The mother of a man arrested in Thailand on drugs charges has issued a warning to people travelling to the country. Jamie Louis Swain was stopped by immigration officers at Phuket Internation Airport last year after a bag of cocaine was found in his passport. Jamie, then 29, from Stevenage, planned a trip to Thailand with his brother last May but it became a nightmare, his mum Michelle Swain said. When the brothers landed at Phuket she said Jamie was pulled aside when an immigration officer noticed a small plastic bag with white powder in his passport.
Officers claimed Jamie began to swear and shake and they made further checks. He was arrested after officials scanned his luggage and tested the substance found in his passport and confirmed it was 0.42 grams of cocaine. Jamie is now said to be facing up to 20 years in jail under Thailand's Narcotics Act, but after a court hearing in July last year he was deported back to the UK.

Jamie avoided incareration but was ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 baht (£1,137). Now Michelle, 57, says her family went through hell when they had a phone call from her son saying he arrived at Phuket island for his much looked forward to holiday only to be arrested at immigration, the Mirror reports.

Speaking to MailOnline, Ms Swain claimed her son was 'set up'. She said: "People say it's because I'm his mum I don't believe it, but to get through two airports and the fact it's happened to other people, I just feel that it was a set up.
"I can't help that, I know I'm his mum, and I'm not silly I know they're all doing this and it all goes on, I'm not naive I've got three boys. But I just feel like to get through two airports and then suddenly this bag appears, and he'd had his passport out all that time, I just find it very strange."

She said Jamie was kept in a 'holding cell' for around two days before being released on bail. She flew out to Phuket on the same night he was detained, and said the "awful" situation left her anxious that's he'd be locked up in a foreign jail.
The mother-of-three said: "He said there was no water, no food, nothing. He was in there about two days then he got bail. It wasn't a high bail amount. He then had to stay there [in Phuket] for three months at least, they wouldn't let him go. He had a court date at the end of July and he got fined. "
Ms Swain said her son was eventually got deported and flew home at the beginning of August. She was initially warned by solicitors he could face up to a year behind bars, but he was released on bail for the equivalent of £250, and was fined just over £1,000.

Ms Swain had this warning for others heading to Thailand. She said while the country and the people are 'beautiful' and 'friendly', travellers 'should be careful'. She said: 'It was just meant to be a nice holiday. It could happen to any young boys going out there. There's nothing you can do, you can be careful, but if that happens there's nothing you can do about it."
She added: "It is frightening for the youngsters, it's happening all the time out there. It was just an awful experience, I wouldn't want to put anyone ever through that. I would never wish it on anyone. The worry alone was terrible. It's a shame he had to go through that really, it can ruin people's lives. I don't think they see the damage it can do to young boys' lives."

I'm the famous Peru Two drug mule – this is my warning to Brit tourists… and how gangs know EXACTLY who to target

