Steam train visits Bradford for City of Culture
A steam train is set to leave Bradford and head north along the famous Settle-Carlisle line as part of celebrations for UK City of Culture.
The West Yorkshireman service has been chartered by the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company to mark the line's 150th anniversary and 200 years of passenger railways.
It will leave Bradford Forster Square Station at 08:30 BST before stopping to pick up passengers at Shipley, Bingley, Keighley, Skipton and Settle and heading to Carlisle.
John Moorhouse from the not-for-profit company said he wanted to "provide a unique opportunity to communities in this area of our line to experience the power of steam and celebrate our railway history and culture".
He added: "This is a very special year for the Settle-Carlisle line, marking the 150th anniversary of the line opening.
"It is also a very important year for the rail industry as we celebrate Rail200, the 200th anniversary of passenger rail.
"With Bradford also celebrating being the City of Culture, we wanted to mark these events in a special way - and what could be more spectacular than a steam engine pulling out of Bradford to take in the views along the Settle-Carlisle line?"
Passengers will be able to explore the landmarks of Carlisle, including the castle, cathedral and Tullie House Museum, before returning via the West Coast Main Line and the Bentham Line.
The West Yorkshireman will be hauled by the preserved locomotive the LMS 7P Scots Guardsman for the journey.
The company was set up in 1992 to support the line, which was at one point under threat of closure, and works with volunteers to maintain stations along the route.
Steam charters do not regularly call at Forster Square as the station is a terminus.

Cllr Tracy Kelly to become DUP's first female Belfast lord mayor
South Belfast councillor Tracy Kelly is set to become the city's first female lord mayor from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). She is expected to be voted into the top position in Belfast at a council meeting on Monday night. It will make her the second female unionist to become the city's lord mayor. The late Grace Bannister held the position in 1981, and there is a footbridge in east Belfast named in her honour. The next deputy lord mayor is set to be west Belfast councillor Paul Doherty of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). Kelly, 47, is from the Donegall Road area of south Belfast and used to work in community development, which sparked her interest in politics. She is currently office manager at the DUP constituency office of MLA Edwin Poots, who is the speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly. She previously worked for MLA Christopher Stalford, who died suddenly three years ago, aged 39. He had encouraged her to become involved in politics, and she was first elected to the council in 2019. "He asked me to run in that election," she told BBC News NI. "Him and constituents pressurised me into running in the 2019 election. I never thought I would ever sit in city council - never mind be lord mayor." The DUP has held the position of lord mayor in Belfast nine times, and among those to wear the chain of office were Nigel Dodds, Sammy Wilson and current party leader Gavin Robinson. Asked about being the first female from the party in the role, Kelly said: "I feel very privileged to be the first female. Women are now taking more and more leadership roles." She pointed out that the DUP has already had a female leader, Arlene Foster, who became first minister, and Emma Little-Pengelly is the current deputy first minister. Looking ahead to her year in office, she said: "My aim as lord mayor is to ensure that nobody is left behind. "Over the years Belfast has evolved and changed dramatically, since the Troubles especially. "But there's communities out there that are disengaged from the city centre, they don't feel part of this change. "And there's also young people who are disengaged from education, employment and training. I want to reach out to them." Away from politics, Kelly is a football fan and supports Linfield and Liverpool. The outgoing lord mayor is Micky Murray of the Alliance Party, who described himself as the first "openly gay" first citizen in Belfast.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Charters New Chapter In The United Kingdom
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is exporting a Black American tradition to the U.K. It officially charted the first AKA chapter in the country, which will be known as Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter, on Friday. It is the 19th chapter of AKA's international mission. Technically, there was a precursor to the AKA's presence in London with the former Tau Sigma Omega Chapter, which was dissolved in 2006. AKA inaugurated the new chapter in London on Friday. Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter includes 25 professional women who work in fields like real estate, finance, medicine and business. 'History has been made across the pond!' the sorority wrote in an Instagram post. 'Congratulations to the charter members of Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® on your official chartering in London, United Kingdom!' Before its official induction, the interest group was titled the Royal Pearl Society. They have been working with local organizations to help communities in need this past year, according to Watch the Yard. The group spearheaded initiatives such as the distribution of 350 Childhood Hunger Power Packs, assembling over 200 Blessing Bags, organizing an eight-week entrepreneurship training program for women, investing over £3,000 in Black-owned businesses and volunteering over 200 hours. 'These women are already making an enormous difference in and around London,' Carrie J. Clark, AKA's International Regional Director. 'They are an amazing group of servant leaders who I am confident will expand Alpha Kappa Alpha's legacy of service in the Greater London area for years to come.' Alpha Delta Alpha Omega Chapter will keep focusing on similar initiatives after its official induction. They plan on organizing activities like distributing children's books by Black authors, as well as collecting professional attire for women re-entering the workforce. Although sororities are an American tradition, AKA established international chapters early on, according to their website. The first one to be established overseas was the AKA chapter in Liberia, which was chartered in 1954. AKA then opened another international chapter in Nassau, Bahamas, in 1963, in the U. S. Virgin Islands in 1978, and in Germany a year later. Other countries with international chapters include Japan, South Korea, Canada, South Africa and more. The sorority has led global initiatives like efforts to reduce poverty in sub-Saharan African countries, building schools in South Africa after apartheid and service missions to support women and children in Liberia.
