Nearly nine years later, human remains of missing Wisconsin woman found near where she vanished
Nearly nine years after the disappearance of Wisconsin mother Shannah Boiteau, authorities have announced that her remains have been found.
The 23-year-old was last seen on June 22, 2016, along a highway outside St. Cloud, Minnesota. Dateline featured her story in our Dateline: Missing in America article series in August of that year.
The day Shannah vanished she was in a car with her boyfriend driving down Highway 94. After passing a police vehicle, Shannah fled the car. She was barefoot and did not have her purse with her when she vanished into the woods running parallel to the highway.
Authorities reportedly witnessed her looking distressed as she made her way into the trees.
What happened to her next is unknown. But now, nearly nine later, Shannah's remains have been found.
The St. Cloud, Minnesota Police Department shared a media release on Tuesday, April 29. 'On Saturday, April 26th, at approximately 1220 PM, SCPD was notified that a property owner had located possible human remains on his property in the 25000 block of County Rd 74,' the release stated. 'Officers responded, and with the assistance of the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, they recovered apparent skeletal human remains.'
The police said this was near the area where Shannah Boiteau was last seen.
By Monday, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office had confirmed the identity of the remains as belonging to Shannah Boiteau.
St. Cloud Police stated the case remains an active investigation and they are continuing to work with both the medical examiner and the BCA to investigate Shannah's case.
Shannah's loved ones posted on the 'Help Find Shannah Boiteau' Facebook group after the news was released. 'It is with great sorrow and sadness that we have to report that we have found Shannah Boiteau and she has gained her angel wings,' the post states.
They asked for privacy as they grieve Shannah but were grateful for the support over the years.
'Much love to everyone who has shared and helped us through this from the start,' they wrote.

Drunk couple decapitate and stab dog to death to 'avenge' dead cat
WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT: The couple 'brutally' executed their Argentinian mastiff after drinking heavily, a court in Auxerre, France heard A couple planning to start an animal breeding business drunkenly used a chainsaw to behead their Mastiff before the woman stabbed it to "avenge" their cat. The French couple were jailed after police found the dog stabbed to death when they were called out to reports of domestic violence at the couple's home in Levis last May. The woman told the court in Auxerre she stabbed the Argentinian mastiff after finding her partner's cat dead, who she says the dog had killed, Le Parisien reported. The pair, who remain unnamed, said they had wanted to euthanize the "dangerous" dog, with the man saying "decapitation was the only way he could think of" in ending his dog's life. The man told the court that both he and his partner had been drinking heavily - a litre of vodka and two beers each - before the horrific 20-minute assault with a chainsaw unfolded. The man was being treated for drug and alcohol use and admitted to having "finished off the dog to avenge (his) cat". Several other cats and dogs lived in the home as the couple were planning to start a breeding business, the news outlet added. The prosecution denounced the "barbaric act" as "unheard of brutality" and a "first for France" while the defendants' lawyer pleaded that they were under the influence of alcohol and one had a "personality disorder", reports Mirror US. The man, 38, was handed 18 months in prison and the woman, 31, was sentenced to two years. It comes after an adorable dog found wandering the streets after she was a victim of a "heinous act of cruelty" has "America's saddest face," say social media users. Lavender was discovered in April with wounds to her face and ears, injuries so severe one of her ears had to be intentionally cut off at a rescue centre. The pup also had fractured teeth and was also severely underweight. But Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS), a charity in Menands, New York, has taken care of Lavender, and, when she is well enough, wants to help find her the perfect forever home. It has branded her last owner's acts as "heinous" and "cruel" as law enforcement suspect Lavender was a victim of animal cruelty. Authorities in Menands, which is near the city of Albany, have released fresh information - and upsetting photographs - of the brown dog in an effort to establish exact details about her history. The release was shared on social media this week, where dog lovers have expressed their anger at the previous owner - and adoration for the cute pooch. In the photographs, it is apparent Lavender had suffered injuries at the hands of the "heinous" owner. One Facebook user said: "What a sweet little girl. So sad she has been abused and still looks so sweet!!! Fingers crossed the evil person who did this is punished. Poor baby."

Deadly African scorpion is found by horrified Brit woman after it ‘crawled past her feet' while she watched TV
A WOMAN has been left terrified after returning home from holiday and discovering a "deadly" scorpion in her home. It is believed the scorpion hitched a ride back in her luggage when she returned from a holiday in Africa. It was reportedly spotted by the homeowner as she sat watching TV with the scorpion crawling across her carpet right under her nose. The terrified homeowner bravely trapped it under a wine glass before transferring it into a jar where it was safely kept until help arrived. The RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) was called and recommended the woman speak to a specialist. Advertisement Jonathan Cleverly who provides educational workshops for schools featuring insects, reptiles and invertebrates was eventually scrambled to deal with the African scorpion. Jonathan took the creature away after identifying it as a member of the Buthidae family which several of the most deadly scorpion species in the world are also a part of. After getting the deadly creature home Jonathan made sure to keep it locked up safely before finding it a new home. Jonathan owns several scorpions himself and was well prepared with the proper equipment to transport the deadly animal. Advertisement He dismissed the idea that the animal was an escaped pet, believing it snuck into the UK in the woman's luggage. The dangerous creatures are commonly found in Africa from where the homeowner had recently returned. The scorpion has since been taken to live with an expert who has a DWA (Dangerous Wild Animals) licence. Moment student finds deadly Chinese SCORPION inside her parcel It was estimated to be around 4cm long with Jonathan calling it the "most dangerous animal" he ever had. Advertisement Speaking to the BBC Jonathan said: "She'd [the homeowner] done a brilliant job of moving it from a wine glass into a jam jar with a secure lid so it couldn't move and escape. "She put in some lettuce for a bit of moisture. She looked after it brilliantly well. "The scorpion, I would like to say, is absolutely gorgeous - even if it is potentially harmful to humans, it's a very rare thing for these sorts of scorpion to make their way into the UK." 4 The homeowner managed to contain the scorpion until help arrived Credit: Swindon Community Notice Board/Facebook Advertisement 4 The deadly scorpion is believed to be a member of the Buthidae family Credit: Facebook The six legged creature boasts a pair of fearsome looking claws and a large, venomous stinger on its tail. Coming in at just 4cm the scorpion is small but deadly with the species occasionally causing human fatalities. When fully grown the scorpion can reach a terrifying 12cm, more than twice the size of the one found in Swindon. Advertisement
