Dominant EastEnders' winning streak continues as it nets yet more awards
EastEnders has cleaned up at yet another awards ceremony following a hugely successful year.
From a jaw-dropping 40th anniversary spectacular stunt to some incredible, unexpected returns (Anita Dobson, we're looking at you), the BBC soap has really been on top form of recent.
It's no surprise that viewers are voting in their droves to celebrate such a stellar time for the Hertfordshire-based cast and crew.
Tonight, professionals from across the media landscape gathered for this year's TRIC (Television and Radio Industries Club) awards ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.
Gongs are handed out to individuals from both TV and radio.
Phil Mitchell legend Steve McFadden was handed the Soap Actor trophy, up against fierce competition from Coronation Street's Jack P. Shepherd, Emmerdale favourite Beth Cordingly and Casualty's Barney Walsh.
In the last 12 months we've seen Phil's mental health spiral, with special instalments diving further into his inner-turmoil.
We've also followed his journey as a carer to best mate Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), who is living with young-onset dementia. The story has reached a huge turning-point this week as his memory rapidly worsened.
Deep breath.
Barney Walsh needn't be too sad about losing out though, as his Corrie alumni dad Bradley won the TV Personality prize, beating money saving expert Martin Lewis, Geordie duo Ant & Dec and This Morning's Alison Hammond.

Scots teen filmmaker wins top award at star-studded ceremony
Edward Ryan, 14, from, has been praised for his powerful short film More Than One Way To Go Homeat the Into Film Awards. A talented young filmmaker from Scotland has captured hearts across the UK with his own story to win a top prize at an annual star-studded film awards ceremony at Leicester Square. Edward Ryan, 14, from Sanquhar, in Dumfries and Galloway, took home the coveted Audience Award—voted for by the public and sponsored by Universal Pictures International—for his powerful short film More Than One Way To Go Home at the Into Film Awards. Edward's deeply personal film follows a young autistic girl who must navigate her way home alone after her brother leaves her behind—an emotional and thought-provoking story inspired by Edward's own experiences. Autistic himself, Edward drew on a distressing real-life incident in which he was bullied by an adult while filming in his community, forcing him to find a new and unfamiliar way home. The film which was written, directed, acted, editied and produced by Edward alone, was also nominated for Best Story, sponsored by Amazon MGM Studios. Speaking after the awards on Tuesday, Edward said: 'I put a lot of hard work and effort into this film but none of it would have been possible without the help of my friends and all the support from my parents and family. "Especially from my mum for entering me into this amazing competition. I would also like to thank the whole of my community in Sanquhar for their unwavering encouragement. I feel overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to have this opportunity and to receive this award.' The film has been praised for its emotional depth, sensitive storytelling, and powerful message about understanding and supporting autistic individuals. The award was presented by actor Andy Serkis and broadcaster Edith Bowman during Monday's glittering ceremony celebrating the best in young UK filmmaking. Edward first discovered a passion for filmmaking during lockdown. What began as stop-motion animations using Lego soon developed into short live-action films featuring friends and family. With a growing interest in cameras and editing software, Edward quickly became a skilled filmmaker and storyteller. His YouTube channel, Mr Porridge —named after his love of the breakfast dish—is run by his parents and showcases a wide range of content, from short films and reels to reviews and documentaries. His earlier work includes Forward to the Past, which premiered at a local community centre, and a documentary for arts hub A' the Airts, created when he was just 12. That project earned him the title of Young Community Champion at the Dumfries and Galloway Life Awards. Fiona Evans, CEO of Into Film, praised Edward and his fellow nominees, saying: 'These Awards are both a celebration of their talent and a clear statement of intent: that the UK film industry values, nurtures and believes in the voices of the next generation.' The Into Film Awards, sponsored by the UK film industry and supported by the BFI awarding National Lottery Good Cause funding, celebrate young people's creativity in film, showcasing and highlighting the wealth of tomorrow's creative talent.