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PERU Two drug mule Michaella McCollum has warned Brit tourists about how trafficking gangs lure young girls into their criminal operations. The infamous drug trafficker served three years behind bars in 2013 alongside Melissa Reid after they were handpicked to smuggle £1.5million worth cocaine into Peru. 8 Peru Two drug mule Michaella McCollum has warned Brit tourists about how trafficking gangs lure young girls into their criminal operations Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 8 Brit Bella May Culley was arrested in Tbilisi airport, Georgia, with a suitcase packed with drugs Credit: Facebook 8 Charlotte May Lee, 21, former TUI flight attendant from Coulsdon, was allegedly recruited to smuggle drugs into Sri Lanka Credit: Shutterstock Editorial Since being freed from a hellhole jail in Lima, McCollum transformed her life and is now a mum and public speaker. Part of her work includes exposing how foreign drug operations try and recruit British mules. The 31-year-old appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning to speak on the increasing danger of Brits being preyed upon abroad. It comes after a spate of young women being arrested on trafficking charges including Bella May Culley, 18, and Charlotte May Lee, 21. McCollum told Susanna Reid that people are often picked by drug chiefs specifically due to how vulnerable they appear. She explained: "That's what they do these organisations, they have people that are pickers and their job is to pick people to become mules. "They'll target vulnerabilities which might be age because at 19 or 20 you're incredibly naive, you're easy to manipulate. "Then women as well as obviously women tend to be groomed and coerced in situations a lot more. "Then whether you have a drug addiction as that could also be a vulnerability." McCollum was aged 19 at the time of her first being recruited with her Peru Two partner Reid being only 20. Charlotte May Lee fears being locked away for 20yrs over £1.2m Sri Lanka drugs bust – & is 'aware' of Bella Culley case She has also been open about her drug habits around the time of her arrest as she believes this contributed to her recruitment. Bella Culley - the teen arrested in Georgia last month - was seen smoking in videos shared to her social media in the weeks before she was stopped at the border and detained. Michaella also revealed that the drug kingpins ordering young women to become traffickers are masters at manipulation. She says that when she was first coerced into taking a suitcase of cocaine across the border her bosses convinced her that everything would be okay. Michaella was made to feel like a "little girl" when she questioned the dangers of smuggling, she said. Her concerns were always met with simple solutions, she added. She recalled once asking about how they would get the drugs through the airport before being told the airport staff is in cahoots with the operations being carried out and allow them. By the time she realised the answers were a lie, Michaelle said she was already in handcuffs. 8 Michaella McCollum entering the Sarita Colonia jail with a police escort in October, 2013 Credit: EPA 8 McCollum told Susanna Reid that people are often picked by drug chiefs specifically due to how vulnerable they appear Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 8 Michaella McCollum is now a mum-of-two and author Credit: Instagram/@Michaella_McCollum She continued: "You have to understand that the level of manipulation that goes on behind it as it's not just overnight, it can be weeks of manipulation. "They ended up making me believe that this was totally fine. I was being dramatic, I was being naive to question it. "So I was so scared to say no and men know they can manipulate women to do things and I was so scared to just say no." Both Peru Two mules became friends when holidaying in Ibiza in August 2013 and were soon coerced into cocaine trafficking. But in October, they were arrested as they stepped off a lane in Lima, Peru. McCollum and Reid were convicted of drug smuggling and sentenced to six years and eight months in a dismal Ancon 2 prison. At the time, the pair's horror trip led them to becoming household names as they both admitted to being used by the gangs. In recent weeks, a string of British women have faced similar worrying experiences after being recruited by foreign gangs. A couple claiming to be tourists from Thailand were busted with more than 33kg of cannabis in their suitcases at a Spanish airport in May. Why Brit backpackers are prime targets, Thai cop reveals By Patrick Harrington, Foreign News Reporter Police Lieutenant Colonel Arun Musikim, Deputy Inspector of the Surat Thani province police force, said: 'Cases involving British nationals smuggling cannabis have been around for a while. 'There is a lot of cannabis grown on Thailand's islands in the south because the climate is suitable and it is legal. A lot of gangs are attracted to this. 'There are now various smuggling methods that we have seen. Some carry it themselves, some hire backpackers, and some send it via mail. 'This year, there have been many cases we have intercepted. Most involve British and Malaysian nationals. 'It's easy for British citizens to travel as they can enter Thailand and return to the UK without needing a visa. 'Most of the smugglers are people hired to carry the cannabis, similar to how tourists might smuggle tax-free goods. 'They're usually unemployed individuals from the UK. The gangs offer them flights, pocket money and hotel stays, just to come and travel and take a bag back home with them. 'These people often have poor social standing at home and are looking for ways to earn quick money. They find them through friends or on social media. 'Many will go to festivals or parties while they are here, just like they are having a normal trip abroad. 'They are told that it is easy and they will not be caught. Then the amount the organisers can sell the cannabis for in the UK is much higher than it costs in Thailand. 'Police suspect that there are multiple employers and groups receiving the drugs on the other end. The cannabis then enters the UK market. 'We are being vigilant to ensure there are no routes out of the country.' A British OnlyFans model was also caught allegedly smuggling nearly £200,000 worth of Thai cannabis into Spain. But the two largest and most concerning cases covered Bella and Charlotte. Bella sparked a massive international search operation in early May after she was reported missing while holidaying in Thailand. However, it was later revealed that the teen, from Billingham, County Durham, had been arrested 4,000 miles away on drug offences in Georgia. She was allegedly carrying 30 pounds (14kg) of cannabis into the ex-Soviet nation. Around the same time, 21-year-old Charlotte Lee May, from Coulsdon, south London, was also arrested in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo after police discovered 46 kg of 'Kush' - a synthetic strain of cannabis - in her suitcase. The former flight attendant is now facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted. 8 Bella pictured in court in Tbilisi after she was detained at a Georgian airport Credit: East2West

