Billy Ray Cyrus' ex-wife Tish reflects on 'hard times' during marriage and 'surviving' parenthood as he debuts new romance with Elizabeth Hurley

Daily Mail02-05-2025

' ex-wife Tish Cyrus has reflected on 'hard times' during their marriage and admitted she was 'just surviving and getting through every day' when their kids were younger.
Tish, 57, lifted the lid on the difficulties she faced raising five children while the country star, 63, was 'on the road a lot' during an episode of her podcast Sorry We're Cyrus, which was released on April 24.
Joined by her daughter Noah Cyrus, 25, she also reflected on a hard time and 'crazy period' in her life where she suffered with anxiety and her children 'didn't know what to do'.
The episode is thought to be recorded before Billy went public with his new relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, 59, last month, with pals claiming they're set to marry.
In an emotional conversation, Noah told her mother how 'proud' she is of her for making it through a really hard time.
The singer said: 'You got yourself through such a hard time and I'm proud of you. Like, you did that. You are the one that does the work. You did do it yourself.
'I didn't get the anxiety out of you. I was just there to be there for you but it's you that gets yourself out of that, it's not anybody else. So that's something to really be proud of yourself for and that's why I'm so proud of you because you did that.
'And there were times that we really didn't know what to do and as a daughter I'm more than grateful and blessed that my mom is sitting next to me really happy and healthy and doing okay because that is the number one proprity in my world.'
Getting emotional, Tish reflected: 'It was a crazy period but here we are.'
Tish has been candid about the month-long 'complete psychological breakdown' she suffered before she divorced Billy Ray.
She made the decision to leave country singer Billy, 62, in 2020 – the same year her mum died.
Later in the podcast episode, a listener sent in a question about what it means to be a good mother.
Tish reflected: 'I think we all question if we're a good mom and put so much judgement on ourselves when we're parenting and especially looking back on...
'When you're so in the moment, especially when you have five kids, you're just surviving and getting through every day the ebst that you can. Especially when you're a single parent. Your dad was on the road so much and it is tough.'
'I was stressed. Moving to California and dealing with school and homeschool and sets. It was a lot but I think if you can step back.. now I've learned to step back and look at the bigger picture instead of being so in the moment, I've chilled out so much.

