González's Spanish League season concluded with a championship less than a week ago. Hours later, around 5 a.m. in Spain, he was chosen by the Celtics. He joined Real Madrid's youth program when he was just 10 years old and progressed swiftly, this year taking the floor with a squad filled with former NBA players.

'What they just told me [about the NBA] is, 'Be yourself. How you play, you're going to have success,' ' González said. 'And I'm having that feedback really on my mind, because they've got a ton of experience, way more than that, and if they tell me that, they know what they're saying. So, I appreciate that.'

González, a 6-foot-6 wing, called it a 'privilege' to be joining a franchise with a history as rich as Boston's, and he said his experience with Real Madrid, which has won a record 38 Spanish League titles, has helped prepare him for the great expectations that come with being a Celtic.
'So, I'm pretty used to team success,' González said. 'It's the first and the main thing for the whole season. It's nothing that I need to learn. It's something that I already have in my DNA. So I think that's going to help a franchise like the Celtics, too, and I hope that it does.'
González is expected to join the Celtics during the NBA Las Vegas summer league and said he hoped to play in games there, but the team is cognizant that his season in Spain just concluded, and it will have the final say.
'I'm pretty excited about it,' González said. 'I just want to get out and work already and look out for the next steps.'
Williams, a 6-10 center drafted 46th out of Kentucky, might suddenly be in line for more opportunities following the departures of Porzingis and Kornet, and the looming loss of Horford.
The Celtics on Monday agreed to a two-year deal with veteran center Luka Garza, who will join returning big men Neemias Queta and Xavier Tillman. There should be chances to secure playing time with that group.
'I mean it's fun, just being able to learn from the older guys [like] Queta, who's been here for quite a while,' Williams said. 'Just kind of being a sponge and kind of learning as the season goes on, so it'll be a fun year.'

Shulga emerged as an excellent 3-point shooter during his three years at Utah State and two at VCU before the Celtics selected him 57th last Thursday. He still finds it hard to believe that his NBA career is about to begin.
'It's going to take a couple weeks,' he said. 'When I walked in the [Auerbach Center] it still felt a little bit like I'm going around and doing workouts and stuff like that. But it's an unbelievable feeling and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.'
On Tuesday morning, the rookies met with Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla, who wasted no time laying out his plans and expectations for the coming year.
'He said it was going to be hard,' Shulga said. 'Just the most important thing is that you have to play hard and play for your teammates. Those are the most important things. Have passion for the game and just play like it means something to you.'

Why 49ers top draft pick has already impressed his new coach

The 49ers are banking upon a defensive talent infusion from the 2025 NFL draft. San Francisco used all five of its first 2025 NFL draft picks on the defensive side of the football, including its first-round selection at No. 11 overall on Georgia defensive lineman Mykel Williams. Williams tallied 67 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, three passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery across 40 games in three seasons with the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-5, 267-pound defensive end started 17 games during his Georgia career. Now, Williams is tasked with fortifying the 49ers' defensive edge and its pass rush. On Thursday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if Williams is pretty well advanced for a rookie. "Yeah, I would say so. Just watching the style of how he played in college, he's just technical and stuff. I thought that jumped out on his tape the most, how good he is with his hands. A lot of pass rushers coming out of college who are talented like him and just use their talent, but he's as good with his hands as anyone I've seen coming out. And it's transferred over to practice too," Shanahan said. San Francisco is getting a good early look at Williams with some of its one-on-one pass rushing drills. Shanahan shared what the staff can glean from its one-one-one pass rushing drills during training camp. "The same as all one-on-ones, just it's able to isolate it. You can really see how a guy blocks with no help around him and you can really see how a guy's just teeing off and all he has to worry about is going to the quarterback. "Then you get out there on 11-on-11 and there's a lot more scheme involved, there's a lot more other guys, knowing what play's happening and there's so much that goes into it. But you get a situation where you can just truly focus on blocking and rushing and that's the hardest time to do it for a blocker and the best time for a pass rusher. And same with one-on-ones for receivers/corners, should be the best time for a receiver and the toughest for a corner without a pass rush, but it truly can show what guys are capable of doing in their total level of talent," Shanahan said. Williams has been impressing early during his time in San Francisco. The former Georgia Bulldog has garnered some first-team work opposite five-time Pro Bowler Nick Bosa. Williams has already drawn praise from future Hall of Fame left tackle Trent Williams, which is another positive sign as his rookie season approaches.

Another sex toy gets thrown onto the court during a WNBA game

CHICAGO (AP) — A sex toy was tossed onto the court during a WNBA game for the second time this week. Video showed the sex toy out of bounds under a basket after a whistle was blown to stop play during the third quarter of the Golden State Valkyries' 73-66 victory over the Chicago Sky. An official then kicked it aside before it was picked up and removed. 'It's super disrespectful,' Sky center Elizabeth Williams said in the postgame press conference. 'I don't really get the point of it. It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.' A similar incident occurred Tuesday during the Valkyries' 77-75 victory over the Atlanta Dream in College Park, Georgia. 'I mean, first of all, it was super dangerous,' Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini said after Tuesday's game. 'And then when we found out what it was, I guess we just started laughing. I've never seen anything like that. I'm just glad we worked through that situation. We stayed locked in, we stayed concentrated.' New York Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison commented on social media about the situation Friday. 'ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??!' Harrison said on X. 'Please do better. It's not funny. Never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous.' ___ AP WNBA:

Allen Iverson praises Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's work ethic

Back home in Canada, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has given back to future generations with a couple of months left before the Oklahoma City Thunder start their 2025-26 season as reigning NBA champions. Gilgeous-Alexander had one of the greatest individual seasons ever seen. He brought him about every award imaginable. He won the MVP award, the Western Conference Finals MVP and the NBA Finals MVP. He also captured the scoring title. His historic dominance led to a championship ring. Gilgeous-Alexander was joined by special guest Allen Iverson at his recent youth basketball camp. The former has been pretty vocal about his idolization of the latter. You can kinda see why, too. Both are lanky guards who rely on superb isolation scoring to be one of the NBA's best players. At the No Flukes Foundation event, Iverson talked to the group of kids about Gilgeous-Alexander. And of course, had a tongue-in-cheek comment about the importance of practicing. The former MVP winner is most known for his all-time rant about practice. "You have to practice to become whatever you're trying to become in life," Iverson said. "You think Shai didn't practice? Become the MVP, the best player in the world? You have to practice." Gilgeous-Alexander's work ethic has elevated him into one of the NBA's best players. Three straight 30-plus point campaigns came out of nowhere as he wasn't even the headliner in the infamous 2019 Paul George trade. To see him develop from a decent lottery prospect to an MVP winner led the Thunder to their first championship.