Devil-worshipping dad carved up stepmum and ate her flesh while daughter slept

WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT. Jamie-Lee Arrow, the daughter of 'Skara Cannibal' Isakin Drabbad, has opened up about her stepmother Helle Christensen's final chilling message before she was butchered in her own home A woman has opened up about the "misery" of growing up with her cannibal father, who committed one of the most atrocious murders in Swedish history. In November 2010, Isakin Drabbad, now 46, slaughtered his girlfriend Helle Christensen by slitting her throat. He then decapitated her and cut away pieces of flesh from her limbs, which he cooked in salt and cannabis leaves before devouring them. ‌ Helle was just 40 years old when she met her horrific end at the hands of her partner, who remains known as the notorious "Skara Cannibal". Drabbad later confessed to the brutal murder and was remanded to a psychiatric hospital following his 2011 conviction. ‌ The crime continues to haunt the historic city of Skara, Sweden, and, for Drabbad's daughter Jamie-Lee Arrow, memories of life with her Satan-obsessed father remain all too vivid. In a new interview with The Sun, Jamie-Lee, who was just nine years old at the time of her stepmother's murder, recalled how Drabbad and Helle had been embroiled in a fierce 24-hour fight beforehand. Sharing her beloved stepmother's final words to her over a fraught family dinner, Jamie-Lee told the publication: '[She said]: 'Enjoy your meal because this is the last time I will cook for you... because Isakin is going to kill me'." It was Jamie Lee's mother who broke the devastating news, and she remembers them both "crying and screaming" as they grappled to come to terms with what had happened. As shared by Jamie Lee, her parents split up when she was still a toddler, and so she split her time between her mum's and dad's separate homes. Entering her dad's apartment, which contained pictures of Friday the 13th and Freddy Krueger, felt "like walking into a horror movie". ‌ Drabbad had a dark obsession with the occult and even tried to get his own daughter involved. Jamie-Lee remembered: 'He often talked about the devil, demons and evil spirits, and when I was little, he liked to introduce me to the other side. 'We would lay in the dark on the bed and he would go, 'Do you see the faces on the wall, can you see them?' Then he would say it so much I would actually start seeing them.' ‌ He would gift her sinister presents, including a satanic bible, and even a Voodoo Doll when she complained about being bullied. Helle's death left Jamie-Lee completely traumatised. She began drinking at an early age and dropped out of school at 15, unable to pursue her childhood dreams of becoming a doctor. Thankfully, at 23, mum-of-two Jamie-Lee has managed to turn her life around, and is now looking forward to marrying her partner of five years. A public speaker and author, Jamie-Lee now inspires others to find a more positive path after enduring serious challenges. Sharing her philosophy on life, Jamie-Lee continued: 'Just because your childhood sucked doesn't mean your entire life has to. We have the power over our own lives and we can create something beautiful even if we came from something ugly.' ‌ In a recent two-hour episode of Evil Lives Here: The Killer Speaks, which aired back in April, a tearful Jamie-Lee was seen bravely confronting her father, telling him: "Do you know how much you have to love someone to still want to see the person who is scaring you to death?" Drabbad replied: "I think it's extremely difficult to have me in your life. You can only see heaven from hell ... I look at you from hell. And I'm sorry." ‌ Detailing her motivation for wanting to be on the show at the time the episode aired, Jamie-Lee told People: "I want people to understand the darkness I came from and that I actually managed to get myself out from under it. I still struggle with feeling like I am my own person and that my dad has got nothing to do with who I am.' Drabbad has now been released from the mental institution, but remains under its supervision. He now hopes for full freedom.