In an emotional conversation, Noah told her mother how 'proud' she is of her for making it through a really hard time
'But its tough out there when your kids are small. When you have a big family it is really, really rough. Another thing I've learned is just to be kind to yourself.'
Last year, Tish opened up on the 'breakdown' she suffered in an appearance on the Call Me Daddy podcast with daughter Brandi.
Tish revealed Billy went to Tennessee during the Covid pandemic while she stayed in California where Wrecking Ball singer Miley, 31, lives.
While puffing on a joint, Tish explained: 'During that period, I took a really good, hard look at life, my life, and like, 'What was I gonna do?'
'Because it had not been in a good place for a long time. And I think I did stay so long out of fear of being alone. Like I had met him when I was 23, 24.'
Tish said that the COVID-19 pandemic had actually helped her gain the strength to be able to leave the Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker.
The two had lived in different places for the first few years of the pandemic with Tish living alone in their California home and Billy Ray staying in Tennessee.
Tish explained: 'So being alone, and all of a sudden just having kind of the weight of the world off my shoulders, and I was able to just breathe.
'And smoke pot and garden, and go skinny dipping in my pool. That's what I did during COVID. It was hugely transformative.'
The early days of the pandemic were especially heard as she received the news that her mother had died in August 2020.
The mother explained: 'I was alone during that time, I had to go through it alone, and I literally can't believe I did that.
'It was so crazy, my two biggest fears in life were being alone and my mom passing away. And I had one month of a complete psychological breakdown.'
The whole process had sent her entire world into a tailspin as she detailed what an incredibly hard time it was for her.
Tish explained: 'It was the worst thing, it was not good... Kind of pushed the mom thing under the rug, and then the divorce thing came.
'I could not eat, I could not sleep, I could not stop crying. I don't have my mom, and then I don't have my husband that has been my husband for 30 years. Like I'm scared.'
The new podcast episode comes as Elizabeth Hurley revealed the true depth of her feelings for new boyfriend Billy Ray after the pair shocked the word with their romance last month.
Sharing a loved up snap to Instagram on Wednesday the pair were locked in a passionate kiss in a post just days after they announced their romance.
And the model revealed it's true love as she took to the comments sharing a black heart emoji before writing 'you xx'.
Their unexpected romance comes just over two years after the pair fatefully met on the set of their 2022 holiday movie Christmas in Paradise, which was shot in the Caribbean.
And Elizabeth has the full support of her son as Damian also commented on the snap as he penned: 'Awwww ❤️.'
Last week, Billy Ray broke his silence over his new relationship while appearing on Apple Music Country's The Ty Bentli Show.
The Achy Breaky Heart crooner, who finalized his divorce from Firerose in August 2024, revealed Elizabeth reached out during a difficult period in his life.
'I felt like, 'Wow, can life get any harder? Can it get any tougher?' For me, at a certain point it was like, you can't get knocked down any flatter than laying on your back when life is kicking you,' he said. 'And in this moment... a friend reached out.'
According to Billy, Elizabeth's message read something along the lines of: 'Hey, it looks like life might be a little bit tough and just wanted you to know I'm in your corner; you've got a friend in your corner.'
Upon getting her text, the father-of-five admitted he 'didn't even know the number.'
'So, I text back, I go, "Who is this?" And it's like, "Elizabeth Hurley." Of all the people to reach out to me in that second that maybe I needed most… this friend who made me laugh,' he said.
Although they hadn't spoken in 'two years' shortly after wrapping their 2022 holiday film, Billy instantly remembered 'there was a chemistry' between them on set during their 'very few scenes together.'
'We just laughed, and it was at a time I wasn't laughing a lot,' he noted. 'The oddest part was first, how much we laughed. Second, I figured we were so different but in some very strange way we had way more in common than we had different.'
Christmas in Paradise was shot in the Caribbean, not long after he separated from ex-wife Tish in April 2022 after 28 years of marriage.

Billy Joel says 'I'm not dying' after cancelling tour due to brain condition

The music legend's Murrayfield Stadium gig was due to take place on June 6, but was cancelled along with the rest of Joel's tour due to his health. Billy Joel was forced to cancel his entire 2025 tour, having been diagnosed with a brain disorder known as normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). The star was due to take the stage at Murrayfield Stadium on June 6, a gig which had previously been postponed to give him time to recover from surgery. The 'Uptown Girl' singer has been diagnosed with NPH, which is a condition that causes a build-up of fluid in the brain. The 76-year-old's team shared a statement with fans on May 23, apologising for the cancellation of his tour. ‌ It said that his brain condition"has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.' And the singer added: "I am sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding.' ‌ However, since then the star has been quiet, and was notably absent from the screening of his new documentary 'Billy Joel: And So It Goes' last Wednesday, June 4, at Tribeca Film Festival. Despite his absence, he relayed a message to the crowd through the film's co-director, Susan Lacy. 'We know Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey that to you all. "In fact, he said, 'Getting old sucks, but it's preferable to getting cremated,'' Lacy told the audience, reported Deadline. He also assured his fans that 'he will be back.' ‌ The two founders of Tribeca Film Festival- Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal- also acknowledged Joel's health condition and absence. Rosenthal said: 'Billy wanted to be with us tonight, but as you may have heard, he's dealing with a health issue and had to postpone his performances, including this one tonight. ‌ "We know you will join us in wishing him a speedy recovery.' De Niro added: 'He's our piano man, a wonderful, integral part of the heartbeat of our city. "Tonight, we get to see the man behind the music and behind the legend. You're in for a real treat.' ‌ According to outlet NJ, radio host Howard Stern recently had a conversation with Billy Joel, in which the star urged him to let fans know that he 'is not dying'. During a recent episode of The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM, Stern discussed a recent dinner he had with Joel. Stern said: 'He does have issues. But he said to me- so I'm not saying anything crazy- 'Yeah, you can tell people: I'm not dying.' He wants people to know that. "He's got to deal with some medical stuff. But he was delightful. We had a great time with the wives. Billy's doing okay.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Amy shares two of her four children with Billy, 42, who she first met in 2000. She referred to him as her "Prince Charming" after they set eyes on each other during lockdown. 'There's so much going on at the minute – it's the result of pure stress." Addressing fans who had speculated she had used medication to shed the pounds she said: 'I just want to be clear that, as I've said before, I'm not using weight-loss injections." 5 Amy and Billy have postponed their wedding for a second time Credit: Getty

