The threat of a war involving Australia is far greater and more imminent than the public is being told, according to defence experts.
The warning comes from military and political figures speaking to Chris Uhlmann for a special Sky News event: The War Cabinet.
Join SkyNews.com.au to stream The War Cabinet live and watch as the panel of strategic and defence experts consider Australia's readiness for regional conflict.
Mr Uhlmann is joined by a panel including former foreign minister Alexander Downer, former defence minister Joel Fitzgibbon, former department of home affairs secretary Mike Pezzullo, and Strategic Analysis Australia director Peter Jennings.
The symposium of former defence ministers, military personnel, leading academics in the fields of modern warfare have claimed Australia will unlikely be able to sit out of a future conflict, and must prepare its defences as such.

Anthony Albanese has caved into the ‘demands of bloodthirsty terrorists'

Sky News host Sharri Markson discusses Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's decision to recognise Palestinian statehood. 'I never could have imagined that the devastating massacre of 1,200 innocent children and families on October 7 would, less than two years later, reward those who perpetrated it with symbolic statehood,' Ms Markson said. 'But today, this is what we saw, with the Albanese Government declaring it would vote to recognise a Palestinian state at the UN next month. 'This is the Albanese Government caving into the demands of bloodthirsty terrorists, who call recognition the fruits of October 7. 'Shame on you, Albanese, and shame on you, Penny Wong.'
