The blatant contempt Celtic are held in by jealous rivals will rob a man of his rightful prize
Hearts have come out swinging at officials over their Scottish Cup semi final defeat to Aberdeen.
Tynecastle chiefs want answers from the SFA after ref John Beaton sent off Michael Steinwender and Cammy Devlin - before adding a third after the full time whistle as he flashed red at assistant boss Mike Garrity. Hotline callers, however, have already made up their minds on the matter.
Willie Mercer, Dumfries, said: 'Once again the outcome of a cup game at Hampden has been influenced by the inept performance of the match officials. The first red card for Hearts is debatable on the basis that there was a defender capable of covering. The second booking for Devlin was a disgrace, he had his eyes fully on the ball and the Aberdeen player nicks in just as he goes to play it, making the contact accidental. Too often now games have been won and lost through the ineptitude of our referees and I have no doubt that Beaton and his match officials done Hearts out of a place in the final.'
But Ian Urquhart isn't impressed with the Jambos' claims.. He emailed: 'All season we have had to listen to what Hearts were going to do this season, first it was split the Old Firm, then get third, then top six and win the Scottish Cup. Now it's the referee's fault for cheating. What a lot of nonsense that lot talk, the sooner they realise they are an average team in the bottom half of the league for a reason the better. At this stage they still could be in a relegation scrap. Third team in Scotland? They're not even the third biggest in Edinburgh.'
And Hibee Neil Renton, Leith, couldn't resist chipping in. He said: 'I had to check that it wasn't the first of April when I read Hearts'l statement. Maybe they should print out loads of the statement and use it to paper over the cracks at Tynie. The Gorgie mob are in free fall and they're at fault - not officials.'
Celtic cantered into the final with a 5-0 win over St Johnstone and Brendan Rodgers now stands on the brink of a historic third domestic treble as boss. Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: 'There is only one choice for manager of the year. Brendan Rodgers has re-established Celtic as Scotland's top European club and the only one competing at the top level. He's also made us the world's most successful football club and if he completes the Treble will make this our greatest season since Lisbon. Case closed.'
But Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, argued: 'Celtic fans are being disrespectful to Aberdeen as the Scottish Cup is still to play for. Brendan Rodgers claiming a historic treble? They should wait and not count their chickens before they hatch.' Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: 'That was a five star performance against a side that have had a fantastic Scottish Cup record in recent years. Even with Maeda playing out wide when I believe his best position is centre forward he still weighed in with two goals. However, despite his goal, Adam Idah still flatters to deceive and if Kyogo is open to a move back next season Rodgers should prioritise this.'
Scott McAdam, Glasgow, took aim at regular caller Alan Flett when he said: 'What a performance from the champions, no doubt we will be told we are playing no one by Alan Flett and few others. But it will be great to see title number 55 done and a cup final to look forward to. Over at Ibrox I hear they are leaving a phone box for the fans to get in so they can enjoy all the dead rubbers they have left.'
And Stephen McDonald emailed: 'So Rangers have ended the season with no trophies again, everyone knew this at start of the season except Rangers fans. The simple fact is that the next Old Firm is a dead rubber. For Celtic our only priority left this season is the Scottish Cup and it has been for a while.'

Arsenal deal for Viktor Gyokeres at risk as Sporting issue threat
Arsenal's deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres could be at risk as Sporting CP have threatened to increase the striker's asking price. Earlier this week, Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, hit out at Gyokeres' agent over suggestions that a transfer fee had already been agreed ahead of the summer transfer window. Gyokeres has a €100 million (£85.1m) release clause in his contract but Sporting have been willing to sell the Sweden international for lower than that amount. Varandas was angered by claims that Sporting have agreed to sell Gyokeres for €60m (£51m) plus a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons and warned the striker's representative, Hasan Cetinkaya, that he is 'making the situation worse'. During his negotiations to bring Gyokeres to Sporting in a £20m deal from Coventry City two years ago, Cetinkaya secured an exclusive sales mandate which means that the Portuguese champions will have to pay the agent 10 per cent of the value of any rejected offer above €60m (£51m). Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. It is understood that if Cetinkaya decides to activate that mandate this summer, Sporting will respond by demanding that Gyokeres' €100m (£85.1m) release clause is paid in full. Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, met with his counterpart at Sporting, Bernardo Palmeiro, in Menorca to discuss a deal for Gyokeres this week. Arsenal's initial proposal worth an €55m (£46.8m) plus a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons was rejected but an improved offer is expected. Sporting are believed to be holding out for a deal worth closer to €80m (£68.1m) including add-ons. More Trending Reports in Portugal on Thursday claimed that there is a 'growing optimism' in Gyokeres' camp that a deal can be agreed between Arsenal and Sporting. Manchester United also remain in the race to sign Gyokeres and are hoping his strong relationship with Ruben Amorim can overcome the striker's reservations about the lack of European football at Old Trafford next season. United have indicated to Sporting that they are willing to pay €60m (£51.1m) up front, plus a further €10m (£8.5m) in performance-related bonuses. Gyokeres, who finished the season with 54 goals in 52 games and helped Sporting win the domestic double in Portugal, issued a cryptic message on Instagram on Thursday which read: 'There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The latest on Celtic's winger hunt amid 'number of targets'
The Parkhead club are 'expected' to sign versatile attacking midfielder Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjaelland, although it doesn't look like they will stop there. Indeed, Sky Sports claims that Celtic are on the hunt for a winger this summer, and that they have 'made contact' for a number of targets, including Sondre Orjasaeter of Sarpsborg and Royal Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha. Read more: The latter ended an injury-ravaged 2024/25 campaign by contributing to seven goals in 11 games. Balikwisha was linked with a move to Parkehad last summer, while Orjasaeter was said to be the subject of a £4.6 million bid from Celtic in January. He previously addressed his failed move: "I struggled to sleep," revealed Orjasaeter. "I didn't know if I was going to be in Norway or not. I could have moved at any moment. I had to carry my passport with me everywhere. "When the window closed, I felt a sense of relief. I came to the conclusion that I was determined to stay in Sarpsborg and play here, because I didn't know if I was ready to leave yet. "Going abroad now is another level up. It had become more professional and everything. There were many thoughts going through my head during that period. "If I get a little more time in Sarpsborg, I think I'll mature and be ready for it eventually. "Of course, you will have a better life after your career if you have more money in your account, but you only live once. For me, it is just as important to have fun along the way. It is probably even more important "I have a lot of friends to keep me grounded. I think if I only had football, my head would explode! "I'm not much of a fan of football, but I love having it as a job. I couldn't have a better job than what I have. "But when I see that my friends are going on holiday or to ski at Easter, I get jealous. I'm not going to lie. "I hope that those clubs understand that not everyone can be the same. At the same time, I have my serious side too. And I think that kind of thing comes a little with age."
