Xavier University's popular, long-time campus priest 'Father B' dies at 98
Bischoff began working at Xavier full-time in 1998. He worked in multiple roles, including as an Emeritus Campus Minister for the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice, a longtime resident minister in Husman Hall and a Bellarmine Chapel minister, according to the university.
Students affectionately knew Bischoff as "Father B." He was known for greeting "everyone he met," by saying, "Hello, saint," the university said.
Bischoff was 98.

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) — Francis Melba Braud, 95, of St. Martinville just celebrated her birthday. According to the family, Ms. Braud helped to establish the African American Museum inside the St. Martinville Cultural Museum. Moreover, Braud is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and has achieved diamond status, which recognizes 75 years of service with the organization. Braud was born and raised in Rayville, Louisiana, just outside of Monroe. At one point, Melba's family moved to Houston. 'I went from Houston to New Orleans' Xavier, and from Xavier, I got married. 'They were going around school talking about how Ms. Braud and Mr. Braud are building a castle over there.' It took them 20 years to complete the house. 'I've been married to you 20 years now, and you haven't built this house, so I'm leaving. That's when he struck the line to build this house,' she said. Melba attended USL, currently the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Melba and her husband had four children. Her husband, Newman, served in World War II. Plus, her husband was an educator. 'I was the first African American teacher at USL.' Melba recalls when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was marching for equal rights, the federal government allocated funds to cities and parishes for initiatives related to cultural history. She was appointed to the committee for that by the mayor. 'I did a lot of research with other college professionals and USL to do the historical background for the creation of the museum that we now have today in St. Martinville,' Braud noted. She also offers advice to parents on how to reverse the path that many children are currently following and falling victim to today. 'A long time ago, the old folk used to have to be buried by the young people. Today, the older people have to bury the young folks because so many of them are being shot and killed and falling towards drugs. It's true. We need to get our families together and get back together towards those goals our ancestors had,' Braud added. Jesuit High's class of 1975 holds 50th class reunion

TAMPA - The class of 1975 at Tampa's Jesuit High School recently held their 50th class reunion. 70 percent of the class attended. They say attending the all- boys high school forged friendships that have lasted 50 years. Classmates regularly play golf together and tailgate at sporting events. They issued a challenge to other Jesuit graduating classes to match their endowment that pays tuition for deserving students who can't afford it. Many have lived in the Tampa Bay Region their entire lives. They say changes to our area over the past 50 years have been unbelievable. What they're saying "I was born and raised in Tampa. I tell people that you come to Tampa every 10 years on the decade, you don't recognize the city, it changes that much," said Dennis Levine. The Source FOX 13's Lloyd Sowers interviewed leaders from the Jesuit High School class of 1975. Lloyd and photojournalist Kevin Carlson saw yearbooks and dozens of photos from Jesuit taken in the 1970's. Four of the leaders have lived in Tampa their entire lives and recounted their personal memories of how the area has changed. Longtime priest at area Catholic college dies at 98

Al Bischoff, S.J., on Friday. He was 98. Known as 'Father B,' the university said he 'made a profound impact' on the community. The university also called Father B a campus legend. Father B held several roles during his years at Xavier. He served as Emeritus Campus Minister for the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice, as a longtime resident minister in Husman Hall, as Bellarmine Chapel Minister, where he presided over the 4:00 p.m. daily Mass, and as a longtime member of the Jesuit community. The university said in a statement online that he earned both his bachelor's degree and master's degree at Xavier. He was ordained in 1956 and began working full-time at Xavier in 1998. 'He was so popular with students that in 2003, a group of 130 alumni from 1969-1974 created a scholarship fund in his honor and surprised him with it on his 75th birthday,' the university said.
