While backup Jake Maier picked up a 37-18 victory against the B.C. Lions to improve Saskatchewan's record to 4-0 in Week 4, Harris will be back under centre this week as the Roughriders get set to host the Calgary Stampeders (3-1) on Friday night (7 p.m., TSN) at Mosaic Stadium in Week 6 of the CFL season.

'I felt like my bye week was last week,' said Harris. 'I'm excited to be back out here.'

After Harris suffered a head injury in Saskatchewan's Week 3 victory over the Toronto Argonauts on June 20, the quarterback entered concussion protocol after the game and wasn't cleared in time to play the Roughriders' Week 4 contest against the Lions on June 28.

However, that's not to say Harris didn't plead his case to play in the game against B.C.

'That's just Trev — he's going to try to make his case no matter what the situation is for him,' Roughriders head coach Corey Mace said on Monday. 'He's the ultimate competitor. He feels like he can go but we just kind of followed the guidelines for ourselves and just wanted to play it smart.

'And I'm happy we did. We've got a lot of faith in that quarterback room, and we felt confident that we'd be able to go out and still execute at a high level. And now that he's been completely cleared … I think it was just the right decision.

'You don't want to play with that one. Every team has a protocol to follow and we just made sure we did it the right way.'

'I was fine,' Harris told reporters. 'Let's not probably go down that road.

'A little bit of a shouting match but always trust what the doctors are saying.

'They're looking out for our best interest and at the end of the day, we've only got one brain, and we're all going to be 55 and 60 someday. And I've got four kids and although I told them I was ready to go and ready to play, they took matters in their own hands just based off of what they thought and what they gathered.

'But we're back. We're good.'

After Argonauts defensive back Kenneth George Jr. was forced to leave the game following a cut block by Roughriders' receiver Dhel Duncan-Busby, Toronto defensive lineman Jordan Williams threw a high hit on Harris on the very next play.

Belgium secures win over Canada with 25-18 in rugby test match

Moral victories usually don't sit well with competitive players on losing teams, but Canada's men's rugby team accepted a 25-18 test loss to Belgium with an air of optimism on Saturday. Canada, which led 13-12 at halftime at Clarke Stadium, was undone by a clinical Belgian counterattack and some self-inflicted miscues at crucial times. Still, the squad felt good about its first showing under new head coach Stephen Meehan. Wing Josiah Morra, hooker Andrew Quattrin and replacement Siôn Parry crossed the try line for the Canadians, who fielded a youthful squad that included test debuts for fullback Brenden Black and substitute Kyle Tremblay. Halifax's Cooper Coats added a first-half penalty. Belgium — ranked one spot above Canada at No. 23 in the World Rugby Rankings heading into the match — made the most of limited opportunities, scoring three tries and adding a pair of late penalty goals from Hugo de Francq to keep the hosts at arm's length. 'It was a first run-out with the new setup we're running, and it's really exciting,' said second row Piers Von Dadelszen, who earned Teck Player of the Match honours. 'There's a lot we can take away from this — a few passes not sticking, and Belgium were awesome on the counterattack — but that's how we want to play. We're trying to bring a more exciting brand of rugby to Canadian fans, and we're looking forward to it all coming together going forward.' Canada opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a penalty-kick from Coats, before Belgium responded with a converted try from centre Florian Remue, set up by a line-breaking run from his brother Matias. A clever chip from Coats over the top led to Morra's first test try in the 22nd minute, but Belgium struck back three minutes later with a try of their own. Quattrin's try from a rolling maul just past the half-hour mark gave Canada a narrow 13-12 lead at the half, but the second half saw momentum swing repeatedly. A yellow card to Belgium's Remue appeared to give Canada the edge, but the visitors capitalized even while down a man, with Soenen finishing off a cross-field kick following an interception to restore their advantage. A pair of second-half penalties allowed Belgium to extend their lead, while Canada continued to press, eventually breaking through in the final play through Parry and ending the match with Canada's third and final try. Captain Lucas Rumball acknowledged the disappointment post-match but struck a note of optimism. 'We're pretty gutted,' said Rumball. 'We created some opportunities, but credit to Belgium — when we made mistakes, they capitalized. There's a lot of potential here. We just have to get things right and keep building. Thanks to the fans here in Edmonton for coming out and supporting us.' Saturday's match marked Belgium's first-ever victory over Canada in four test meetings and their first time scoring points against the Canadians since 2021. Canada will complete its two-match home series at Edmonton's Clarke Stadium with a clash against Spain on Friday, July 18.

Last minute TD pass secures Tiger-Cats 23-20 win over Redblacks

Bo Levi Mitchell's three-yard TD pass to Kenny Lawler with 1:54 remaining rallied the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a 23-20 win over the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday night. Mitchell's second scoring strike to Lawler capped a smart 50-yard, six-play drive. But Hamilton (3-2) caught a break when Ottawa's Michael Wakefield was called for roughing the passer on a Mitchell second-down incompletion that kept the march alive. Ottawa (1-5) had one final possession at its 19-yard line with 1:51 remaining, but the Redblacks turned the ball over on downs at their 39-yard line with 1:13 remaining, delighting the Hamilton Stadium gathering of 22,913. Hamilton was able to run out the clock for a third straight win and move into a tie with idle Montreal (3-2) atop the East Division. Ottawa has dropped three straight. Hamilton had a glorious chance to take the lead on Mack Bannatyne's recovery of Kalil Pembelton's fumble of Nic Constantinou's 57-yard punt at Ottawa's 15-yard line. But the Ticats drove to the Redblacks four-yard line before turning the ball over on downs with 5:12 to play. Ottawa appeared to go ahead 27-13 on Pimpleton's 105-yard punt-return TD at 1:53. But it was negated by an illegal block penalty, the Redblacks' first of the game following an unsuccessful challenge. Ottawa started at its 15-yard line, and Dru Brown's pass was intercepted by Jamal Peters, his second pick of the game. That gave Hamilton possession at the Redblacks' 43-yard line, setting up Marc Liegghio's 38-yard field goal at 4:23 that pulled the Ticats to within 20-16. Liegghio kicked three field goals and a convert while Nic Constantinou added a single for Hamilton. Keelan White and William Stanback had Ottawa's touchdowns. Lewis Ward booted the converts and two field goals. Stanback ended the third with a 23-yard TD run that put Ottawa ahead 20-13. Ward gave the Redblacks a 13-10 advantage with a 14-yard field goal at 9:46. But Liegghio tied it with a 41-yard kick at 12:54. Mitchell's 44-yard TD strike to Lawler at 2:38 made it 10-10 as Liegghio missed the convert. It followed Ward's 41-yard field goal at 1:08. Brown's 10-yard TD pass to White, the third pick of the '25 CFL draft, in the first quarter staked Ottawa to its 7-4 halftime lead. The seven-play, 70-yard march accounted for almost half of the Redblacks' 142 net offensive yards. Ottawa threatened to go ahead 10-4 but Ward missed from 48 yards out with under three minutes to play. Hamilton mustered 165 net yards, but could only manage a field goal and single. The Ticats also took all seven penalties called in the half for 71 yards as both teams had six total possessions. Brown completed 13-of-19 passes for 137 yards. Mitchell was 13-of-22 passing for 128 yards as Isaiah Wooden Sr.'s 47-yard punt return was the opening half's biggest play. Constantinou's 51-yard punt at 3:16 of the second quarter cut Ottawa's lead to 7-1. Liegghio pulled Hamilton to within 7-4 with a 16-yard field goal at 8:59. Redblacks: Host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday, July 20. Tiger-Cats: Visit the Ottawa Redblacks on Sunday, July 20.
