Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are back for another cross-country road trip in a new season of their 'Long Way' series. Streaming May 9, Long Way Home sees the duo hit the road more than 20 years after the first instalment of their epic motorcycle adventure.
Across 10 episodes, the latest series will see the two best friends ride refurbished vintage motorbikes from McGregor's home in Scotland to Boorman's in England – but rather than take the shortest route, they go the long way. They head across the North Sea to Scandinavia, all the way up to the Arctic Circle and then down to the Baltics and through continental Europe, before eventually hopping back over the English Channel two months later.
The nine-week adventure takes them to 17 countries and along some of the greatest driving roads in the world. It marks the fourth iteration of the Emmy-nominated series, following Long Way Round, Long Way Down and Long Way Up.
Long Way Home will launch exclusively on Apple TV+, which costs £8.99 per month after a seven-day-free trial. It joins the three previous seasons, all of which are available to stream on Apple TV+.
It comes as Disney+ launches a raft of its own docuseries, with National Geographic titles including Secrets of the Penguins, Tucci in Italy debuting May 19 and Limitless with Chris Hemsworth returning later this year. Throughout Long Way Home, McGregor rides a 1974 Moto Guzzi 850 El Dorado – previously used as a California police bike – while Boorman revives a 1972 BMW R75/5 once described as a 'rust heap'.
The bikes take them to countries including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands, where they immerse themselves in each country's culture, meet the locals and try their hand at unique and eclectic activities.
'For the last 20 years, my best friend Charley Boorman and I have travelled to some of the farthest corners of the world,' McGregor says in the series trailer. 'Yet, we've never properly explored the countries on our own doorstep, so this time, Europe is our playground.'
Long Way Home is executive produced by McGregor and Boorman, alongside longtime collaborators David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, who also direct. Writing on X ahead of the series premiere, one Long Way fan said: 'I'm soooo excited for this. Feels like just the other day we were watching the first one.'
Another said: 'Looking forward to this. Put it in the calendar.'
A third said: 'Sold. Great story and authentic people. I'll take adventure stuff like this all day!
Not everyone is as positive though, as this fan said: 'While it's nice to see them teamed up for another ride, it's very disappointing they caved to Apple TV subscription service.'

"(It was) very odd, I suppose because I researched it very thoroughly, and really it's the sort of thing that can practically only be done in fiction because you have to have a lot of conjecture," Harris told the PA news agency. "And so it acted as a kind of primer for journalists and for people, so that was very strange. "And then, of course, the extraordinary fact that the new pope watched it on the eve of the conclave." "We talked a bit about Conclave, which he has seen," Harris said. "He's been reading my books for years, so it was nice to see him again." The journalist-turned-novelist also joked about how seeing the inside of Buckingham Palace could provide him inspiration for his future books. "There'd have to be some mystery in the throne room, yes, murder in the throne room! It's got possibilities." Harris said it was a "very generous gesture" to receive the honour and he had "never thought about it" before being asked. Author Dame Jacqueline Wilson was made a Dame Grand Cross for her services to the same industry at the ceremony. The 79-year-old former children's laureate is widely known as the creator of Tracy Beaker and has written more than 100 novels. "It feels like a dream," Dame Jacqueline said on receiving the honour. "I'm so pleased, so proud. "I was just totally taken by surprise. To be utterly truthful, I didn't even know this particular honour existed. I'm so proud and so overwhelmed. "If little girl Jacqueline could be told that I'd be standing outside Buckingham Palace with medals and a sash, she would have been astonished." Dame Jacqueline said the King was "jovial" and they laughed about getting her sash on over her "silly hat". "And I did thank him, and particularly also thanked Her Majesty the Queen, because she takes such an interest in children's literature, and that makes all of us writers feel very pleased," she said. Last year, Dame Jacqueline released her first adult novel since the 1970s as she returned to her beloved Girls series. Disney+ drops to £1.99 in rare deal Netflix and Amazon can't beat
Disney Plus has brought back a mega monthly deal that shaves 60% off its usual price and makes it the cheapest streamer compared to Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV+ Disney+ is offering a subscription for £1.99 with the return of a hugely popular streaming deal. The streamer from the House of Mouse has just kicked off a 'limited-time promotion' that saves 60% compared to the usual price. It allows both new and returning customers to subscribe to Disney+ Standard with Ads for £1.99 per month for four months. This would usually cost a total of £19.96 but is now up for grabs for £7.96 – a £12 discount. However, the deal won't be around for long and is due to expire on June 30. After the four-month promotional period, Disney+ Standard with Ads will automatically renew at the then-current monthly retail price until cancelled. The deal makes Disney+ the most affordable major streamer compared to the cheapest subscription tiers of Netflix (£5.99), Amazon's Prime Video (£5.99) and Apple TV+ (£8.99). It comes ahead of a packed summer slate of new and returning films and series, led by Disney blockbuster Snow White, streaming now. Also on the way this summer are Marvel's Ironheart (June 25), season four of The Bear (June 26) and new prequel series Alien: Earth (August 13).
