'Brien said Notre Dame has discussed using him in some packages at receiver. Maybe more should be developed after this performance.

INDIANAPOLIS - Dozens of the best prospects in the country competed at the Rivals Five-Star this week at the home of the Indianapolis Colts. With some of the best talent on hand, there was no shortage of big plays and surprises along the way. Here are the 12 biggest surprises from the 2025 Rivals Five-Star. Wilder fired off the ball and was brilliant rushing inside and out at a high tempo. Advertisement There were also compelling cases to be made for other defensive linemen who were also playing at a different tier. Top-35 prospect Deuce Geralds was explosive and bendy and immensely powerful as an interior pass-rusher. Texas-bound five-star edge defender Richie Wesley was an absolute bully off the line -- putting together some of the most dominant reps of the camp. Four-star Nolan Wilson was impressive working both inside and out; so was four-star edge defender Landon Barnes, who continues to fill out his frame and is position-versatile. Four-star edge defender KJ Ford had arguably the rep of the day as he bull-dozed an opposing offensive tackleT. Ford was also dynamic off the line; he's super bendy and has violent hands. TEDDY JARRARD STEALS THE SHOW Some of the nation's best quarterbacks were on hand for the Rivals Five-Star and four-star Teddy Jarrard set himself apart with a strong day inside of the Colts' practice facility. Advertisement Jarrard won the Accuracy Contest and followed suit by leading his team to the 7-on-7 championship game, including going unbeaten in pool play. The 2027 passer processes at a rapid pace and can distribute accordingly. He caught rhythm on Tuesday and let his play do the talking. Notre Dame recently offered Jarrard and Ohio State, Michigan and Missouri are also in the mix. NOTRE DAME COMMIT JOEY O'BRIEN IS A TWO-WAY PLAYMAKER Four-star safety Joey O'Brien is going to be inside the state of Indiana way more frequently in a few months -- and he's adjusted well to scenery so far. O'Brien was one of the top performers of the day at defensive back and was equally as formidable playing wide receiver. Advertisement The Notre Dame verbal out of Philadelphia was excellent in coverage -- at cornerback and safety -- with outstanding length and coverage skills, range and instincts in the secondary. He can line up at all three positions back deep and is fantastic on the other side of the ball as well. He's showed up in a big way at several national events already this off-season, including again this week. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NOTRE DAME FANS AT JOEL WYATT IS A UNICORN Four-star athlete Joel Wyatt is down to Tennessee and Vanderbilt -- and he will choose from those two in-state programs on July 6. Wyatt is getting courted by the Volunteers to play a hybrid role on defense -- including time at linebacker -- and by the Commodores at safety. Advertisement Wyatt was in the conversation as the Defensive Back MVP as a lockdown cornerback at the Rivals Five-Star -- with an interception during the 7-on-7 portion and outstanding reps all around. Wyatt also has excellent tape playing not only on defense, but at wide receiver -- and at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds -- has that in his bag of tricks, too. ERIC MCFARLAND, JAYDEN WADE ARE AHEAD OF THE CURVE It's always a bit of a surprise when underclassmen step up in these settings. That wasn't the case for 2028 prospects Eric McFarland and Jayden Wade -- both out of IMG. McFarland was a top performer at the Rivals Camp Series in Los Angeles, OT7 and then captured first in the Fastest Man competition -- a field littered with some of the nation's fastest prospects like Florida-bound running back Carsyn Baker, Florida State-bound receiver Devin Carter and LSU-bound receiver Jabari Mack, among others. He also was among the top pass-catchers in a stacked field of receivers in Indy. The same off-season storyline applies to Wade as well. Like his 2028 counterpart, Wade has been among the top quarterbacks in multiple camp and 7-on-7 settings this off-season -- and that theme continued this week. He was excellent again during the 7-on-7 portion of Tuesday's event -- and is a name that'll be buzzing before too long.