Confirming he had jetted off to work, the star revealed she'd found it "challenging" having to look after the tot on her own. Cradling her in a brand new mirror selfie, the ex of Ruben Dias declared: "One tired mumma." She added: "Billy has been away for work this week which has been challenging but has also given me so much confidence in getting out the house alone. "Can't wait for another pair of hands and to have a long shower when he's home." The 34-year-old gave birth to her first child less than a month ago. She confirmed she was expecting shortly after she went public with her romance with Billy which The Sun revealed in September last year. They begun dating just weeks after she took part in the first ever All Stars edition of Love Island early last year. Confirming their tot's arrival at the end of May, Arabella uploaded a black and white snap of Gigi to her profile. She added the caption: "Our worlds are complete. Pregnant Love Island star Arabella Chi shows off huge bump as she lifts weights in the gym "Gigi Harper Henty, 20/05/2025, 6.2 lbs." She was recently forced to defend herself from trolls who took aim at her showcasing her toned body within days of giving birth. Arabella had chronicled her fitness journey throughout her pregnancy and clarified that her post was a means of continuing her regular content and not to be insensitive towards women struggling with their bodies just a few days after giving birth. She said online: "I was amazed that my body did bounce back as quickly as it did and I am proud of myself." "I was proud that all that training I had done had paid off and to inspire other people that if you train safely throughout your pregnancy it does make a difference." Arabella concluded by writing: "Don't get me wrong, post partum isn't always glamorous, most days I'm covered in sick, milk, blood or poo. But it's also nice to share the small wins on here." Arabella first shot to fame on series five of Love Island in 2019. Love Island All Stars break-ups Anton Danyluk and Georgia Harrison Fans had hoped the popular pair would stand the test of time but just weeks after leaving the villa they called it a day. Distance was said to be a factor with 400miles between their homes in Essex and Aidrie, Scotland, respectively. But today Anton set the record straight on the What's The Crack? podcast with his mum Sherrie-Ann. He said: 'I just don't think there was really that romantic spark there. We did both try. At times it was there but just not enough for it to continue as a relationship.' Jess Gale and Callum Jones The fourth placed finishers always faced on uphill battle given many watching the latest series wanted Callum to reunite with his ex Molly Smith. The fireworks from the Boohoo party row put an end to the romance before it really got off the floor. Arabella Chi and Adam Maxted This visually striking pairing bloomed late in the series. Despite forming a close bond in the villa, the couple quickly went cold in the real world. Wrestler Adam was based in Northern Ireland while model Arabella moved into a new pad in London. Even though Adam revealed he was moving to Manchester, it wasn't enough to save them. They vowed to remain good friends and split on good terms. Luis Morrison and Demi Jones In another case of distance getting in the way, Luis admitted the 240 miles between Manchester and Portsmouth was just too much. He told The Sun: 'Me and Demi aren't together, but she was a huge part of my Love Island experience and she is one of the most loveliest, most beautiful girls I've ever met. 'The connection was definitely there when leaving the villa too. "But the distance was a killer for us both and wouldn't of worked as we are both at different parts of the country, we both have really busy schedules coming off love island too.' 5 Billy has left Arabella for work Credit: Instagram
