Argentina name side to take on All Blacks
CORDOBA, Argentina, - Argentina have made sweeping changes to their team for Saturday's clash against New Zealand, strengthening their line-up for their opening clash of this year's Rugby Championship.
Coach Felipe Contepomi, who rotated players in their last three tests against England and Uruguay in June and July, on Thursday picked a strong side to take on the All Blacks at the Estadio Mario Kempes, with the French-based quartet of Santiago Chocobares, Bautista Delguy, Marcos Kremer and Juan Cruz Mallia all returning after missing the mid-year matches.
There are 10 changes from the Pumas' last international, a 52-17 win over neighbours Uruguay in Salta with only Rodrigo Isgro kept in the backline and four changes in the forward pack.
Prop Francisco Gomez Kodela retired after the game while centre Matías Moroni has been dropped for the first time in more than three years. Injury rules out winger Emiliano Boffelli, flank Benjamín Grondona, who debuted in July, and front rower Thomas Gallo, who is scheduled to return next month.
Last year, Argentina stunned the All Blacks with a 38-30 victory in Wellington in the opening round of the annual southern hemisphere championship but only 14 of 23 who played that day will line-up in Córdoba.
Argentina also beat Australia and world champions South Africa at home in last year's competition to finish in third place.

All my focus has been on the training, Villa and the transfer front in terms of getting players in -- that is all-consuming for me," Howe said. "I want (Isak) to play. I want him to train. Firmino was instrumental in the Jeddah-based outfit lifting the continental title for the first time in May when he inspired Al-Ahli to a 2-0 win over Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in the final before leaving the club in July. The Brazilian has since joined the Qatar Stars League champions and the two clubs have been drawn to face one another in Doha during the eight-match league phase of the competition, which will kick off on Sept. 15. The tournament will again adopt the Swiss league format for the opening round after its introduction last season, with the 24 participants divided into 12-team groups for both west and east Asia. The first eight finishers on each side of the Asian confederation will progress to the last 16, which will be played in March with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final to be held in Saudi Arabia from April 17 to 25. Wallabies change their mind about flyhalf cover for Bok clash
JOHANNESBURG - Australia have made a change to their bench for Saturday's Rugby Championship clash against South Africa after re-evaluating the cover they want for veteran flyhalf James O'Connor. Coach Joe Schmidt on Friday decided he would pick Tane Edmed, who has a single cap, as cover and has taken loose forward Nick Champion de Crespigny off the list of replacements he had named on Thursday. Ben Donaldson was originally meant to be cover for the 35-year-old O'Connor, who will play for the Wallabies for the first time in three years, but went down with an unspecified upper leg injury in training on Thursday ahead of the test at Ellis Park. It added to the woes at No. 10 for Australia, whose first choice Tom Lynagh suffered a concussion in the third test against the British & Irish Lions in Sydney a fortnight ago and did not travel for the two matches against the Springboks. 'After three years, I know he's really excited to be out there. He's 35 years old. He's got plenty of experience. He's got plenty of confidence, and we can't wait to see him go out there and do his job.' O'Connor will also form an experienced halfback combination with Nic White, who put off his retirement from international rugby to travel with the Wallabies after injury to Jake Gordon, who played at scrumhalf in the first two tests against the Lions last month. 'When you have two players in two really key positions, who have played everywhere around the world and in really big matches, definitely it's a lot of confidence and they both have quite loud voices in the group and a lot of respect from everyone in the group," added Wilson.
