Schengen visa refused? A simple guide to making an appeal

Time of India5 hours ago

A growing number of Indian travelers are seeing their Schengen visa applications rejected. If you have received a refusal, you can file an appeal to contest the decision. The Schengen visa allows travel across 27 European countries.
According to Schengen rules, every applicant has the right to appeal if they disagree with the decision. The refusal notice contains instructions about where and how to send an appeal. In most cases, an appeal must be submitted to the consulate or embassy that rejected the visa.
Here's how the process works.
Understanding the Refusal Notice
Each Schengen visa refusal notice contains specific reasons for the rejection. Common reasons include:
Incomplete or inconsistent documents
Lack of proof of financial means
Unclear purpose of travel
No proof of accommodation
Inadequate travel insurance
Read this notice carefully. The reasons listed here are the starting point for making a strong appeal.

The appeal must be filed within 15–30 days from the date you received the refusal notice.
The notice will clearly state where and how to send the appeal.
Late appeals are usually not accepted.
Preparing the Appeal Letter
Your appeal should be concise, factual, and directly respond to the reasons stated in the refusal notice. It must be submitted in the language required by the issuing country and should include:
Your personal details and visa application number
A clear explanation of why you disagree with the decision
New or updated documents, such as bank statements, accommodation details, or invitation letters
Travel itinerary and insurance information if applicable
Make sure every claim is backed by supporting evidence.
Submitting the Appeal
Send the appeal to the consulate or embassy that refused your visa. Follow their specific instructions. You can often submit the appeal by post or in person. Confirm the submission method before sending.
What Happens After You Appeal
Once the appeal is received, the authorities review the new documents and explanations. The processing time varies but can take a few weeks. They will notify you of their decision once the review is complete.
If the appeal is successful, your visa will be granted. If it is refused, the consulate or embassy will inform you of further options, which may include submitting a fresh application or, in rare cases, appealing to a court.

Address every reason for the refusal clearly.
Submit updated documents that cover gaps in the original application.
Avoid making general or emotional arguments; focus on factual evidence.
What to Do if the Appeal Fails
If your appeal is rejected, you can consider submitting a new application. Make sure to fix the issues mentioned in the refusal notice and provide stronger supporting documents. In certain countries, you can also seek legal advice and approach a court if needed.
A refused Schengen visa is not the end of the road. By understanding the reasons, submitting a well-prepared appeal, and providing strong supporting evidence, many applicants have been able to secure their visas on the second attempt.

Gucci prices shock Tamil Nadu influencer's parents on Thailand trip, their reaction wins hearts: ‘The last innocent generation'

Vanathi S, a travel content creator, is winning hearts on social media after she shared online a hilarious moment she had with her parents during a trip to Thailand, where she took her parents to a Gucci store. The viral video shows Vanathi's parents stumbling upon a Gucci store in what looks like a shopping mall in Thailand. Thinking it was just another regular showroom selling handbags, they walked in casually, only to be shocked by the exorbitant prices. In her video, Vanathi wrote, 'The first culture shock my Indian family experienced on their very first international trip.' As the video progresses, the family enters the luxury showroom and asks for the price of a small bag. When they were told it cost 72,000 Thai Baht (approximately Rs 1.8 lakh), they immediately turned around and walked out. '72,000 for one small bag? I could take 10 trips to Thailand for that,' Vanathi's mother said. As the frame shifts, her father said, 'For a second, I thought that was the price of the whole showroom.' Sharing the video, Vanathi wrote, 'This was literally me the first time I walked into Gucci. I've always believed that memories are worth more than things. Luxury is nice, but for me… nothing beats chasing sunsets in a new country, getting lost in a mountain village, or sharing a meal with strangers who become friends. I'd pick the thrill of a road trip, a spontaneous hike, or watching the stars from a remote campsite over designer bags or fancy dinners & dresses, any day.' Watch here: A post shared by Vanathi S | Travel 🌋 (@theuntoldtrails) The video resonated with several social media users, with one of them saying, 'The last innocent generation.' Another user commented, 'Uncle is imagining the showroom is 72,000 is so cute.' 'Indian parents are pro based on expenses,' a third user reacted.

"Playing sport signifies shared values of humanity, unity, and peace": Uttarakhand CM Dhami

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 23 (ANI): Highlighting the significance of sports in daily life, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday said playing a sport signifies the shared values of humanity, unity, and peace. Addressing an event organised to mark June 23 International Olympic Day, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, ' It is a matter of great pride for us that an event has been organised in Dehradun on this International Olympic Day. This reminds us that playing a sport is not just about winning a medal but also signifies the shared values of humanity, unity and peace.' 'Today, when we talk about the Olympics, we feel proud of the achievements of our Indian athletes - be it Neeraj Chopra winning the gold medal for javelin throw, Mirabai Chanu, Lovelina or the Indian hockey team... Our Indian sportspersons, including those from Uttarakhand, are making the country proud,' he added. Earlier in the day, Padma Bhushan awardee, eminent environmentalist and founder of HESCO, Anil Joshi, met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence. The Chief Minister said that on this occasion, he had a meaningful discussion with him on important topics like environmental protection, green development, and the implementation of GEP in the state. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the CM said that the ongoing Kedarnath Yatra had become a confluence of the remarkable synergy between spiritual devotion and development in the state. Taking to X, CM Dhami announced that in a span of just 48 days, more than 11.4 lakh devotees have paid their respects at the revered Kedarnath shrine.' Describing the pilgrimage as 'a wonderful confluence of development with faith', the Chief Minister said the surge in footfall has not only strengthened Uttarakhand's spiritual landscape but also significantly boosted its local economy. 'This is not just a pilgrimage but has become a symbol of Uttarakhand's economic, cultural and spiritual prosperity. Hail Baba Kedar!' he said, sharing updates using the hashtag #CharDhamYatra2025. The annual Char Dham Yatra, which includes pilgrimages to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, is one of the most significant religious journeys in Hinduism. The state government has undertaken a series of infrastructure upgrades in recent years--including improved roads, helicopter services, and better accommodation--to ensure a safer and smoother pilgrimage experience for devotees. This year, the Kedarnath Dham has seen an unprecedented inflow of pilgrims, which officials attribute to both improved facilities and increasing spiritual interest. (ANI)