Inside Jeff Bezos' lavish wedding as insiders spill every jaw-dropping detail
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are set to tie the knot on the obscure island of San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice amid three days of festivities this week Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez are to finally tie the knot - despite concerns wedding crashers are poised to strike. Protesters with Greenpeace and the UK-based activist group Everyone Hates Elon (EHE) are braced to express their fury at the extravagant affair, which will see 200 guests enjoy a pre-wedding gala dinner tomorrow night and then several other festivities across three days. Mr Bezos, 61, has already had to amend plans, though, because Venice residents have threatened to blockade the city's historic canals with inflatable crocodiles. They are so unhappy the billionaire "will shutting down Venice" that Mr Bezos has scrambled to move the ceremony itself from the 16th-century Scuola Grande della Misericordia to Arsenale, a vast, fortress-like complex of shipyards and warehouses once used to build Venetian warships. The star is determined for the occasion to go ahead without any further snags as he has been dating Miss Sánchez, a news reporter, for some seven years. It is likely no challenges will arise once the 200 guests, including Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner, descend on the tiny island of San Giovanni Evangelista for Thursday's dinner. Just 11 people live on the island and its only dwelling is a modest five-bedroom home, previously the guesthouse to a convent which was part of a long-destroyed monastery complex. But in mainland Venice, where most of the guests will stay and get a boat onto the island, EHE and Greenpeace protesters yesterday unfurled a giant 20x20m message close to the spot where Mr Bezos is to marry his partner. The banner, in the city's famous St Mark's Square, reads: "IF YOU CAN RENT VENICE FOR YOUR WEDDING YOU CAN PAY MORE TAX." The groups complain Mr Bezos, a father of four, is the second-richest man in the world yet is reported to pay a 1.1% true tax rate. A spokesperson from EHE said: "As governments talk about hard choices and struggle to fund public services, Jeff Bezos can afford to shut down half a city for days on end just to get married. Just weeks ago, he spent millions on an 11-minute space trip. If there was ever a sign billionaires like Bezos should pay wealth taxes, it's this. "While ordinary people struggle to pay the bills, there are more billionaires than ever before. These two things are obviously connected - they're getting richer at our expense. It's not rocket science: tax billionaires like Jeff Bezos now." It is thought the billionaire anticipated the backlash, hiring San Giovanni Evangelista as an emergency measure to have room away from any fuss. A wedding planner said yesterday: This is an inspired choice. Wonderful – not obvious – and very clever." But another source told Mail Online they believe Mr Bezos to be "unlucky", having ended up "picking [one of] the worst days to get married". They alluded to the conflict between Iran and Israel which remains tense despite Donald Trump's claims a ceasefire was reached on Monday. And Mr Trump was expected at the wedding but, due to the tensions in the Middle East, it is anticipated the Republican leader will miss the ceremony on Friday. The guest list is, though, full of stars from across the world, notably in wealthy showbusiness circles. It is thought Mr Bezos and Miss Sánchez will make a substantial donation to Venetian charities with their own wealth. Their wedding planners also insist they are attempting to "minimise any disruption to the city", home to around 250,000 people. A source said: "They don't want it to look as if they have bought Venice."

EastEnders star wishes she was like Kathy amid unbreakable bond with co-star
Kathy Beale actor Gillian Taylforth has opened up about her long-running EastEnders character and her time on the BBC soap opera as the show celebrates its 40th anniversary year Long-running EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth says she wishes she was more feisty and fearless like her iconic soap character Kathy Beale. The actress has been a part of the BBC show since its first episode, firmly establishing herself as fans favourite thanks to her character's no nonsense attitude. Whilst she says some things - like her voice - are indistinguishable, Gillian, 69, says there are others that are quite different. "Sometimes I wish I was a bit more like Kathy – she has a lot of opinions, and I'm one of those people who sits on the fence," admits Gillian. "I'm not that strong-minded, but she is and I love that. "She's got a great sense of humour, too – that's something we share. When I'm out and about, people shout 'Kathy!' at me. And if people don't recognise me to start with, as soon as I talk, they know it's me – it's the deep voice!" As the show celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, so does Gillian, as one of the few stars to have survived four decades. She returned to the show in 2015 after being presumed dead since 2006, making a surprise appearance in a live episode celebrating the show's 30th anniversary. She came back full time and reunited with her on-screen son Ian Beale, played by Adam Woodyatt, 56. Opening up on their tearful reunion and unbreakable bond, Gillian says they are like mum and son off set as well as on. "I have amazing relationships with everyone at EastEnders, but there's something special with Adam," she said. "He's played my son for 40 years, and he never calls me by my name, it's always 'Mum', even when we're not on set, and he's 'Son' to me. "We've got a close bond – he can see if I've forgotten my lines, and he'll say them to remind me. The moment we reunited when Kathy came back, there were tears everywhere – it was a magical moment." A much-loved fan favourite, her co-stars also love Gillian, who says she's the life and soul of the party on set. "My nickname at work is Jukebox Gilly as I'm always bursting into song!" she told. During her 10 year break from EastEnders, mum-of-two Gillian explored other telly projects, appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, Footballers' Wives and Hollyoaks. But she says none compared to Albert Square. "EastEnders has always been my favourite place to work," she beamed. "I loved The Bill, Footballers' Wives and Hollyoaks. I got to do plays and a musical and other things that were lovely. But EastEnders has always been in my heart, because that's where I feel I became who I am. "This wonderful character, Kathy, was always a big part of me. So when I was invited back for the 30th anniversary, I was overjoyed to have Kathy back in my life." Gillian has been a part of some of EastEnders' most high-profile storylines. Kathy was the victim of rape in 1988 episodes and Gillian recalled how it had a huge impact on her. "One storyline that really stuck with me was Kathy's rape in 1988. [Kathy was raped by bar owner James Willmott-Brown, played by William Boyde.] "That was really dark. I went home every night to sort through the material and figure out exactly how I'd play each moment – and when you're reading it all the time, and rehearsing, you want to forget about it straight away because it's such an awful subject. "But it was a great honour to be trusted with that storyline, and I wanted to do it justice. So many girls wrote in to say it had happened to them, and I knew that the show was reaching a lot of people who needed it."