Top holiday resort approves huge fines for public sex and nudity in major crackdown on badly-behaved Brit tourists

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A TOP holiday resort has approved huge fines for public sex and nudity in a major crackdown on badly-behaved Brit tourists. The Algarve party resort of Albufeira has gone to war against boozy tourists and slapped new rules to curb alcohol-fueled debauchery. Hefty fines will now be imposed for everything from urinating in the street to getting naked. The rules will kick in within weeks, in time for the summer season, aiming to curb anti-social behaviour. And locals hope they will turn the tide, with nakedness, vomiting in the street and having sex in public all now coming at a heavy price. Badly behaved tourists who go starkers in public, or get caught bonking or simulating sex, face paying anything from £1,685 to £3,375. Spitting or urinating in the street will be punished with fines of between £125 and £630. And entering bars and other businesses topless could lead to a £1,250 levy. Bars and cafes which let customers in without the proper dress code will also be fined. Brit tourists were first warned about the new get-tough rules in February when Albufeira's mayor Jose Carlos Rolo announced the "Code of Conduct" plans. Last summer, a group of partying Brit tourists put on a shocking display of public nudity, leaving the locals fuming. 'Can't believe it' cry locals as 'tourist' filmed cycling NAKED through Lanzarote amid anti-visitor fury plaguing Spain Footage of their drunken antics, showing them starkers on their knees in a line on top of a bar counter, went viral. Rolo called the display 'deeply negative' and said he would call for police reinforcements. He said last night: "Tourists who fall down drunk aren't needed here at all." Predictably, Albufeira is fast becoming the go-to spot for young revellers looking for a boozy break. During The Sun's investigation into tourist revelry in the town, we saw how cops and medics are already patrolling the mile-long strip — nicknamed 'The Chaos' by locals — to keep a firm eye on the crazy, drunken antics of holidaymakers. Little wonder some end up in a terrible state, as girls are plied with free drinks at many pubs in a bid to lure in paying lads, while every bar offers shots from £1.70. Local taxi driver Guilherme, 25, told The Sun: 'Stay here more than one night and you'll see tourists having sex in the street. Sometimes it's groups of naked men on balconies. It's shocking.' Furious locals decided to bring in the new code of conduct after a group of British louts got naked on a bar top and proceeded to crawl around in broad daylight last year. 9 Tourists throw up on the streets Credit: Olivia West 9 Couple caught getting frisky at the roadside Credit: Olivia West 9 Tourists lying on pavement Credit: Olivia West 9 Topless youths clamber clumsily up a stone wall Credit: Olivia West It comes as a 21-year-old Brit was found dead at the foot of a set of steps in Albufeira's old town last Wednesday. Cops are said to believe booze is behind the tragedy. The news, which emerged on Saturday, came days after reveller Greg Monks, 38, from Glasgow, was found dead in a ravine near Albufeira. He was there on a stag do and had left the party early to return to his hotel when it is thought he jumped over a wall while drunk, unaware there was a steep drop on the other side. He was missing for a week. The fatalities shine an unwelcome light on the more dangerous and seedier side of the Algarve resort. Once marketed as a family-friendly getaway, now a much younger crew of holidaymakers is descending on the cobbled streets, turning it into a nocturnal party town.
