Union president Joginder Singh Ugrahan said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is oppressing the rights of farmers as they are not being allowed to raise their voice in support of their issues.
He said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government is working for corporate houses by acquiring land in rural areas with inadequate compensation to farmers.
Ugrahan alleged the state government is trying to forcibly evict the cultivators at Jeond village in Bathinda to benefit the landowners.

The formal withdrawal was done today as it required the cabinet's approval. 'The government hereby withdraws the land-pooling policy dated May 14 and its subsequent amendments,' principal secretary, housing, Vikas Garg stated in the order August 11. 'Consequently, all actions, such as letters of intent issued, registration done, or any other action taken thereunder shall be reversed henceforth,' it added. Though the government had been vehemently defending the policy, saying it aimed at giving 'planned urban development' a big push, the Punjab and Haryana high court had recently ordered an interim stay on its implementation for four weeks. 'The Aam Aadmi Party has been a farmer-friendly party since the beginning. The land-pooling policy was brought for the benefit of farmers, but they did not support it. Therefore, it has been withdrawn without any delay,' finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema said. The state government had planned to acquire around 65,000 acres of land in 164 villages, including in Ludhiana, to develop residential and industrial zones. According to the policy, a landowner was to be given a 1,000 square yard residential plot and a 200 square yard commercial plot in fully developed areas in lieu of one acre of land. The Mann government, however, had been facing flak from opposition parties and farmer bodies, which dubbed the policy a looting scheme aimed at robbing farmers of their land. The Shiromani Akali Dal, the BJP and the Congress, among others, had held multiple protests against the policy, while various farmer unions, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, had also planned demonstrations and protests. The AAP had hit out at opposition leaders for spreading propaganda against the state government's policy, with party leaders describing it as farmer-friendly. On August 7, the high court, while ordering an interim stay on the policy, had held that it appears to have been notified in haste and concerns, including social impact assessment and environmental impact assessment, should have been addressed before its notification. Last week, CM Mann had announced that his government would reach out to people and farmers over the land-pooling policy. Reacting to his statement, farmer union leaders had categorically said that scrapping the policy was the only solution. Opposition parties and farmer bodies described the scrapping of the policy as a victory for Punjabis. 'The recall of the policy clearly shows that people of Punjab are aware of their rights and the government has to bow before their might,' they had said.

Delhi HC to hear AAP's plea for Kejriwal's residence on August 25
The Delhi High Court briefly heard a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), seeking a directive to the central government to allot residential accommodation in the national capital to its national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal. On Wednesday, Justice Sachin Datta scheduled the matter for a detailed hearing on August 25, placing it at the top of the court's board. Representing AAP, Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra argued that under the Guidelines for Allotment of Accommodation from the General Pool to Political Parties, the president of a recognised national party is entitled to one government residence in Delhi, provided they neither own a house nor have been allotted one in any other official capacity. "All pre-conditions are met. There is a national convenor, who is also the national president. We are requesting a centrally located residence," the lawyer submitted. He informed the court that AAP had first written to the authorities on September 20 last year, followed by a reminder, but no action had been taken. He also pointed out that a previous bench had granted the party office space when it lacked one, and the current request was for residential accommodation. The petition notes that Kejriwal vacated his official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road on October 4 after stepping down as Chief Minister. Since then, he has been staying at the official residence of another party member near Mandi House.

Criticising the Manachanallur MLA, Annamalai shared a video on X showing Kathiravan discussing the profits made by kidney operations in his hospital and comparing it with the price of a Rolls-Royce car. In the video, Kathiravan said, 'After covering the medical expenses and doctor fees, I will have only 2 to 3 lakhs left (after each kidney operation). Do you know the price of my father's Rolls-Royce car? It is Rs 14.5 crore. The total kidney operations carried out by us is only 252, with the profit of Rs 2 lakh per kidney operation, when can I buy a Rolls-Royce car? I could have bought it only if I had removed all the kidneys from people in Thirupattur. My only concern is that no one realised I saved the lives of 252 people. The BJP leader accused the MLA's hospital of stealing kidney of poor weavers from Namakkal. He said that the DMK-led state government did not take any concrete action against the middleman. 'This is not a joke. Poor weavers from Namakkal were lured, their kidneys stolen, and the MLA himself admits in this video that his hospital made at least Rs 7.5 crore from this trade. Yet, the DMK Govt has taken no concrete action. Has their functionary Dravida Anandan, the middleman in this kidney theft racket, even been arrested?(sic)," he added. While former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy suggested people to avoid visiting clinics run by DMK members, saying they 'may lose your kidney". 'Don't even visit clinics run by DMK men even by mistake. You may lose your kidney. A group is prevailing which shows money to poor and is stealing organs. DMK government itself constituted a committee which investigated and discovered kidney stealing in a hospital belonging to DMK MLA. Was there action taken? NO," he said. He added that only the license for organ transplant in the hospital was cancelled, with no arrests made. 'The MLA says that for buying a Rolls Royce car, he might have to remove people's kidneys. His car is worth Rs 12 crore.
