GIFT Nifty soars as ceasefire lifts global mood

GIFT Nifty:
GIFT Nifty July 2025 futures were trading 229 points higher in early trade, suggesting a strong opening for the Nifty 50.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Israel and Iran have agreed to a "Complete and Total CEASEFIRE" following what he dubbed "THE 12 DAY WAR." The truce is set to begin six hours after the announcement, with Iran initiating a 12-hour pause, followed by Israel. Trump claimed the war could have devastated the Middle East but praised both sides for agreeing to peace. His statement followed U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which he said were "obliterated." While Tehran reportedly accepted the deal, official confirmation from either country is missing, and reports suggest clashes are ongoing. Meanwhile, markets reacted positively, with crude oil prices dropping and U.S. stock futures rising.
Institutional Flows:
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth 1,874.38 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 5,591.77 crore in the Indian equity market on 23 June 2025, provisional data showed.
According to NSDL data, FPIs have sold shares worth Rs 201.50 crore in the secondary market during June 2025. This follows their purchase of shares worth Rs 18082.82 crore in May 2024.
Global Markets:
US Dow Jones futures jumped 191 points, pointing to a strong open for Wall Street.
Asian indices rallied on Tuesday after President Donald Trump claimed that Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire. However, neither country has officially confirmed accepting the proposed timeline.
Overnight in the US, all three major indices closed higher as investor nerves eased following Irans relatively muted response to the US airstrikes over the weekend. The Dow gained 0.89%, the S&P 500 rose 0.96%, and the Nasdaq advanced 0.94%.
Tesla shares surged over 8%, leading the Nasdaq's gains, after the company launched its long-awaited Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas.
Sentiment also got a boost from Fed Governor Michelle Bowman, who signaled that a rate cut could be on the table at July's meeting, provided inflation and labor market data remain supportive. Speaking in Prague, Bowman also downplayed the inflationary impact of Trump's proposed tariff wave, calling it temporary. All eyes now turn to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who begins two days of testimony before Congress starting Tuesday.
Domestic Market:
The domestic equity benchmarks took a hit on Monday as rising tensions in the Middle East spooked investors. The Nifty closed below the 25,000 mark, dragged down by IT, auto, and FMCG stocks. Brent crude prices edged higher on concerns over potential disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, adding to the nervous energy in the markets. The S&P BSE Sensex tanked 511.38 points or 0.62% to 81,896.79. The Nifty 50 index slipped 140.05 points or 0.56% to 24,971.90.

Adani Group's Revenue Goes Up By 7%, Gautam Adani Announces Big Capex Plan

New Delhi: The Adani Group reported a 7% growth in consolidated revenues for the financial year ending March 2025. Chairman Gautam Adani outlined an ambitious investment roadmap of $15-20 billion annually over the next five years. Speaking at the group's Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025, Mr Adani described the planned capital expenditure as a 'record-breaking move' aimed at building India's infrastructure and supporting long-term national development. 'Our objective is to create new possibilities, serve our nation's destiny and build valuation, brick by brick. These are not just investments in our group, but investments in the possibilities for doing our part to build India's infrastructure,' Mr Adani said. During FY25, the group posted total revenues of Rs 2,71,664 crore and an adjusted EBITDA of Rs 89,806 crore. The net debt-to-EBITDA ratio remained stable at 2.6x, reflecting a healthy financial position, Mr Adani said. The Chairman also highlighted the major achievements reported across the group companies. Adani Power generated over 100 billion units of electricity during the year, a milestone not matched by any private sector player in the country, Mr Adani said. The company is heading towards a 31-GW power generation capacity target by 2030. Adani Green Energy is building 'the world's largest renewable energy park' in Khavda, Gujarat, which is so vast that it is visible from space, the business tycoon outlined. The company is aiming for 50 GW of renewable capacity by 2030 and expects to reach 100 GW when including thermal and pumped hydro capacities. Adani Energy Solutions secured transmission orders worth nearly Rs 44,000 crore, while Adani New Industries continues to scale up production of solar modules and electrolysers. By the next financial year, it expects to commission a 10-GW integrated solar module manufacturing facility. Adani Ports recorded a throughput of 450 million metric tonnes of cargo — the highest ever for the group. On the aviation front, Adani Airports handled 94 million passengers during the year. It also conducted a successful test flight at the greenfield Navi Mumbai Airport, which is set to open later this year. With a planned capacity of 90 million passengers annually, it is expected to secure a 35% share of India's airport passenger traffic. In the cement sector, Gautam Adani said that the group crossed the 100-MTPA mark, achieving 72% of its FY28 target to double its capacity to 140 MTPA, following the acquisition of Holcim's India operations. Other milestones included the deployment of Adani Defence drones in Operation Sindoor and the growth of Adani Total Gas, which now serves one million PNG customers and operates 3,400 EV charging stations across 22 states. Describing the Dharavi redevelopment initiative as the group's most transformative project, Mr Adani said over a million residents would benefit from it. As part of its community outreach efforts, the Adani Group collaborated with ISKCON to launch the Mahaprasad Seva during the Maha Kumbh 2025, providing free meals to lakhs of devotees. Gautam Adani also acknowledged India's strong economic performance in a challenging global environment. He said that the economy outperformed other major countries, attributing this progress to the combined efforts of the Central and state governments.

Israel and Iran accept US-brokered ceasefire, ending 12-day conflict that roiled Middle East

BEERSHEBA: Israel and Iran on Tuesday accepted a ceasefire plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to end their 12-day war that roiled the Middle East, after Tehran launched a retaliatory limited missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar. The acceptance of the deal by both sides came after Tehran launched a final onslaught of missiles targeting Israel that killed at least five people early Tuesday morning, while Israel launched a blitz of airstrikes targeting sites across Iran before dawn. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had agreed to a bilateral ceasefire with Iran in coordination with Trump. Netanyahu said that he had reported to Israel's security cabinet Monday night that Israel had achieved all of its war goals in the 12-day operation against Iran, including removing the threat of Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. Israel also damaged Iran's military leadership and several government sites and achieved control over Tehran's skies, Netanyahu said. 'Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire,' Netanyahu said. Heavy Israeli strikes continued in Iranian cities until shortly before 4 a.m., followed by Iranian barrages that sent Israelis hurrying into bomb shelters as the sun rose, killing at least five people and injuring eight others, Israel's Magen David Adom rescue services said. Writing over an hour after a deadline passed for Iran to halt its attacks, Trump wrote on Truth Social: 'THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!' Iranian state television reported that the ceasefire went into effect at 7:30 a.m., but Iranian officials have not commented since Trump's announcement. Hours earlier Iran's top diplomat said the country was prepared to halt airstrikes. 'As of now, there is NO 'agreement' on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,' Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in a post on X. 'However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.' Araghchi added: 'The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.'
