Virat Kohli's Comment Goes Viral Post Vrindavan Trip With Anushka: 'Do I Look Pooja-Path Types?'

Virat Kohli's old 'Do I look pooja-path types?' quip resurfaces as he visits Vrindavan with Anushka Sharma after Test retirement.
Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma recently made a serene trip to Vrindavan, just a day after the former India captain announced his retirement from Test cricket. The couple visited spiritual guru Premanand Ji Maharaj in a moment that many fans interpreted as symbolic.
Amid this visit, a throwback of Kohli's humorous 2016 quote, 'Do I look the pooja-path types?", has resurfaced online and is gaining traction once again. The comment, originally made at a T20 World Cup press conference, was in response to a light-hearted question from a journalist about whether he resorted to prayer during high-pressure moments.
The viral moment is especially striking now, as Kohli has become increasingly vocal about his spiritual practices in recent years. He, along with Anushka, has made several spiritual visits across the country from Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Temple to Neem Karoli Baba's ashram in Uttarakhand.
In the video shared by ANI from Vrindavan, the duo is seen arriving in a local taxi, dressed modestly and wearing face masks, clearly attempting to keep a low profile. While at Premanand Ji Maharaj's ashram, Kohli was also spotted holding a digital Japa counter, a device used for mantra chanting.
The contrast between Kohli's earlier public persona and his present self has not gone unnoticed. In that same 2016 press conference, Kohli had acknowledged his growth: 'When I started, a lot about me was wrong… I was the tattoo guy, the one who wore stylish clothes… I make sure I do all the hard work and hope it pays off one day."
Anushka too, has often addressed their low-key approach to fame. In an earlier interview with Anupama Chopra, she said, 'We are very awkward with the fame we have. We don't embrace the fame and the stardom."

All you need to know about Allu Arjun's arrest in 2024 On December 4, 2024, a stampede at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre resulted in the death of 39-year-old Revathi and left her son, Sri Teja, critically injured. Authorities attributed the tragedy to an uncontrolled rush of fans attempting to enter the venue to catch a glimpse of actor Allu Arjun. Police reported that they were not informed in advance about the attendance of the Pushpa 2 team, leading to a lack of proper crowd control measures. Following the incident, Allu Arjun, his security team, and the Sandhya Theatre management were charged under Sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and voluntarily causing hurt. All parties were arrested on December 13. The actor spent one night in custody before being granted regular bail by a Hyderabad court. As part of the bail conditions, the Nampally court required Allu Arjun to submit two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. He returned home to his wife and Sneha Reddy and kids the next morning. Few days later, on December 24, the actor held a press conference where he publicly reacted to the incident and spoke about the character assassination and humiliation he and his family had to face all throughout. He had further clarified the 'misinformation" that was being spread about him. Soon after, the matter was put to rest. First Published:

‘Unless the mind is sharp and decisive, the body falters': Ian Chappell on Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has had a poor 2024 in the red-ball format. While some of it has to be contributed to difficult surfaces that he has played both home and away, a few can be attributed to his weakness outside the off-stump, where he has managed to edge the ball around the fourth stump line more frequently and than ever before in his career. With the big England tour coming up, Kohli decided he will hang up his boots in the longer version of the game. Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell, in his column, wrote, 'Unless the mind is sharp and decisive, the body falters.' 'He accepted that, at the highest level, unless the mind is sharp and decisive, the body falters. When doubt begins to settle in the bones, it disrupts decision-making, impairs footwork, and erodes the spontaneity essential to elite performance. Kohli's retirement is a reminder that form is more a function of the mind than it is of mechanics,' wrote Chappell in his column on ESPNCricinfo. 'When instinct gives way to hesitation, and confidence turns into caution, it becomes clear that the first place to look is inward. This struggle has been well documented across generations. From Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting to Virat Kohli, Steven Smith and Joe Root, the most revered names in the game have grappled with the invisible weight of expectation and the creeping sense of decline,' he further wrote. 'And yet, many of them have risen again – reminding us that while bodies age, the mind can be retrained, refocused and revived. The path back for older players is rarely through exhaustive technical reconstruction. Rather, it comes from returning to a state of mental clarity, rekindling the thinking of their younger days,' he observed. 'This doesn't mean blind aggression or naive optimism. It means remembering why they succeeded in the first place: trust, intent, and simplicity. The older one gets, the more mental fatigue takes its toll. Years of pressure, expectation and performance drain the brain's ability to focus sharply. 'Add the physical toll and it becomes easy to fall into a cautious, survival-first mindset. That's the trap. The greats who reinvent themselves – like Tendulkar in his second wind, or Sunil Gavaskar in his final flourish – are those who find a way to override the noise,' he concluded.

‘If he was asked by captain, selectors….' Former Aussie skipper believes Virat Kohli can come out of Test retirement

It has not been a month since Virat Kohli announced his Test retirement. Earlier this week, the 36-year-old Indian batsman had termed winning the IPL title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru still 'five levels under Test cricket', and former Australian captain Michael Clarke believes Kohli will come out of Test retirement if the Shubman Gill led Indian team gets beaten badly in the upcoming England Five Test series. 'I believe this. If India go to England and get flogged, if they lose the series 5-0 for example, I think the fans will want Virat Kohli to come out of retirement and play Test cricket again. And I honestly, I think if he was asked by the captain, selectors and supported by fans, if they get beaten big time in England, I think he'll come. He still loves Test cricket. I think his words, I think those words, like you could hear his passion for Test cricket is real,' Clarke told Beyond23 Cricket podcast on Friday. While Shubman Gill was appointed as the Test captain last month, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had announced their Test retirements weeks prior to the team announcement. Kohli finished his career with 9,230 runs in 123 Test matches, Sharma played in 67 Tests amassing 4,301 runs. Kohli had scored 657 runs in this year's IPL winning the title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and was the third highest scorer in IPL this year. Clarke sees Kohli in fine form but also reiterated that the Shubman Gill led Indian Test team can beat England in the five match Test series. 'He (Virat) sees it as the pinnacle and he's still playing good enough cricket. He definitely made the decision to retire and whatever his reasons are, everybody comes to that time in their career. If that's the case, then so be it. But if they don't perform, if they get beaten, like I say, 5-0 in England, which I don't think they will. I think they can still win in England, even without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I think this Indian squad is a good squad.' added Clarke. Post winning the IPL, Kohli had shared how he sees winning the IPL title being five levels under Test cricket. 'This moment (the IPL win) is right up there with the best moments I've had in my career, but it's still marks five levels under Test cricket. That's how much I value Test cricket. That's how much I love Test cricket. I would just urge youngsters coming through to treat that format with respect. If you perform in Test cricket, you walk around anywhere in the world, people look you in the eye, shake your hand and say 'Well done, you played the game really well. If you want to earn respect in world cricket all over, take up Test cricket, give your heart and soul to it and earn the respect from legends,' Kohli had told Star Sports post the win.
