E-biker seriously injured as man arrested for drink driving

An E-bike rider has been hospitalised after a crash in Newport that also saw a driver arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through alcohol and for causing serious injury by careless driving.
Emergency services including Gwent Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were called to Belmont Hill, between Ringland and Caerleon at around 3pm on Tuesday, May 6, after a car had collided with a man riding an E-bike. The cyclist was sent to hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the car was arrested for two driving offences.

The exact location of the incident was on Royal Oak Hill at the junction with Christchurch Road, and the road was closed in both directions for two hours as police made their enquiries, leaving Caerleon at a standstill.

The cyclist remains in hospital in a "stable condition" and the driver has been released by police under investigation.
Gwent Police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to reach out to them with information that could assist their enquiries.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We had a report of a collision involving a car and an e-bike yesterday, at about 2.40pm, on Royal Oak Hill at the junction with Christchurch Road.
"The rider of the bike was taken to hospital - he's in a stable condition.
"The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through alcohol and causing serious injury by careless driving. They have since been released under investigation.

On Monday June 2 four unknown men reportedly took a significant amount of cash from a parked van in the Reevesland Industrial Estate Caswell Way at around 3.20pm The men arrived and left the scene in a Blue Audi S3 - licence plate MH16 00A. Police are appealing for witnesses and want to establish the movements of the car, before and after the report of the robbery. All four men wore face coverings and were dressed all in black – black trousers, hooded tops, and trainers. The car was later found abandoned in Lysaght Village, Newport and it is believed that the men left the area in a different vehicle. Two men, aged 34 and 38, from Bristol were arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody. Senior investigating officer, DCI David Morris said: 'We're trying to establish the movements of the car, and the four men, before and after the report of the robbery. 'We're asking for businesses and motorists who were in the Reevesland Industrial Estate between 2pm and 3.30pm on Monday 2 June to check their CCTV and dashcam footage. 'We'd also ask that residents of Lysaght Village and the surrounding areas also check their CCTV and come forward if they have seen anything suspicious over the last few days to help with our investigation.'
