Special constables could strike at University of Windsor if deal not reached by month's end

The union says a strike authorization meeting held Friday morning saw total support for strike action if needed. The current collective agreement expires on Aug. 31. Local President James Stewart says some preliminary discussions have already happened between the union and university. The union represents 26 special constables on campus.

55-year-old man dies after being struck by taxi in downtown Vancouver
A man has been killed after being hit by a taxi in downtown Vancouver on Friday night, police say. Vancouver police say the collision happened at the intersection of Smithe and Cambie streets just after 10 p.m. PT on Friday. There, they say a 55-year-old man was hit by a Black Top Taxi vehicle, and died after being taken to hospital. Police say the taxi driver suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene. The exact circumstances of the crash are currently being investigated by police. They're asking anyone with more information, including dashcam footage from the area, to contact them.

Senior seriously injured after rockslide in New Richmond, Que.
A man in his 80's was seriously injured after a rockslide in New Richmond, over 200 kilometres from Gaspé, Que., according to provincial police. They said emergency services were called to Henderson Beach around 9:45 a.m. where they found the man beside loose rocks. He was taken to hospital and police say they fear for his life, according to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Frédéric Deshaies. An investigation into the cause and circumstances surrounding the man's injury is underway. In a Facebook publication on Saturday, the municipality of New Richmond announced the closure of the site where the senior was injured until further notice, adding that civil security officials had been called in along with a team of ground movement experts to assess the area. "We ask the public to rigorously follow the instructions and avoid all access to Henderson Beach," wrote the municipality.
