12-year-old girl rescued and detained after locking herself in Yishun flat

SINGAPORE: A tense situation unfolded on Sunday afternoon (1 June) when a 12-year-old girl locked herself in a room at a residential unit in Yishun, prompting an emergency response involving the police, crisis negotiators, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The incident took place at Block 348A Yishun Avenue 11 at around 3pm. According to a statement issued by the Singapore Police Force, officers were dispatched to the scene following a call for assistance. Upon arrival, they found that the girl had locked herself in a room and refused to come out.
Fearing that she might pose a danger to herself, the police activated its Crisis Negotiation Unit and Special Operations Command. The SCDF was also alerted and deployed to the scene as a precaution.
SCDF officers were seen setting up life-saving air bags outside the block, a standard safety measure in such cases to prevent injury in the event of a fall.
At about 4:55pm, police officers entered the unit and successfully brought the situation under control. The girl was rescued and subsequently detained under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.
No injuries were reported, and the authorities have not disclosed further details about the girl's condition or what might have led to the incident. Investigations are ongoing.

SINGAPORE: An argument between a stepfather and his stepson escalated into a physical altercation at a rental flat in Yishun on Saturday morning, resulting in both men being arrested. The incident occurred around 10am at Block 510A Yishun Street 51. Eyewitnesses told Shin Min Daily News that police officers were seen arriving at the scene shortly after the commotion broke out. Residents familiar with the family said arguments were not uncommon in the unit, which is reportedly shared by a couple and a man in his 30s, believed to be the woman's son. 'They often argue,' one neighbour shared, 'That day, it turned into a fight. The younger man had a head injury, and the fight even spilled into the corridor.' Photos taken after the altercation showed the aftermath outside the flat — a broken shoe rack lay overturned, with footwear scattered across the corridor floor. When reporters visited the flat later, the unit appeared unoccupied. In response to media queries, the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that a 35-year-old man had been taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. A 57-year-old man sustained minor injuries but declined medical assistance. Both men were arrested for affray. Police investigations are ongoing.

Barge stranded near Tanjong Beach, Sentosa

In a statement issued shortly after the incident, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed that there were no injuries, environmental pollution, or damage reported as a result of the grounding. The barge, identified as Marco Polo 802, has since been towed away from the coast with the help of deployed tugboats. The cargo containers it was carrying remain intact. MPA assured the public that the grounding posed no risk to navigational safety in the area.
